I definitely have a knack for coming up with titles right before I have to render out the final video haha.
This tune was definitely all about experimentation with different sounds and instruments I don’t work with. I found myself using a lot of the same type of sounds on compositions I’ve been working on for a personal project. And I really wanted to see what I could do with sounds I wasn’t as familiar with.
I definitely don’t do electronic stuff that much, so it was really fun to push and see how my composition style differed with writing lines compared to the more RnB and chiptune oriented tracks I do.
The real challenge was in the mixing since it's so different from what I normally do. It was fun to play with textural elements more to really support and bolster the track!
I was really inspired by aivi's newest album tiger & water when writing this track. I struggle a lot with drums in my music and hearing the drums in some of aivi's tracks reminded me that drums don't have to be complicated to be effective.

Game loading: Please wait and groove in the meantime~
A few weeks ago I was playing piano with a friend and started playing this bass line. I just kept looping it and they said it reminded them of a game loading screen. And I took that idea and ran with it!
I wanted to keep this simple with very few layers popping in and out. The bassline is the backbone of the piece just constantly moving with the other layers filling the gaps in between. This was such a fun little groove to write and just jam on! Alternating between the bass line groove and just little solos as the tune builds and dips~
For the video, I wanted to show how I typically record, which is just at my desk, having a good time! I play what comes to my head and see where it goes!
Just like I’m excited for the music I have coming up later this year! Quite a few things in the works that are something special!

I am so excited to finally share this! It was such an honor to work with Square Enix to help promote the new Octopath Traveler game!
I was definitely a little lost at first with what musical direction I wanted to take for this arrangement. I recently discovered the Japanese funk group Casiopea and thought about making a funk arrangement of the Main Theme. However, another part of me wanted to call back to my original cover of the first Octopath Main Theme and heavily utilize woodwinds in the track. Ultimately, I went with a blend of woodwinds and chiptune elements, which was the right call!
I really wanted to keep the feel of adventure and wonder that I got while playing the demo. I played around a lot with little elements weaving in and out of the track, acting almost like little discoveries you find when exploring a game!
This was such a great way to push myself with arranging and mixing since a lot of my more recent work has been only a few layers. I’ve learned a lot about mixing over the past 2 years and felt super happy with how the balance of all these different instruments and layers turned out!
As for the video, I definitely wanted to go all out! I wanted to represent all 8 characters in the new Octopath game and found whatever I could in my wardrobe to resemble their outfits/looks. It was a lot, but so much fun and definitely worth it!

I am SO excited to finally share this music I wrote for this adorable puzzle game called Food Maze!
When Simon contacted me about this project, I was grinning so much! This game was so perfect for me! It's a cute food puzzle game where you're a FROG! And if you've ever seen my livestreams on Twitch, you know we talk a lot about food, do a lot of jigsaw puzzles, and LOVE frogs!
For the main theme, I was sent a few jazz VGM references and ran with it! I wanted to keep things very light and spacious! I loved the playfulness the flute and clarinet added to this track and I'm super happy I got to play it again when recording this video!

You’ve heard of Persona vibes, but what about Animal Crossing vibes?
I’ve been watching SpyxFamily recently and REALLY enjoyed the music! As I was analyzing it, I learned about the Bird Blues Progression! I had definitely heard the progression a lot, but never knew the term for that specific progression!
I adapted the progression a bit, but used it as a framework for this tune. As I started recording parts, it reminded me a lot of music I’ve heard in Animal Crossing New Horizons and I ran with it!
I wanted to channel that charming, cute vibe into the composition keeping things nice and light! And I figured A Warm welcome was a great way to open this new year! I’m so excited for what this year holds!
I also got a new guitar VST during Black Friday and finally was able to mess around with and use it! Still a lot to learn, but nice to have a guitar in my library!
There’s a lot in the works for YouTube this year and I’m excited to share it!

Last video of the year on the last DAY of this year! I wanted to put this project out weeks ago, since it’s been done for awhile. I wrote this in late October early November when I just wanted to make some music, and realized this would make a great wintery tune!
I had a lot of travel through November and December, which made it difficult to film the video and work on editing, but ultimately, I’m really happy I took my time with this!
This composition was a big study in sound design. Having parts flow in and out of a piece, changing the textures of the piece. And I think it really paid off. The mix just feels so clean and crisp, like the feeling of winter wind!
I wanted to channel the two sides of winter: cold harshness and whimsical warmth. It was fun using metallic instruments to speak to both sides and have modality shift between both feelings. A lot of this was unintentional when writing, but I’m super happy with the result!
For the video I had to redo parts a few times in different places, but I think it worked out and still felt smooth and connected!
I know there have been a lot fewer uploads this year, but I’m really proud of the growth and progress I’ve made as a composer and musician. And I appreciate all of your support through this new part of my musical journey!

I am SUPER thrilled with how this track came out! Since Ethereal Wave came out, I’ve been working on a lot of projects for clients and traveling, limiting my time to write music for myself. Earlier this month I decided I wanted that to change, and thought about the music I had been listening to lately. I wanted to write something more lo-fi oriented compared to the digital fusion and chiptune music I’ve been writing the past few months.
I was greatly inspired by GlitchxCity’s Do Not Disturb EP after listening to it on stream recently. These tracks that just speak to everyday feelings and activities really spoke to me. It made me want to write relaxing, warm music about things in my everyday life.
Sometimes when writing lyrical music, I feel like I need to be super innovative and think of something completely new. But sometimes what you have to say is simple and concise, so roll with it! I’ve also listened to a lot of the tune Bubble Tea by Dark Cat and definitely applied a similar structure to this tune!
As for the lyrics, I was inspired by my favorite time of day. After working all day, I love getting to relax with my friends on call watching shows or playing games. It really just lifts me up at the end of a long day. I really wanted to channel that warmth and happiness I feel spending time with my favorite people.
I love how the mix turned out in this one! It really feels like the space is being filled in and I’m excited to explore more to create this type of sound in more music!
For the video, I was definitely inspired by lo-fi beats to study to and how the art is just a girl sitting at her desk with headphones on. I wanted to keep it super simple, showing you the perspective of what it's like when I'm writing music. I'm typically sitting at my desk, jamming, and just having a good time!

