Active Towns 2024-10-21 | In this ride-along series installment, I connect with longtime Active Towns fan Wouter Rademaker for an on-bike interview and cycle network tour of Almere's neighborhoods, communities, and parklands in the province of Flevoland. Shot during a beautiful summer afternoon on July 1, 2024, this video features and highlights the following Activity Assets and Active Towns themes:
- A welcoming pedestrian priority street and plaza at the central station
- New and old separated and protected cycle paths (Fietspaden) throughout the ride
- Shared space and streets, including several bicycle-priority streets (Fietsstraten)
- The empowering nature of safe and inviting cycle network infrastructure for everyone, all ages & abilities
- Active mobility access to nature, parks, and recreational facilities

ROTTERDAM: A cycle network tour and on-bike interview with city staff

FORT COLLINS: Town & Gown Cycle Network Tour (Influenced by Dutch Designs)

Active Towns 2024-09-20 | In this episode, I connect with Sara Dykman, author of the book Bicycling with Butterflies: My 10,201 Mile Journey Following the Monarch Migration, for a conversation about her work studying endangered species for the forest service in California, her epic cycling with butterflies journey, and what we all can do help Monarchs survive and thrive, including the planting of the milkweed plants they feed on, adopting a "no-mow" strategy until the various wildflowers including milkweed are done doing their thing, and riding our bikes more often for more of our daily trips as a way to help halt our runaway global warming catastrophe.

LONDON: Experience the Orford Road Mini-Holland Installation Ten Years Later

LONDON: Tour of Hackneys Historic Low Traffic Neighborhoods (LTNs)

Active Towns 2024-09-04 | In this ride-along series episode, you'll be treated to a fantastic on-bike interview and LTN tour with Garmon ap Garth, Coordinator of the Hackney Cycling Campaign. 25TH TOUR DE FAT: Experience the worlds coolest celebration of bikes & hear from the OG organizer

LONDON: My Ride from Olympic Park to Kings Cross Station (Not for the Faint of Heart)

Active Towns 2024-07-09 | Join me as I ride "across town" from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Community to the King's Cross Station to pick up my ticket to Edinburgh. Warning: Although there are a few comfortable, protected, and separated bike lanes during this ride, much of it was a harrowing experience to watch on video. I felt fine enough on the bike, but that is not good enough for all ages and abilities.

LONDON: The search for a Green Route to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from Walthamstow

Active Towns 2024-07-05 | In an attempt to minimize my exposure to motor vehicle traffic, I attempted to find a "green route" of pathways and trails through parks and along canals from Walthamstow to London's new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park mixed-use community development. The first half of the ride featured some pretty decent protected/separated bike lanes, leading to a series of mostly older canal side paths until I got to the Olympic Park complex. Clearly, I caught it on a very sleepy morning with hardly any people out and about, but it was still quite cool to see all the new housing going into the area.

UTRECHT: BikeFlip is a subscription service that keeps bikes out of the waste stream (Kids & Adults)

Active Towns 2024-07-03 | Utrecht, NL: BikeFlip, a startup that was originally visualized as a master's project at a university in Utrecht, is now turning donated and abandoned bikes into new rides for those in need and providing parents with an innovative subscription service solution to the problem of their kids outgrowing their bikes in short order. They are also working to refurbish bikes and get them to those who cannot afford a bike. This video features an interview with BikeFlip Operational Manager Jean-Luc Verhage. Also, there's a nice cameo by a longtime supporter of the Active Towns Channel, Cathy Tuttle, a volunteer mechanic at BikeFlip.

PARIS: See what happens on a school street on a weekend afternoon
