Barcarolle: From the Tales of Hoffman (Offenbach) 1917 Duo-Art Performance! J. Kent Layton 2024-10-02 | This performance of "Barcarolle" from "The Tales of Hoffman", by Offenbach, was made on a fully-restored 1927 Knabe baby grand piano. I personally assisted in the restoration of this instrument, including the installation of the QRS digital player system. The original performance was made for Duo-Art in the spring of 1917, just five years after Titanic sank, and has been converted into a digital file that retains the original expression the pianist performed with in 1917. The collision takes place at 10:38 p.m. (EDT), and the sinking takes place at 1:18 a.m. (EDT). But how does the evidence lead us to these times as being the precise times that Titanic struck the berg and sank, and for all of the events in the two hours and forty minutes between? How did Titanic's shipboard time equate to time ashore that night? Find out in this brief documentary based on our work in the books "On a Sea of Glass: The Life & Loss of the RMS Titanic", "Titanic: Solving the Mysteries", and "Recreating Titanic and Her Sisters: A Visual History".