This when has been in the works for quite awhile! I recorded the initial idea back in early May and did a bulk of the work in June while traveling, but then other projects consumed my life in the summer months haha
I originally recorded this on acoustic piano with vocals, but wanted to have electric piano be the backbone of this composition. With vocals, flute, bass, and piano supporting it. I programmed a lot of parts when I didn't have access to my keyboard, and learned a lot taking a similar approach like Vernal Wandering.
I was pretty happy with this track in mid June, but had quite a few projects backlogged that I wanted to release first. And then I thought I should add more to it since it felt a little short. However, after adding more to it, it felt like the piece wasn't the same. So I opted to keep this one shorter, and maybe I'll revisit it in the future and extend it, but I'm happy with tune right now!
I was definitely a bit inspired by the Mushoku Tensei ED2 with the chords and feeling of the opening section, but it was fun to turn that into something more in my own style.
For the video, I was in a bit of rush as I had to film this before getting my wisdom teeth removed and packing some stuff. I hadn't used my flood lights in a few months and knew they would be perfect to convey that dreamy night sky feel I wanted to channel in this track. I wanted to have a bit of color variety with the flood lights, and thought about the colors you would see in auroras in the night sky as well.

I'm so glad I finally got to film a video outside! It's been quite awhile!
I was definitely super inspired by the Floral Folklore album released in late May from Infloresce Records. I had listened to it a few days before I started writing this track myself. I loved the whole album being based around different flowers, mythology, and folk tales. It just spoke to so much of what I enjoy in music and try to channel in my own musical storytelling.
I sat down at my piano 5 minutes before I had to head out and recorded the initial idea for this track. And man was it a journey afterward haha. I really liked the form of the composition, however I could not figure out the instruments I wanted to use. Back in late May I was really exploring chiptune sounds, and wanted to work those into this track, but have piano be the focal point.
I sat on the tune for quite awhile after the first 2 weeks of working on it. And being outside surrounded by flowers, sparked my inspiration to finally finish it! I actually ended up filming the video before I finished adding all the parts in the composition itself. It ended up working out to push me to finish the composition to be able to share with you all!
Next month will probably be pretty quiet with a lot of personal things I gotta take care of, but know that I'm still working hard and making music everyday!

Oh boy was this a journey to make a video for... But let's talk about the music first.
Months ago when I started learning how to mess with chiptune sounds, I played the opening chords of this tune and thought, "Woah this is super cool and reminds me a lot of Ace Attorney." After my lesson on Super Audio Boy stuff, I got to work on this tune immediately!
I wanted to channel the energy of standing in a courtroom as you wait for the trial to start. I was definitely inspired by Ace Attorney music and 8bitMusicTheory's video on Ace Attorney orchestrations.
I know this isn't a long tune, but it was a fun way to really dive into chiptune stuff! This was my first jab at a full on chiptune track a few months ago and I'm super happy with the result! It really got me to look at composition differently since the chiptune sounds are very different than my typical piano, winds, and vocal sounds.
As for the video, I've been traveling so much, and didn't have time to film a video for this. So I thought about doing a visualization of the MIDI as you see here! However, the software was not super cooperative for me and took quite a bit from 2 friends to troubleshoot. It ended up not working on my end, so a huge thank you to Maxotunes for doing the MIDI visualization and most of the video stuff!

This one is a little short, but was a super fun challenge!
While I was at PAX East back in April, I was going through withdrawal after 2 days of not working, I asked a friend to play me a song as inspiration to write something. I actually used part of an ad where someone was talking as the start to my melody based on the contour of their words and assigning the closest pitches to it. And those pitches ended up being super similar to the reference tune my friend played for me!
The writing process for this was pretty different since I wrote most of this tune just blocking out MIDI on my computer and not actually playing it on my keyboard (since I didn't have one with me during PAX).
It presented a lot of challenges to make sure the parts would still be playable and having things sound nuanced and have expression. There was A LOT of clean up with velocity and connecting things, but it was super fun to learn and push myself! There are times I won't always have a keyboard accessible, but still wanna make some music!
Around April I started messing a bit more with chiptune sounds and had fun getting to blend it with my more traditional acoustic instruments like piano, bass, and drums. I really wanted to play with some chromatic chords walking down to add some color and variety from the super happy melody and upbeat nature of the tune. It was fun to have the legato chromatic chords break up everything being so light and bouncy.
I thought about adding more to the tune, but I kinda liked keeping it short. Trying to add more felt like I was extending it for the sake of extending it and not because I had more to say. Short, sweet, and in the pocket lol

This has been one of my favorite projects this year! My good friend, TerribleTavi had mentioned commissioning me back in December when we were first met. At PAX East, we talked about it more and got started working on this right after PAX!
The goal was to create a chiptune track that made one feel like they were running through the night and about to take flight. There was a lot of new stuff for me to learn and channel in this! It was a different type of storytelling, but such a fun challenge!
I typically sketch everything in a voice memo app just singing and playing piano. And I just started working with chiptune sounds a few weeks before Tavi and I talked at PAX. It was so much fun to mess around with new sounds and see how it help shift my compositional style and approach!
Every time I sent Tavi a draft, I was super happy with the results and happy to keep pushing this track to the next level!

