It's been just about 13 years since I made this video. Sorry for being an ass :) not just in the video, but in my reply to peoples' comments. I've opened up comments again. Go ahead and discuss all you want! I won't get in your way.
I apologize to all those I offended. I truly was being an ass. I'm keeping this video up for posterity, and because I still believe what I say in it about No Remorse. But this isn't the kind of channel I want to run now.

Known IRL as Josepth, he went by AngryKidJoe 17 years ago when he was posting all the tmie on the cdoom forums. Such a fan he was of the mod, he and I have maintained an online friendship ever since.
Joe has since gone on to become a prolific Twitch streamer. At one point being named a Ubisoft Star Player when his steam was exclusively dedicated to The Division. He has since branched out into other games and genres. When he isn't working on the railroad (literally), he can be seen streaming on Twitch Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.Classic Doom 3 Mod Fan Interviews - Cameron BashawSonic Clang2025-04-27 | Cameron found the music first, then discovered and played the Cdoom mod. We met in a forum for music producers, and he was already aware of my work when I first posted. We've been good friends ever since. I sat down with him to talk about his personal history with the Doom music and Cdoom mod.Classic Doom 3 Mod Team Interviews - Bryan HendersonSonic Clang2025-04-27 | Today I sat down with Bryan Henderson from the team who brought you the Classic Doom 3 mod (cdoom for short). Bryan was interviewed by Sonic Clang, also from the cdoom team, as part of the "Making of the Classic Doom 3 Mod" documentary.
Bryan's role on the team was to animate the intro/outro cinematics for the mod. Brought in late in the development, Bryan had from August until December 2005 to finish the animations. It's amazing what he was able to accomplish and learn in such a short time! Hats off to Bryan for his work.Classic Doom 3 Mod Team Interviews - Snoop Jedi 2nd InterviewSonic Clang2025-04-27 | ...Classic Doom 3 Mod Team Interviews - Snoop JediSonic Clang2023-12-23 | Today I sat down with SnoopJedi from the team who brought you the Classic Doom 3 mod (cdoom for short). SnoopJedi, known IRL as James Gerity, was interviewed by Sonic Clang, also from the cdoom team, as part of the "Making of the Classic Doom 3 Mod" documentary.
Please excuse the bad quality. This was the first interview I did for the documentary and we used Skype, which I quickly dumped for Riverside.fm. James was also accidentally using the wrong microphone, but his better one kicks in around the 30 minute mark.Classic Doom 3 Mod Team Interviews - Thumpmonk (Brian Gocher)Sonic Clang2023-08-22 | I sat down with Thumpmonk from the team who brought you the Classic Doom 3 mod (cdoom for short). Thumpmonk, known IRL as Brian Gocher, was interviewed by Sonic Clang, also from the cdoom team, as part of the "Making of the Classic Doom 3 Mod" documentary.
Brian Gocher re-recorded E1M9 and wrote the music for the intro cinematic. Brian and Sonic Clang have been friends ever since working on the mod, but this is the first time they talked via call or video call. GuyBrave, known IRL as Shane Trewartha, was interviewed by me, Sonic Clang, also from the cdoom team, as part of the "Making of the Classic Doom 3 Mod" documentary.
Shane was the texture artist on the team. His biggest contribution being the green armor texture that was used mainly in the intro/outro cinematics, but can also be seen on the bodies of fallen comrades throughout the mod. Shane talks about his long career in the gaming industry, which all started thanks to the cdoom mod!Classic Doom 3 Mod Team Interviews - GazzSonic Clang2023-08-19 | I sat down with Gazz from the team who brought you the Classic Doom 3 mod (cdoom for short). Gazz, known IRL as Gareth Ward was interviewed by me, Sonic Clang, also from the cdoom team, as part of the "Making of the Classic Doom 3 Mod" documentary.
Gazz was a part of the team from the beginning. He created the levels E1M4, E1M8, and E1M9. He also took on the role of team leader after project founder Kazahana needed to take a step back from the project to concentrate on his studies. Enjoy the conversation! The Making of Classic Doom 3 Mod - Full DocumentarySonic Clang2023-08-04 | This is the story of how the Doom 3 mod “Classic Doom 3” was made. Thank you to Ry Feiner for helping edit and narrate the video. Thank you to the guys on the team for agreeing to be interviewed and helping me out in so many other ways. This documentary took a year and a half to create from conception to finish. My script went through many iterations, and in the end, I hope I’ve done a proper job telling our story.
I tried tracking down every member of the team, but some of the screen names used back then were so obscure, and maybe they’ve moved on from using those names now and I just couldn’t find everyone. I found ShyRobbie over a year after this project started, and he had an 18 year old backup of the Cdoom developer forum on an old hard drive! He was able to restore it for me so I could verify parts of the story. Just incredible that he had that. I will be releasing the full interviews with each member in the near future.
It was pure chance that Gazz and I were able to meet while I was working on this documentary. We have family in England who live near where he lives. We had a trip planned for well over a year and the stars aligned just right for us to finally meet. It was such an incredible experience.

