This model is from their "Master" series, and is equipped with sound and DCC. The end ladder detail is particularly finely rendered, and the separately applied grab detail on the rest of the model is all painted in accent colors that really stand out from the base red color.From the Atlas website: This Atlas HO scale model is based upon a standard caboose design of the International Car Company of Kenton, Ohio that was used in the 1940s. It is typically associated with the New Haven Railroad but this body style was in fact used by other rail lines as well. The cabooses showed real longevity and were found in operation well into the diesel era.

They have great paint and some good detail! Take a look!From Bachmann's website: Before the development of the Pullman Standard PS-2, it was common practice to transport granular materials such as feed, cement, and sand in bags stacked inside boxcars. This meant that valuable space was lost, and while the bags could easily be unloaded for smaller customers, the process would be cumbersome for customers requiring bulk deliveries. Pullman Standard changed all this in the late 1940s by providing a car that could be top-loaded, filled to its maximum capacity, and emptied from underneath, effectively revolutionizing bulk transportation. Bachmann’s newest two-bay design is based on later examples of this car seen from the 1970s through to the present day, which primarily hauled cement and sand for both revenue customers and in maintenance service. However, in the early 2000’s, “shoving platforms” began to appear as a place to safely house a crew when a reverse move was required. In stark contrast to some who like to talk about being nice and inclusive, SVL actually puts these ideals into meaningful action.Not only do they have open house events where just about anyone is allowed to run a train, but they also have a membership category for remote members. That's right, remote membership for people who don't even live in the area! How does that work?It works because SVL has gone through a lot of trouble to create a way for remote members to operate on the layout from anywhere in the world. The remote members have often never even been to the layout in person.That's building a bigger tent and including anyone who wants to participate. This time, it's in the form of 86 foot boxcars with the kind of detail we're coming to expect from Class One.In this spotlight, we're lucky enough to look at three of these models, including both the four and eight door versions.From the Class One Model Works website: Between 1963 (when Thrall constructed the first two prototype cars) through 1978 (when Greenville supplied the last 86-foot, 6-inch hi-cube auto parts cars), the fleet of these freight cars swelled to 11,073. Of the commercial car builders, Thrall Car Manufacturing assembled 3,544 cars, placing them in the middle of the pack (production number-wise) between Greenville and Pullman-Standard.