It's been a bit! My goal every month is to try and write something working on a skill I feel needs improvement in my composition work. It's a nice way to keep learning and experimenting with new sounds and styles!
My goal with this tune was to play with an ostinato again, but also playing with a chord progression I really liked! I recently watched Dr. Stone, and loved it! The third opening's chord progression stuck out to me and I wanted to play around with it myself and see what I could do with it.
I recently started messing with chiptune sounds and thought this was a great way to put it into practice!
I definitely wanted to do jazz fusion with a chiptune lead, kinda reminiscent of Steven Universe in a way! I really struggled with writing a melody for this one, and sent what I had to my friend ThunderScott and he came up with the first chiptune melody you hear in the piece! A huge thanks to him for helping me out!
I didn't have a specific context in mind in terms of the setting of the piece, so I'm interested to know what you all heard! Let me know in the comments!
At the start of the year, I really struggled with what I wanted to do with YouTube and just work in general. It was really tough for me. Anytime I tried to write something for myself or for a client, I just felt so stuck and like no ideas I had were good.
I definitely felt a lot of pressure to compose compared to it being a fun, creative outlet while I did covers. And after a month of being stuck and so tough on myself, I sat down at the piano and played the opening pattern.
One of my goals the past month or so has been maintaining momentum in a tune and not just relying on percussion to create a groove or momentum. I realized a lot of my favorite tunes created momentum with harmonic ostinatos and other pitched based techniques rather than percussive. I definitely did a bit of both, but it was to start a piece with something totally new! I always start with a chord progression and sing a melody. This started with the ostinato and was just a bunch of improvised parts recorded in my DAW back in February.
I was largely inspired by Chrono Trigger and Ace Attorney when writing this track. When the drums come in, I felt transported to the world of Ace Attorney, hearing this a little bit as a character theme you'd hear in court or something. As for the Chrono Trigger influence, the chords for sure, and the softer sections just felt very ethereal in the way some of my favorite tracks from CT feel! I didn't really have a specific goal for where this would fit in a video game, it was just nice to write something and finish!
As for the video, I wanted to take a simple approach since it's all keyboard parts. I just wanted to do little color differences between the piano, EP, and synth parts and of course the particles! I got a new camera in December and I'm so happy to get to use it and keep learning more with each new video!
I owe a lot to this composition as I've been able to push forward with a LOT of different projects and try new things in compositions that I can't wait to share soon! (I promise it won't be 2-3 months til the next video). Might be in a few weeks!

This definitely has to be one of my favorite projects of the year!
I met Boz and Zen in March of this year through an online event, and just loved their stuff! A little after then, I saw they were playing through Danganronpa on stream and loved getting to watch them play the game and help when I could. This summer, I reached out to them because I knew I wanted to do some Danganronpa music with them for the Switch port!
BoZ and Zen do hip hop/nerdcore vgm stuff where they write their own lyrics for rapping and vocals! It's really incredible (go check out there stuff pls)
For this arrangement, I really wanted to capture the nature of this Climax reasoning compared to the first 2 games. When I first heard this track, I was a bit upset it wasn't the previous Climax Reasoning, but it had such a different energy and feeling because V3 is definitely different than the other 2 main games.
I wanted to highlight the themes of Danganronpa, but have them be a bit more universal, things that apply outside the scope of the game. So a lot of the themes are about hope, trust, etc.
I wanted to keep my parts simple so I could really highlight BoZ and Zen's skills throughout the track!

This composition has been in the works for a few months now! I got the initial idea back in September, but hit a few walls with orchestration and recording parts. Thankfully, there was a lot of other music for me to work on in the mean time!
I was definitely inspired by tracks like City of Tears from Hollow Knight and the Wielder Temple from Chicory: A Colorful Tale for this composition. I set out with the vision that this would be a cave theme, however, trying to come up with titles for cave themes is uhh a bit difficult. I almost called this track Dark Cavern, and then remembered I covered a tune called Dark Caverns from Octopath Traveler..
I felt like this track could be heard while wandering through a cave, but also learning history/lore relevant to a plot. Even though you're traveling through darkness, you're gaining light and clarity. Tracks like that are some of my favorites in VGM, including the 2 reference tracks I mentioned above.
I kept this track on the shorter side since I couldn't really think of ways to expand the track that felt natural. So this one is a bit shorter, but I'm super happy with it nonetheless!
The mix was definitely a fun challenge to balance a lot of instruments in a similar range/register to have their own space. I experimented with some different EQs to bring out different qualities of each instrument and it worked really well!
As for the video, I kept it pretty simple and let lumetri color execute the vision! I also used similar effects to the Forest Interlude video to get the effect of rays of light through the dark cave.

This year I knew I had to cover a tune from Danganronpa. I started the series on Halloween of last year and it quickly became one of my favorites series as I played through the trilogy.
I focused a bit more on the video production for this since a huge part of the first Danganronpa game is these saturated hues. The school looks a bit odd with all these bright colors in classrooms and hallways, and I wanted to capture that!
I used some flood lights to capture certain areas of the school and even did little closet cosplays of some characters! It was a fun little way to make the video a bit more of my own. It was definitely a lot of work to get the colors I wanted without having me blend into the background, which was definitely harder with certain colors haha. But it was such a fun challenge and really pushed me to learn more about Lumetri color in Premiere Pro!
The mix was definitely a challenge to balance all the acoustic instrument with the synth layers. I've never worked much with synths before this cover and it was such a fun process to learn how to alter patches and mix them alongside everything else! And the drums... The drums are always a challenge for me, but I really focused on messing with velocities to create dimension and contrast, which I think really brought the drums to life in this track! And turning them up. I normally mix drums very quietly, but I learned recently how much of a difference it makes to turn them up and be more present in the mix!

I knew as soon as I heard this song in game last fall, I HAD to cover it! Ro and I were playing Ikenfell around the same time and gushing about the music endlessly! We knew we had to cover Ikenfell music for a few reasons. We both loved the game and the soundtrack, and also hadn't collabed in over 5 YEARS!
I'm glad we finally changed that haha! We had so much fun going back and forth with arranging, mixing, and editing. We both grown a lot in the past 5 years and it was so much fun to jam with one of my oldest YouTube friends and just have fun making music!
Ro definitely went ham with the video adding all these incredible effects and crushing it with the mix! Huge thank you to Ro for making some music with me!

When I first heard this tune, I grooving so much! I loved how bouncy it sounded and all the layering Toby did. It was fun to reimagine a lot of those layers and add my own to it!
At first I wasn't sure how to cover this, but a friend suggested lo-fi and came together pretty quickly after that. I started tracking stuff immediately after hearing that idea. I love the idea of playing with some the lower lines to work on saxophone and having the higher lines on flute. Helped to bring in some of my instruments to the lo-fi.
I wanted this to have a lighter feel, omitting the bass a lot and letting the drums fill up the low end. It was a fun challenge to try balance a lot of these parts, and remembered how much panning is my best friend in mixing haha
As for the video, I wanted to keep it simple and play with some green and yellow tones because of the borders we see in the Cyber World. I wanted to play into making the Cyber World a bit more whimsical!