I found a plug-in called NES VST to emulate the old 8-bit sounds. After getting off to a strong start, I found myself struggling trying to figure out where to go with it. But I ultimately prevailed and the song told me what it needed. I just had to stop and listen.

It's been a long time since I worked on the Guardian Legend cover. I decided it was finally time to get back to it.
In this minisode, I re-record the lead guitars to give them a bit more feeling with more bends. It didn't take very long to so that, hence why I called this episode 8.5.
Episode 8 here: youtu.be/VAIADKnQDLQE1M4 Guitar - Lost Video!!!Sonic Clang2022-11-26 | In 2006, after releasing the music for the Doom 3 mod "Classic Doom 3", I intended to make videos of me playing the songs on guitar and drums so you all could see how they're played. I did E1M1 and the Classic Doom 3 Theme Song, but never completed more. Fast forward to the other day and I found a tape in a drawer in my basement. On it was a recording of me playing the guitars for E1M4! I didn't remember doing that, so I had to put it in to watch. I was entertained, so I figured I'd upload it for posterity.Quake E1M5 Speedrun 22:52Sonic Clang2021-05-21 | This is a speedrun I did of Quake E1M5 on 3/13/1997. I found the .dem file on an old 3.5" floppy disk. This was not my best run, but it's only one I miraculously still have. I eventually figured out how to do the final two rocket jumps with 6% health remaining, which left me with 1% health after dropping down to the exit.
Actual time of run measured in video editor is 21:22, even though the game showed 22.
I did this speedrun as part of a contest John Romero put on when he started Ion Storm back in 1997. My best run was sub 19 seconds. Unfortunately I don't have that one to show. Maybe John has it somewhere. Someone beat me by 1 second and I didn't win.
Little did we know, we were starting speed running. These kinds of runs turned into "Quake Done Quick", which turned into "Games Done Quick", which we all know as GDQ now.Blackbird by Paul McCartneySonic Clang2021-02-13 | Sonic Clang playing and singing Blackbird by Paul McCartney. It took months of planning, all leading up to the most chaotic and hectic day of my life as we executed all 150 shots in 12 hours, on just 2 hours of sleep. This is the making of the only music video I've ever made.
Today, August 15th, 2020, is the 10 year anniversary of the video shoot so I've decided to release this for posterity.A7X Afterlife MIDI DrumsSonic Clang2020-05-29 | These are the drums I programmed for the Afterlife cover I did with my brother Paul and our friends Brian Koenig and Mary Zimmer. I put so much work into these, I wanted to share them with everyone so you can see the level of effort it takes to put together a drum track for a song like this.
Feel free to play along to them, or even download them and use them for your own cover. Just credit me. In the days before the covid-19 pandemic, I got together with my brother Paul and our old friends Brian Koenig (Lords of the Trident) and Mary Zimmer (Helion Prime/VoiceHacks) to do a cover of Avenged Sevenfold's "Afterlife" in my first YouTube collaboration. This is a behind the scenes look at the process. Watch Paul and I record the rhythm guitars, and Koenig lay down a solo that lights his guitar on fire. Since Mary lives in Las Vegas and I live in Madison, WI I wasn't able to get video of her recording the vocals.
Welcome back to the studio! In Episode 8 I fix up some of the rhythm guitar I recorded previously and then move on to the second song in his medley; Underwater Labyrinth. I lay down some sweet, sweet drums.
And yes, the song has become a medley. It's now Intro/Area Zero/Underwater Labyrinth.Guardian Legend Cover - Episode 07 (Bass Pt1)Sonic Clang2020-05-08 | Episode 08: youtu.be/VAIADKnQDLQ Episode 06: youtu.be/sSfnwnc-arI
In episode 07 I move on to start recording bass guitar! I have a deep appreciation for bass guitar, even if I'm more of a guitarist. I've studied bass theory since I was a teenager. There's a quote from Sting that has always stuck with me. It goes something like this; "It’s not a C chord until I play a C." It's an interesting quote because it goes to the heart of bass theory, and how the bass guitar can so drastically change the feeling of the music.
Welcome back! In episode 06 I continue recording the guitars. I'm moving on from the lead guitars that I recorded in episode 05 and this time around I record the rhythm guitars. My cat also cattacks me.
My biggest hero growing up as a young guitarist was James Hetfield. I loved his rhythm chops, and that's also where I put 99.9% of my guitar learning energy.
In episode 05 I start recording the guitars, and of course I start with the lead because it's the main melody of the song. At this point I'm not sure where to take the rhythm guitars, but I'll figure that out when I get there!
I've never been much of a lead guitarist, but I've always been able to learn enough to get by. I really enjoyed playing these.
Welcome back! In episode 04 I finish recording the drums for the first two "loops" of Area 0. After that the song will need a change-up, which I still haven't decided on. I do have an idea or two, but I will hold off on that for now. In episode 05 I'm planning on starting to record music over the drums I've recorded thus far! That means guitars, bass guitar, synths, and other various instruments.

