Blaze Animates CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF OUR FAVOURITE PURPLE BOY

Funnily enough, last year when this MAP opened for the first time, Reignited had not been announced. But now that Reignited is just around the corner there wasn't only Spyro's birthday to celebrate, but his triumphant return as well!

Spyro is a series that I hold very close to my heart. Thanks to the classic trilogy I was first inspired to draw the characters from the games, and thanks to the Legend trilogy I was inspired to start writing dramatic stories and take my art more seriously. It is all thanks to this series that I am the person you know today.

I am sure that a lot of you watching this will also have a similar story. I know so many people who also loved Spyro and his many adventures and grew up with his games as I did. And I hope with the release of Reignited that many more young people who might have missed the glory days of the purple boi will get a chance to experience just how wonderful his adventures were.

I would like to take a moment to thank every single animator in this project. They all contributed their time voluntarily and did an absolutely gorgeous job. I cannot thank them enough, I love them all so much!

I would also like to give a massive shoutout to Toys For Bob, who are developing the Spyro Reignited Trilogy! Thank you so much for bringing our favourite purple boy back to life and reigniting our childhoods!

Funnily enough, last year when this MAP opened for the first time, Reignited had not been announced. But now that Reignited is just around the corner there wasn't only Spyro's birthday to celebrate, but his triumphant return as well!

Spyro is a series that I hold very close to my heart. Thanks to the classic trilogy I was first inspired to draw the characters from the games, and thanks to the Legend trilogy I was inspired to start writing dramatic stories and take my art more seriously. It is all thanks to this series that I am the person you know today.

I am sure that a lot of you watching this will also have a similar story. I know so many people who also loved Spyro and his many adventures and grew up with his games as I did. And I hope with the release of Reignited that many more young people who might have missed the glory days of the purple boi will get a chance to experience just how wonderful his adventures were.

I just felt such an overwhelming amount of nostalgia for this edgy boi that I wanted to go back and revisit my projects with him. For those of you who don't know, Boltstrike belongs to my good friend @Fizzypumpkin , and he was one of many characters in a long-running Warrior Cats RP site. For a time he was the main antagonist of a long-running plotline. It really was one of those "you had to be there" moments.

So yeah, remember The Legend of Spyro games? With their epic story, great characters and fascinating worldbuilding? Remember how excited we all were when the movie adaptation got announced in 2009 and then disappointment when it quietly got dropped? Well, we were all played for fools because the movie script got discovered by Lost Media archivists and it is AWFUL! So naturally my friends and I had to recreate the movie to understand the sheer scale of the bullet that we dodged.

Cynders Cute Sneeze [Spyro 4 Animatic]

Blaze Animates 2022-06-03 | A fun little project I've been chipping away at! I love the idea of a potential Spyro 4 (in the Reignited continuity) that introduces Cynder as a villain again. Catra from She Ra and the Princesses of Power is my headcanon voice for her so I thought it could be a fun exercise to make a wee animatic to show her off!

Spyro's design is based on Nicholas Kole's "Adult Spyro" costume, and Cynder's design is just my own interpretation of the character.

[Animated D&D Story] The Raw Chicken Incident

Blaze Animates 2022-03-03 | This moment has been a legendary inside joke with my Dungeons and Dragons party for years now so I felt like it needed to be immortalised in the form of art! Probably the fastest and most unusual way to antagonise a helpful shopkeeper.

Context: The party was asking around town for any clues about a series of disappearances when they stumble across a friendly goblin shopkeeper. My mic obviously picked up the sound of me taking a bite of a snack and the players heard and decided to go along with it.

This Is Wings of Fire - Part 31 (Sunstreak)

I'm genuinely so happy that my first Wings of Fire MAP part would end up being in this big celebratory MAP! Despite Sunstreak being a very minor (yet incredibly important) character I wanted to make sure this part kicked ass, so I experimented a lot with a big swooshy camera and nice gradients on his scales.

I used Peregrinecella's base as a reference on how to draw BeetleWings (and since Sunstreak I believe is the only BeetleWing in the entire MAP I think taking a few tiny liberties was ok)

✦Doomsday - Part 2✦ [+ Process]

Anyway, the context for this part is kind of spoiler-y and relates more to the reboot of The Fire and the Phoenix that I am planning. Here we have a slightly revamped Queen Raenis, and this takes place 15 years before the events of episode 1. Why is this dragon who hates fire breathing fire? You'll find out eventually!

The Fire and the Phoenix - Episode 3: The New Realm

BIG OOF FOR HOW LONG THIS TOOK! This episode saw me in my very busy final year of uni and my first two years of full time employment so yeah I was a pretty busy bee! I was also fraught with technical difficulties such as my laptop dying, my tablet dying, my will to live dying etc but I love this series with all my heart, and though I am 'sort of' cancelling the series I wanted to at least get this episode done since I love me some Raenis and idk I was just a fan of the script for this part.

Technically this was only half of the script for episode 3. I had the same problem with episode 2 being very long so I split it into two parts. The second half of this episode (or episode 4) would have followed Osyrion and the Pack in the Meadow Lands, and Ozzy coming to terms with her family's death. However, I am rebooting the series. I feel like I've finally reached the Alpha stage of that I eventually want this story to be, and I have a very solid idea of what I want Raenis and Onarius's backstories to be. So in the near future I will be planning a movie length one-off episode about Raenis and Onarius which will not quite follow the same continuity of this series, but will be close enough.

Anyway, thank you all so much for sticking with me through this series, and I hope you'll enjoy what the reboot has to offer!!!

Since 2015 I've been receiving a few comments remarking that Onarius, my character from The Fire and the Phoenix, looks remarkably similar to Malefor from The Legend of Spyro.
Since so many different people have made this observation, there clearly must be something there! So Onarius and Malefor team up to figure out what makes them so similar!