Hoooooooo boi. I've never written lyrics for my own music before haha. I've written lyrics based on game songs, so this was totally new for me!
I struggled a bit with writing lyrics as they were really repetitive and concrete at first. But after talking with a friend, we were able to workshop the lyrics to be what you hear right now!
Some of my biggest inspirations when I write music is nature, and more specifically the forest, sunset, sunrise, and the night sky. I've always been able to get lost in my own world when starting up at the trees or the sky. It brings me a lot of peace and reminds there's always someone or something there. And that's definitely what I wanted to convey in this tune.The calmness and beauty of watching the night sky and what I think and feel about it all.
I also got some flood lights recently and thought they were PERFECT for this video! I wanted to transport myself and anyone watching to the night sky and sunset with the different colors I associate with sunset and dusk. I thought it was a really nice touch that hopefully I can incorporate in future videos as well!

I have wanted to cover this track FOREVER! And I'm so glad I finally figured out an arrangement for it! I've been playing the WarioWare demo the past few weeks and am super excited for WarioWare Get It Together to release next week!
For this project, I knew I had to bring my friend Josh on board! He's an incredible guitar player and has been singing a lot recently! I met Josh over 5 years ago at Berklee, but this is actually the first time we've made music together!
I really wanted to slow down the tune and make it a bit more chill and allow Josh's guitar playing to really shine! I kept making stank faces whenever I listened back Josh's recordings while I worked! It also helped that I could really focus on singing the vocal lines properly. The melodic lines in this tune are a bit jumpy, and the slow tempo really allowed me to practice hitting the right pitches.
I as always wanted to add in extra vocal parts for color, but I think my favorite vocal part is the bridge with the little echoes! It was a very last minute addition, but definitely worth it in the end!
I wanted to channel a little bit of Halloween vibes into this cover, but trust me, the Halloween video this year is gonna be very... different and ambitious to say the least.

Hoooo boy! This was a super fun challenge! I’m mostly known for really chill versions of VGM or more lax music in general. But I LOVE RPG battle themes so much. I sat down at my keyboard and played that opening chord progression. As I added more to the track, I heavily took inspiration from one of my favorite battle themes of all time: the Torna Battle theme. The intro is definitely a strong nod to that, but afterward, shows more of my own writing.
I definitely get a lot of inspiration from Japanese jazz trio music. I just love how crisp and tight everything sounds!
One thing I wanted to improve on was having the track be longer. Midnight Muse was a bit short, but I didn’t really know how to expand on it. I wanted to keep the track concise rather than trying to add sections for adding length. With this track, I had a lot of ideas of where I wanted to take this track!
It felt great to write something more upbeat and energetic! And show some winds in an original tune! I’m so used to writing solo piano works. I still wanted the piano to have a prominent role, but start to have other instruments play a more prominent role too!
I really just wanted to incorporate things that I liked in this track. I love quartal harmony and will throw it in whenever I can! And little soli moments just to change texture and color. It’s really fun getting to play with layers beyond volume. Thinking about contrasting textures and tambours makes a big difference! And thinking about that in the composition stages definitely helps mixing feel a bit more smooth!
I had so much fun getting to write this battle theme and mess around with different lighting and particle effects to make the whole really shimmer and sparkle!

Wow… I can’t believe I’m releasing my first original tune on YouTube. After a tough month, I’m happy to start uploading music again! I was just so exhausted from online events the past few months, commissions, lessons, streaming, and making videos. It felt good to recharge a bit, but it was frustrating not being able to create music.
I’ve recorded original music on and off for the past year. Just solo piano stuff whenever I felt like it throughout the early stages of the pandemic. I’ve wanted to write original music the past few months, but it’s been tough. A lot of ideas were just not coming to fruition. It’s something you can’t really force.
This idea came to me last week late at night. I only had a 25 key midi controller with me, and just recorded the first thing that came to my mind. I continued to just record pieces of it late at night since that’s when I got ideas for it!
I wanted to keep it simple in terms of instrumentation since I’m used to recording solo piano compositions. It felt fun to make up a melody and figure out what chords would work underneath, rather than trying to change the melody to fit diatonic chords. My goal was to write something that was soothing and shimmery kinda like staring up at the stars late at night. Really easy listening for late night music listening. Kinda explains the title Midnight Muse haha
I don’t really have much else to say about this composition. But I’m super happy with it and proud to release my first original composition! I’m sure I’ll get better at writing descriptions and inspiration for these!
There will still be covers on the channel, but I definitely wanna start writing and releasing more of my own stuff!

In the words of insaneintherainmusic, Rowan be GROOVIN. Rowan’s Theme is one I’ve held close for most of my life. There’s just this certain feeling I get when I listen to it that I don’t get with other professor themes. A lot of them are great, but there’s this serious, excited feeling to Rowan’s Theme for me. A friend of mine asked me recently if I had covered Rowan’s Theme, and I hadn’t! I had thought about it several times, but either couldn’t come up with an idea or didn’t enjoy the idea as I attempted to bring it to life.
I recently heard PJ Morton’s version of How Deep Is Your Love (it’s amazing, go listen to it). I loved the intimate chamber string ensemble paired with vocals, keys, bass, and drums. It wasn’t a lot in terms of instrumentation, but so resonant and full. I loved the warmth of the strings and pretty much everything about it. When I heard it, I said that’s the kind of music I wanna make. Warm, fun, and resonates on so many levels.
That track was definitely a huge inspiration for the direction I chose to take this cover in. I really wanted to play with acoustic and electric groupings in this. Alternating between grand piano and electric piano in certain sections and pairing electric piano with upright bass and grand piano with electric bass. This track also gave me chance to work more with my string programming in getting that clear sound, but still full. And lastly… drums. Drums and I have a tough time. But I learned a lot about really thinking about what I want my kit to sound like and playing with lots of what Superior Drummer 3 has to offer haha.
I had to think about the video for this quite a bit. I didn’t have as much time to polish this cover up as others and a lot of the parts are programmed. I played most of them on the piano, but I wanted to work more with color and particle speed to convey energy and nostalgia. I’m incredibly excited for the DPPt remakes later this year. DPPt has been my favorite Pokémon game since I played it. I wanted to use color to convey aging/nostalgia since we’re getting this remake!
Lastly, I gotta thank VGR. I was struggling to come up with an ending for this cover and he had asked to hear what I was currently working on. I sent him a draft and he mentioned he could hear original lyrics that dealt with nostalgia. After he said that, the words came pretty quickly. I thought about things I would hear after being away from a place or group of people that were important to me. Gen 4 will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m glad to finally be doing the music some justice.

