My Community Explorer (MCE) is a map-based dashboard that provides selected demographic, business, and resilience information to help users identify potentially underserved areas of their state, counties, and communities. MCE also allows users to see the relationship of underserved communities to current natural disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, air quality, extreme heat, earthquakes and other severe weather events.
In this webinar, we will review the maps, interactive dashboards, and tables to evaluate areas who have experienced natural disasters and the impacts on these communities.

In February, Census Bureau Director Robert Santos announced initial plans for this meeting based on feedback in response to a Federal Register notice outlining proposed changes to the American Community Survey (ACS). An overall theme in the more than 12,000 comments was a desire for more comprehensive engagement. Santos also announced that, based on the feedback, there would be no changes to the disability questions for the 2025 ACS.
The Census Bureau is hosting the meeting with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the National Center for Health Statistics, the National Council on Disability, The Leadership Conference Education Fund, and the Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities’ Health Task Force. The meeting will bring together federal agency staff, disability stakeholders and community representatives, data users, and disability advocates.
The Census Bureau appreciates the public’s interest in the ACS program and feedback on the most recent proposed changes. We are committed to engaging stakeholders and are working closely with our co-sponsors to ensure this convening provides meaningful engagement and is fully inclusive and accessible. The proceedings will help inform the collection of disability information for future ACS iterations as well as for the broader federal community.
We will share details about the meeting location and registration soon. For general information, contact census.partners@census.gov. Members of the media should contact the Public Information Office at pio@census.gov.
Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided. If you have any other access needs, please contact census.partners@census.gov.

Each year, the Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program uses current data on births, deaths, and migration to calculate the population change since the most recent Decennial Census and produces a time series of estimates of population, demographic components of change, and housing units. Population projections are estimates of the population for future dates.
Join us for this webinar to learn how to access these data, the difference between the estimates and projections, the geographic levels that these data are available, examples of how these data are used, and how to use the information using some real-life scenarios.

The S-DHC provides average household size and counts of people living in certain types of households, and most of the tables are also available by race and Hispanic origin. The product supplements data about households and people published in the DHC in May 2023.
The S-DHC data are available for the nation, the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The final table shells are on the “SDHC Tables” tab of the 2020 Census Data Product Crosswalk.
The webinar also provided guidance for data users and included information on how to access the data. A live Q&A session with Census Bureau subject-matter experts followed the briefing.

Housing cost ratios, or the percentage of household income a household spends on housing expenses, offer an excellent measure of housing affordability and excessive shelter costs. A household is said to be cost-burdened when it pays more than 30 percent of its income toward housing expenses.
This presentation will use the latest American Community Survey (ACS) estimates to show housing cost ratios and the level of housing cost burden for renters and owners and how that varies between certain geographies.

The U.S. Census Bureau produces several products that you can use to find information about the population of their community, including the Population Estimates and the American Community Survey (ACS).
In this presentation, we explore the differences between statistics provided by the Population Estimates Program (PEP) and the ACS. Specifically, we describe differences related to the reference date, survey controls, and levels of geography for which the data are available. The presentation will clarify the strengths and limitations of each product, helping data users choose the appropriate one to use for their needs.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership in collaboration with the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) and the Labor Market Information (LMI) Institute, welcomes Camille Gilchriest, as she presents, “Win Grants with LODES Data: Success Stories and Shortcuts from Texas’ Largest Community College System.” Winning grants is a foundational component of regional economic development initiatives, but it can be difficult to quickly craft compelling, data-driven narratives that respond to major funding opportunities. In this presentation, the Dallas College Labor Market Intelligence Center (LMIC) will present case studies that showcase how to utilize the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES) data to support a variety of economic development activities, such as campus planning, relationship building with external partners, and grant development from project design to post-award implementation.
This presentation will also introduce the open-source Python codebase and SQLite database developed by the LMIC that facilitates rapid spatial analysis and visualization of LODES data using arbitrary custom geographies.
About the Presenter
Camille Gilchriest is Director of GIS and Data Visualization in the Dallas College LMIC. Her work has included quantifying the impact of eviction filings on students and their communities, helping Dallas College faculty, students, and staff understand the spatial arrangement of the Dallas-Ft. Worth economy, and automating internal analysis workflows with Python. Gilchriest earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from the University of Chicago.

Data will be available for the nation, states, counties, places (cities and towns), census tracts, and American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian (AIANNH) areas. The amount of data available for the detailed and regional racial and ethnic groups and AIAN tribes and villages depends on their population size within a specific geography. This approach allows the Census Bureau to produce as much detail as possible while ensuring the data meet the Census Bureau’s accuracy standards while also providing strong confidentiality protections.
Embargoed subscribers will have access to these statistics from Tuesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. EDT to Thursday, Aug. 1, at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
The webinar also included information on how to access the data. A live Q&A session with Census Bureau subject-matter experts immediately followed the briefing.
