Growing up unequally OECD 2022-11-25 | People from disadvantaged backgrounds have fewer opportunities to climb the socio-economic ladder. In European OECD countries, children with the greatest socio-economic disadvantage grow up to earn as much as 20% less as adults, than those with more favourable childhoods. Growth in 2023 is strongly dependent on the major Asian emerging market economies, who will account for close to three-quarters of global GDP growth next year, with the United States and Europe decelerating sharply. Involving Youth in Climate Action Decisions OECD 2022-11-09 | Young people will shape the societies of tomorrow. Their perspectives must be included in the discussion on challenges and opportunities arising from the current crisis, enabling them to help shape high-level policy debates and decision-making processes. Agriculture and water. Whats the issue, and what can policymakers do? Major droughts in Chile, Europe, and the United States, for example, have had major effects on agricultural production. Agriculture and climate change. Whats the issue, and what can policymakers do? The OECD Internship Programme - Open All Year Long OECD 2022-04-19 | The OECD Internship Programme is designed to bring highly qualified and motivated students from diverse international backgrounds into the Organisation. Its main goal is to give successful candidates the opportunity to improve their analytical and technical skills in an international environment. The OECD welcomes approximately 500 interns per year.DurationThe duration of the internship is for a period between one to six months (renewable for another 6 months up to a total of twelve months), on a full-time basis (40 hours/week). The OECD encourages potential interns to stay for six months in order to gain the best possible insight into work at the OECD. Time to break the gender tax bias OECD 2022-03-14 | Improving gender equality is an issue of fairness, and a priority for most governments. Working towards more inclusive economies, in which women fully participate, is also important for economic growth. How Can We Reduce the Environmental Impact of Plastics? OECD 2022-02-22 | Plastic is everywhere. Plastic helps us preserve food, insulate constructions, it is used in electronics, it makes vehicles more fuel-efficient, and far more. Yet, the sheer magnitude of plastics consumption in our societies results in a high production-related carbon footprint, high volumes of waste, persistent pollution, and great harm to wildlife and ecosystems. Plastic waste reached 353 million tonnes in 2019, doubling in just 20 years and exerting immense pressure on the planet. Only 9% is recycled, while 22% is dumped in uncontrolled sites, burned in open pits or ends up in rivers and oceans. This is disastrous to our planet.Timely and ambitious policies can drastically reduce future environmental damages and in particular plastic leakage to the environment. Growing awareness of plastic pollution is steering public opinion and is paving the for stronger policy intervention by governments on this front.