Such an underrated theme from Pokémon XY! It's been awhile since I've covered a track from this game, but I've heard it so much I had to!
I heard a cool remix of this track recently and thought about how I would make it my own. I wanted vocals to be the focus of this covers and have the rhythm section really compliment it. While there isn't a lot of saxophone in covers lately, I've been trying to push having fun and improvising a bit more since it's a weaker skill of mine. It's been fun figuring out how to bring the saxophone in without being jarring or like it doesn't fit.
I really wanted this to be a chill cover and just jam and have fun. It's been my philosophy with my music in 2021 and I've been so happy with the music I've been making the past 6 months!

Over a year ago, Emile reached out to me about a commission for his Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I hadn't even played the first Xenoblade Chronicles when he asked, what a fool I was... Thankfully that changed pretty quickly after getting this commission. A lot of you know how much I love the Xenoblade games now as there are so many covers on the channel!
This was actually the first project I had worked on with the clarinet you've seen over the past year. This was the arrangement that made me buy one. And I'm glad I was able to have my wonderful friend Dan on this arrangement! He's an incredible flute player and i couldn't have done this without him!
I really wanted to keep the essence of the original string and piano composition. So I transcribed the original and adapted it for woodwinds, but added a few orchestral percussion instruments to really help it sparkle and feel a bit more dynamic!
It's been great to see the journey of this arrangement over the past year. And I cannot thank Emile enough for having me contribute to his Xenoblade 2 let's play. I always love getting to work with Emile and make music for him. Here's to more years of working together!

The second I heard this song in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I absolutely fell in love with it. It reminded me so much of Satorl Marsh from Xenoblade Chronicles in the music and the aesthetic. The Uraya music is just so calming and lush. I wanted to maintain those characteristics but change the orchestral instrumentation to something more in my style.
I love all the strings and countermelodies in the original and decided to create layers within one instrument to keep that full ensemble. This arrangement was done in a bit of a time crunch since I wanted to film while the cherry blossoms were in bloom. It's a very small window haha. I struggled to make the arrangement not sound exactly like the original at first, but after listening to a tune in the same key, I took the idea and ran with it!
The video was so much fun to film since I knew I wanted to be surrounded by pink trees since that's what sticks out the most in Uraya. Everything is pretty dark, but there are these beautiful, glowing pink trees with cascading petals all over the place. I would spend so much time just standing around watching the petals fall and taking in-game screenshots.

Man is this arrangement different than most. This started as a charity stream project. 2 weeks ago I did an event for Direct Relief, raising money through video game music! I performed a mini concert, and then based on an auction, had to produce a track on stream in 2 hours. Comet Observatory won in a close race, and was so much fun! Most of what you’re hearing is polished recordings from the initial stream. But this tune lends itself so well to lo-fi, or as I call mine, faux-fi.
I just wanted this dreamy, ethereal sound to really transport you to this otherworldly space. I’ve been trying to focus on my mixes a lot more to put listeners in the space I’m trying to create. It doesn’t always need to be based on a space you’ve been to or even exist that you know of.
I really wanted to highlight the piano in this one and allow the vocals to take on incentives from the stream. I had a list of melodies and rolled a die when someone donated the set amount. I had to find a way to include it in the track, and I think it worked pretty well! People could also donate for me to use certain instruments in the cover, and I’m happy to finally give my brass instruments a bit of love! I’ve had a flugelhorn and euphonium for a few months, but haven’t really had a good place for them in recent videos. I think they provide nice warmth in this cover that wouldn’t have been the same if it was saxophones or flutes.
It was so much fun to push myself to create almost a full cover on stream in 2 hours. And it was pretty polished after those 2 hours. Hoping to do more production stuff on streams in the future!

What a v i b e ~ I forgot I had covered this tune way back (6 years ago) until a few days ago. I’m glad I finally got to update this classic! I took a chord progression I really liked and tried playing it over Zelda’s Lullaby and it worked pretty well!
Recently, a friend pointed out what my style was. It’s always been tough for me to classify my covers since I do a bit of everything. They labeled my work as Chamber RnB, which I think hits the nail on the head! I do arrangements for small ensembles and utilize a lot of elements from RnB music! Sometimes I’d feel a bit stuck trying to create because it felt like my work didn’t fit into a category. It feels good to have more confidence knowing there’s a better way to define my style of music!
I loved getting to play with a flute soli since it’s softer and more mellow than sax solis I’ve done in the past. But I had to work a sax soli like phrase in there haha! I tried to focus on including chords that I really liked, mostly chromatic mediants, and flat chords. It makes it sound so rich and mellow. I wasn’t planning on doing a tenor solo at first, but I’m glad I did! It was really fun and just makes the ending soar! Reminding me of some jazz ballads.
No vocals in this one, which felt nice! It’s been awhile since I’ve had the winds play a larger role in an arrangement.
I kept the video pretty simple this time around. Playing around with lighting and color correction a bit more in this one. Hoping to start filming stuff outdoors soon as the weather gets nicer and more flowers bloom!