"It's everybody's job in the band to keep time, but it's the drummer's job to make the time interesting." -Gavin Harrison #NESMusic #TheGuardianlegend
Welcome back! In episode 03 I continue recording the drums.
I have a passion for drums. Gavin Harrison is a huge inspiration of mine and he says "It's everybody's job in the band to keep time, but it's the drummer's job to make the time interesting." I always strive for that in my music. The drums should be interesting to listen to, as much as any other instrument.
Welcome back! In Episode 02 I start recording the drums for my Guardian Legend cover.

I always strive for that in my music. The drums should be interesting to listen to, as much as any other instrument.
I'm starting a new video series and a new video format! I'm going to be covering the intro song and Area 0 from the NES game Guardian Legend, one of my favorite NES games ever made.
This also marks my first time doing long form videos of this type. My plan is to make videos of my recording sessions and upload them so you can see what it's like to make music. I'm really excited about this and I think it'll be a really cool inside look at my process. For anyone interested in creating music it'll be fairly educational as well.

A lot of people discovered this song when Mick Gordon played it at the video game awards show. Not me. I drove around in my car for years with this music blasting. I've always loved it since the first time I heard it. It's the reason I got into game music to begin with.

I just found this LOST E1M9 recording!! About 12 years ago I was planning on remaking this with the rest of the songs for the "Classic Doom 3" mod. I got this far with the song and really wasn't loving it, and right at that same time, Thumpmonk asked if he could help me with anything. I said "Sure! Wanna do E1M9?" He of course took it and made an incredible rendition of it. I remembered working on it, but I didn't remember getting as far as I did, so finding this on a backup disk was quite the surprise. I figured I'd put it out there for posterity. Who know I'd have a lost song.
The number one question I've gotten over the years is how I get my guitar sound. I've changed my methods over the years and this video shows my current process for recording metal guitar.
I was using my new song, "Demon Slayer" for this video. This song is available on all major music sites. iTunes: goo.gl/tv5doq Google Play Music: goo.gl/PUUN4I Amazon Music: goo.gl/kbzuyu

I've had a number of people ask me over the years how I record my drums. This is a quick look at my process. After lots of trial an error I've come to use a keyboard to get the midi notes down. I can make them infinitely more expressive than what I used to do, which was to click each note with the mouse. That took hours, and figuring out fills took a lot more math. My songs seemed to come alive as soon as I started using a keyboard.

Here is my long-awaited new original song, Demon Slayer, featuring Stemage on lead guitar (unfortunately he wasn't able to get any video for me). I've wanted to work with him since I first heard Metroid Metal.
Need music for your video? I give you full permission to use this song in your videos. If YouTube sends you an email telling you the music is copyrighted, that's ok. That just means their ContentID system figured out it's mine and you might need to place an ad at the beginning of your video. But it's no big deal. It's OK.
I've finally decided to upload my songs from the Doom 3 mod "Classic Doom 3". Here's the song E1M8, otherwise known as "Sign Of Evil". This is my favorite song from the mod.