It’s time for a Zelda cover! It’s been quite awhile. Outset Island is one of my favorite themes from Wind Waker, despite never having played the game. I want to though, and I own it.
The idea came from a Twitch stream! (A recurring theme). I’ve had some wrist pain the past month, so I’ve been trying to take streams and playing in general pretty lightly. As a result, I played a lot of chill versions of video game tunes, and Outset Island really resonated with me in this new style!
I had fun keeping it pretty simple and light. It’s mostly piano with a little bit of vocals for color and percussion. I’m having a lot of fun just jamming and creating arrangements! Trying to start with sheet music can sometimes stop an arrangement in its track before it has really come to life. It’s been fun having to transcribe my work after I record! Still gets me to work on transcribing, and find the best ways to write out my little vocal noodles!
The mix was a bit tricky because everything is a bit more exposed with the smaller instrumentation, but I had to learn to trust myself. I kept psyching myself out and being overly critical, when I’m really happy with it!
As for the video, I had a lot of fun messing around with more video effects to transport us to the sea. My goal is to play around more with effects to really transport us to the area in the game. Both with the visual, but also with how I mix covers in the future! I’m super excited to keep pushing myself to make even better content and keep learning!

I've really been enjoying playing Pokémon White 2 on stream the past month! It's one of the few main series games I haven't played yet, which is really a shame. BECAUSE THE MUSIC IN THE GAME IS AWESOME! This is probably the first of many Gen 5 Pokémon cover to come in the next few months as I playthrough the game on Twitch! For this arrangement, it started while the song was fresh in my head, and I just recorded myself jamming on it. I loved how it sounded so much, I wrote out the sheet music to my recording and made it a full cover! I started with just piano and vocals, but knew I wanted to make it a chill jazz combo vibe. A lot of the vocal layers were just added as I was bringing the arrangement to life. As for the sax soli, it was originally a vocal solo I made up, but I thought it would be fun to turn it into a sax soli!
For the video, I wanted to keep it pretty simple. Virbank City has a bit of grimey, dark aesthetic to it in the game. So I wanted to channel those colors and lighting into the video. And since the gym leader is a musician who plays in a dive bar, I thought the flannel fit the vibe too. I'm having fun making the filming and video editing more personal to the specific video! It's been a lot of fun to figure out how I can transport you to the area visually!
I would say the biggest challenge was definitely the mix, but I'm ultimately happy with it! More of mixing time now is spent on refining the FX I use rather than balancing the levels. I feel like I've come a long way with my mixes. I'm enjoying learning the nuances of mixing and how I can achieve specific sounds! It really is amazing!

3rd Donkey Kong cover in the history of my channel! I heard this tune so much on someone's stream and I knew I had to cover it!
This definitely had one of the most unique arranging processes in the history of my channel. I messed around with this tune one afternoon and then attempted to write out an arrangement afterward. There are lots of edits along the way though. I tried to channel some elements from one of my favorite groups, Moonchild. Creating an ethereal vibe that really transported you to the forest.
I'm enjoying changing my arranging process to be more on the fly/in the moment. Normally I write everything out and record it, but I'm enjoying creating and arranging as I go. I've been having a lot more fun this way and really feel like I'm channeling myself into my covers.
I'm really thrilled with how this turned out! I love the combination of piano, e-piano, vocals, and flute. It just sounds so lush and beautiful! Hope you can pick out the DK reference I put in this cover 👀
And as much as I love the arrangement of this, I had so much fun with filming and video editing! I really wanted to have light beams similar to how we see light peeking through the trees in a forest. I had a lot of fun making the video look really calming to reflect the style of the cover. And then I went off the meme end for my thumbnail.

It has been 2 ½ years since my last Pokémon RSE and that’s a problem… Pokémon RSE is one of my favorite games of all time and one of the biggest parts of my childhood!
I had Ever Grande City in my head quite a lot recently and knew I needed to cover it. I was playing it on Twitch when one of my mods suggested I cover it in a Latin style. I took that idea and ran with it!
One thing I love about the original Ever Grande is the flowers surrounding the Pokémon Center when you first arrive there. That little detail really stuck with me over the years. They’re these lovely pops of color and I wanted to translate that into my arrangement! I wanted to really highlight the different colors of woodwind/sax pairings along with these high, glistening piano parts!
I think my favorite part of the arrangement has to be the soli. I was definitely ambitious with it this time around! I originally wrote the top voice based on the B section melody of Ever Grande, but decided it needed to have more motion. And man does this have motion… The biggest challenge was making sure chords were smooth, but didn’t have too many repeating notes. Otherwise everything other than the top line, would have been a nightmare…
Each cover has been challenging to really balance layers. Making sure there isn’t too much happening in one section, or just in general. I tended to use layers on the same instrument so things blended a bit better together, which I think definitely helped!
It felt amazing to bring one of my favorite childhood tunes to life! Hopefully there will be more Pokémon RSE covers this year! I’ve been hearing the music more often and it makes me so excited to cover more!

This is definitely one of my favorite areas from Xenoblade Chronicles 2! (dId YoU kNoW i LiKe XeNoBLaDe?) It’s this beautiful set of caverns with glistening rocks and particles floating in the air. It’s such a tranquil area in the game and the song really captures that.
I wanted to keep that ethereal atmosphere of the original, but really let the vocals and piano shine. I’m having so much fun arranging as I record! It’s great just messing around on the piano and making up riffs to throw in! It’s a bit more adventurous for me to make up vocal lines as I go, but it’s a fun challenge!
I’ve loved getting to mess around with layers too! Making sure there isn’t too much going on that it overwhelms the listener, but also creating layers within an instrument. We often think of stacked harmonies, like the flute soli later in the piece, but there’s other ways to create layers within one instrument!
After Canalave City (last video), I realized I want to make more music like that! Playing to my strengths and just having fun recreating the music that I love!

January has been the month of redos for me! It's been fun to explore old covers and give them a proper update!
Canalave City is such a beautiful tune in Pokémon DPPt! The music reflects the area so well and I love how you can watch the water, but also go read about Sinnoh lore in the Canalave library! I wanted to keep things chill and was inspired by one of my favorite tunes, which is The List by Moonchild. I wanted the cover to have elements of lo-fi music with the drum machine and "phone EQ" in a few sections.
I really wanted the cover to sound like I was just jamming, pretty much just having fun making music. Sometimes stress takes away the fun of creating music, so this cover really helped remind me why I do what I do. I love making music that makes people smile and relax.
So much of this arrangement was written as I recorded. I wanted to mess around with creating layers within an instrument. I've been struggling with arranging a lot because I try to throw every instrument I own into a cover rather than highlighting a select few. I had limited instruments with me when I made this cover, and I think it turned out really well!

Wow… I can’t believe I covered this almost 6 years ago. People really loved this video and I thought it was time for an update! I have learned so much the past 6 years and it was so cool to reflect on that.
6 years ago, I really struggled to hear the bass line and play any seventh chords. It’s amazing how quickly I was able to write out the melody, chords, and bass line for this tune now. I was able to hear and write out all the little parts happening in addition to the main elements as well as write my own! Those string parts just make the tune sound much warmer and really dreamy!
One thing I still struggle with greatly is drums, however I know I've learned a lot about them in 6 years, but still have much more to learn!
I still wanted to showcase the tenor like I did years ago, which was great! I don’t play tenor much aside from recording, so it felt great to give it some love! I just love the warm colors from all the different instruments in this cover!
I love the little quotes of the Surf Theme from Pokémon DPPt in the woodwind parts and tenor solo in this tune. It wasn’t intentional at all, but works considering Cianwood is a city by the water.
One of my goals for 2021 is to improve the look of my videos. I changed up how I normally light my videos and I had to do way less in post than I normally do. I’m really happy with how it turned out! I’m excited to keep messing around with my lighting! I don’t have a large space to film in (basically a 3ft x 3ft square) but I make do with what I have!
Anyway, I’m really happy to finally update a favorite of mine and show what I’ve learned the past 6 years about arranging, recording, mixing, filming, editing, and mastering. It’s incredible to see how much I’ve grown. I hope I continue to grow and learn new things moving forward!

WOW! Last video of this crazy, crazy year. I wanted to cover this tune when I watched SU Future back in March. I wanted to cover it with Jace and Evan a few months back for our graduation, but I struggled with an arrangement idea.
I'm glad I waited though! I'm really happy with how this arrangement came together. I wanted to highlight my amazing collaborators, Jace and Evan! I wanted the piano and wind parts to compliment them. I love how effervescent and calming the original feels, and wanted to channel that to work for woodwinds and vocals.
Jace and Evan are some of my closest friends and really helped me out our last year of college and still help me everyday! They constantly remind me it's okay to be vulnerable, emotional, and have moments where I'm not okay. They remind me that I'm a human being. It's easy to forget with everything we balance on our plates daily, that we are human beings. Humans make mistakes and feel an array of emotions.
So I wanted to highlight my two friends that really helped me get through this year and allowed me to be human. Jace and Evan, thank you so so much for lending your amazing skills and generosity for this cover 💜
And thank YOU! This year has been wild and I had to adapt massively, similar to everyone else. But thank you for your support this year! It has truly meant the world to be supported as I transition from college student to college graduate and having YouTube be my full time job. Well, here we are. One of the last videos of 2020. This is my favorite Pokémon song of all time. And yes, I was absolutely terrified to cover this haha!
Mt. Coronet is one of my favorite areas in Pokémon DPPt because of the incredible music, the story, and scenery. I used to go up to Mt. Coronet all the time after finishing the main game. I could get up to Spear Pillar without having to think at all after awhile.
I started working on this cover months ago. I knew I would need as much time as possible for this. It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Pokémon DPPt cover on the channel, and I was definitely inspired by my friend, insaneintherainmusic as he wraps up his Year of Sinnoh project!
Trying to figure out how I was gonna cover this wondrous piece of music, was so difficult… I had a bunch of ideas, but most of them didn’t stick. What launched the arrangement idea was actually a whim after struggling to work on the arrangement for weeks. In the first low piano melody part, I sang the Pokémon Main Theme over the sustained note. And then I realized, THAT’S IT! I wanted to bring in motives from throughout the Sinnoh region. Mt. Coronet is the pinnacle of your Gen 4 journey. Everything you’ve been doing leads up to this moment. So you’ll hear a lot of references to important parts in your journey across Sinnoh. Even foreshadowing an event or two to come after Mt. Coronet!
Ultimately, I’m incredibly happy with how I ended up covering this tune! I used a similar process to Eterna Forest. Thinking about how I would feel traveling through Mt. Coronet. How could I convey the area through my interpretation of the music? I wanted a very ethereal opening, almost like you’re hearing the choir from the inside part of Mt. Coronet before you step out into the snowy peak.
I wanted it to start soft and as the arrangement grows, you become enveloped by the sound and feel like the snow is really coming down and the winds blowing. This song is very all over the place in terms of structure, instruments, colors, etc and I wanted to convey that myself. So I used almost every single instrument I own in this cover!
The video was a whole other monster. I actually storyboarded this cover after filming everything and it was a lot of fun! I was so indecisive on filming for this, I recorded in a few spots and different shirts.
I don’t really know what else to say about this cover, but I really hope you enjoy this project! This song is so close to my heart. And I’m really glad I waited until now to cover it.

Believe it or not, this is the first Kirby cover on my channel haha! And I’ve been making videos for 7 1/2 years.
The idea came to me when I was doing a chill music stream on Twitch one afternoon. I really liked the idea of slowing down King Dedede's Theme and making it a bit funky.
I love the simplicity of this cover. I really wanted this arrangement to have space and not feel crowded. When I played this on stream, it was just solo piano. So I wanted piano to be the highlight of this cover. The winds were meant to compliment the piano and add some color. The arrangement came really easily and it was fun to try and do something more jazz oriented since it had been quite awhile on the channel.
I don’t have much to say about this cover since it’s pretty straightforward. But I’m glad to finally release a Kirby cover on the channel. Super excited for the last 2 covers of 2020! The next cover is one of my biggest projects to date! It’s a song that means a lot and I’m excited to finally cover it!

Wow it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Chrono Trigger cover here! And I’m so happy to update one of my favorites!
Secret of the Forest has always been such a calming, relaxing tune. I just really love forest themes. The idea of wandering among the trees and listening to the birds is so peaceful. I wanted to channel that atmosphere into this cover. Literally. I used some forest sounds and wanted woodwinds in this cover to imitate bird songs.
I love the simplicity of this tune and wanted to make sure I didn’t overcrowd the arrangement. The piano was the main focus of this arrangement and the woodwinds and percussion compliment the piano. I wanted to highlight the piano so much that I changed around a few chords! This tune is great, but because there aren’t many layers, I wanted to find a way to have more frequent motion. So, I decided to reharmonize the tune, and ultimately super happy with the end result! It was so much fun to try reharmonizing a tune that’s a bit more modal than other tunes I’ve tried.
I’m glad I got to update this cover after 5 years. I’ve learned so much since I made this cover. It was so much fun to revisit this tune and arrange it totally differently than I did before.

It's not often I do UNDERTALE covers, but with it being Halloween I had to cover Spider Dance!
I love the lyrics that Adriana Figueroa wrote years back and wanted to use them as well! I wanted to find a way to channel a bit of a spooky atmosphere, but still very chill. Initially I thought to use instruments associated with Halloween at first, but I'm glad I changed the direction of that!
It's another addition of "faux fi" to the channel haha! I really liked the idea of the electric piano rather than regular piano to give a Halloween vibe. One thing that caused the change to the faux fi style was wanting to have a wailing 80s style sax solo, which I think I definitely did! That idea helped me figure out what to do for the rest of the cover!
I recently got a backdrop, and what timing! I loved getting to carry the Halloween feel not just through the audio, but through the video too! I'll have fun messing around with the backdrop in future covers!

It was only fitting after covering Agniratha Night that I covered Agniratha Day! But this time, I wanted to work with my wonderful quartet on this track!
One of my favorites sections in the tune is towards the end with this killer piano part! Once I heard that piano part, I knew I had to cover this! I really wanted to extend that part and create solo sections. I wanted to blend the quartet with a rhythm section. Using the piano really allowed everyone in the quartet to play all the unique countermelodies in the tune. The orchestration is so beautiful in the original, and I wanted to make it my own!
I've really been enjoying Xenoblade music and hope to cover more of it before the end of 2020. But next time, there will be spoOoOoky cover!

This is one of my favorite tunes from Xenoblade Chronicles 2! And it says a lot because there is A LOT of REALLY good music from this game haha!
I wanted to keep this arrangement simple since the original is just solo piano. It's been awhile since I've done something a bit more classically oriented and I miss it. I just finished my undergrad in classical saxophone and music education. One of my favorite parts was getting to collaborate with a pianist to play classical saxophone repertoire. I thought about how I would want to adapt this solo piano tune to work for saxophone and piano. I thought back to an arrangement I commissioned David Peacock for and drew inspiration from him as well as some of the earliest pieces of classical saxophone works I performed in college.
This song is so beautiful and holds so many memories now that I finished the game. I wanted to capture the feeling of one of the first areas you see in the game, which is this green field with a beautiful blue sky. I got some footage around my area to really evoke that place. Just starting up at the blue sky full of clouds and greenery everywhere!

Dire, Dire Docks has always been a favorite of mine! It's such a chill song and I really wanted to channel that sound, as well as some elegance.
I struggled to write the arrangement at first and did something a bit different! I recorded myself messing around on the piano and used that for structure of the tune and the foundation of the arrangement.
I want to get better at using layers more deliberately rather than just throwing a bunch of instruments together. It's definitely a tough task as it goes beyond the arranging process. It extends into recording and mixing.
I tried to channel a bit of what I like in jazz with my classical background with the countermelodies I wrote throughout. I really wanted the piano to be highlight of this cover and have the other instruments compliment it!

I have missed making covers. I had to take a brief hiatus because I was moving my life after living in Boston for 4 wonderful years.
I know this cover is rough around the edges, but I'm happy with it. This tune is so beautiful and I wanted to keep it simple. The vocal part was a bit tough because it's high. I thought about changing the octave, but the tune didn't have the same feeling and emotion.
I wanted to keep the woodwind parts simple and really have the piano and voice shine through.
I always heard At the Bottom of the Night from Chrono Trigger fitting with this tune. So I had to find a way to put it in the cover.
The mixing was quite a challenge, but it got me to really think about transitioning how I mix now that I'm recording in a very different space.
There's not much to say about this video unfortunately. It was done VERY fast haha, but I'm still pretty happy with it. I loved hearing this in the game and definitely have more Xenoblade covers planned! I'm currently playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and really enjoying it!

This cover was very experimental, but so much fun! I've never covered Lost Woods, and wanted to do a chill cover of it. I was really inspired by Every Part from the Moonchild album Voyager.
I had a lot of fun bringing in more clarinet and some trumpet into the cover! I'm really trying to push myself to incorporate different colors and tones into my arrangements. It's really easy to throw a bunch of instruments into a cover, but it's different to make sure they each have their own place.
Speaking of which, a HUGE thank you to insaneintherain for playing the drums on the track! I was really struggling to program drums and find the right sounds with my drum vst. He definitely helped create the chill vibe of the cover.
I also wanted to make sure I incorporated some other Zelda themes in the tune! Song of Healing felt pretty natural, but Forest Temple is one of my favorites and I had to include it haha!

When I heard this tune in game, I knew I had to cover it! There's a distinct battle where it really catches you off guard and terrifies you. I really wanted to keep the intensity of the original and push myself to explore other genres.
It was so awesome getting to work with Artificial Fear! He is a killer guitarist and trumpet player! I knew he would be perfect for this collab!
This song is all over the place and really pushed me in terms of arranging, mixing, editing, etc. The biggest thing was I wrote original lyrics for this! I feel like the melody doesn't kick in for awhile in this tune. There was a stream where my wonderful friend Adriana Figueroa talked about how she would sing "so you will know our names" at the end of the song when she played through the game. I took that and ran with it haha! I really wanted to have the lyrics be more thematic to life rather than specific to the plot of Xenoblade Chronicles. I had a lot of fun writing the lyrics and consulting some friends about it!
Another thing that was different in this cover was my solo. I normally improvise all my solos, but really struggled when I was practicing some ideas. So I ended up writing out the solo, but I'm really happy with it!
I went a little crazy with the video editing haha! I messed around with different border patterns and learned how to do masking in Premiere Pro!
Overall, I was so excited to work on this cover over the past month and really excited to work with ArtificialFear on this. I can't thank him enough for absolutely shredding!
