The first campground we visited was Smokemont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and from that point we were hooked on camping. After growing up camping at Smokemont for all those years, it is still my favorite place to camp. Smokemont campground is located five miles north of Cherokee on US 441, just inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Smokemont Campground is situated along side the Oconaluftee River. Smokemont offers group camping and 138 campsites for primitive camping with no water, power, or sewer hookups. Smokemont Riding Stable is adjacent to the campground. They offer trail rides for ages five years and up and they welcome groups. They have a one hour, two and a half hour, and a four hour ride. Also available for any age are wagon rides. Things you should know: All food, drinks, and equipment used to prepare and store food must be kept sealed in a vehicle or in a camping unit constructed of solid, non-pliable material or as otherwise directed at all times when not in use.Only heat treated firewood which is in its original packaging and bears a certification from the USDA or a state agency may be brought into the park. Campfires are permitted only in fire grates.Pets are allowed in the campground but must be confined or on a six foot leash. Nilight RV Interior Light Installed in a 360 Hunting Blind The Furrminator 2023-11-13 | I received a two pack of the RV Interior Lights from Nilight for a review. I was happy to install and review these lights because I have used this brand previously on my hunting buggy project and I know and have experienced this to be a quality brand name. In this review, the install could not have gone smoother. I already had the power source that was easily accessible. The hardest thing about the install was deciding which way to run the wire to the light. After running the wire to inside the box stand, it was as simple as attaching the positive and negative with the included wire nuts and attaching the light to the ceiling with the provided screws. Side note, I normally would not want a light that bright inside my box stand, but as a grandpa with four, very young grandkids, I thought this would be a great addition to the box stand as I introduce them to hunting. This light is powered by a small 12 volt Mighty Max battery and it is extremely bright. I plan to install the second light from the two pack that I received in the storage compartment of our 2022 Forest River travel trailer. I decided to try a simple modification of making access doors on the plastic cover and this worked great. Stromberg’s Trailer Tray / Modified Install The Furrminator 2023-02-05 | While trying to find a way to haul and store our generator without having to take up room in the bed of my truck, I decided to go with the Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray. With the Trailer Tray I’m able to carry the generator or our Orca cooler on the travel trailer. As I was installing the Trailer Tray, I realized that with a short trailer tongue combined with the front of the trailer coming out over the tongue, I was left with very limited space. The answer to his problem was to leave the tray forward, so that the generator wouldn’t be too close to the front of the trailer, yet I moved the brackets back so that they wouldn’t interfere with the sway bars. I really thought that I was about to have to disassemble the Trailer Tray and return it but fortunately, my plan worked and it has been a fantastic addition to the Flagstaff travel trailer. 2005 FORD F-250 KING Ranch Armrest Upholstery The Furrminator 2022-08-13 | The leather in my 2005 King Ranch Ford F-250 still looks pretty good except for the two armrest. The drivers side armrest was the worst and it was so worn that it was uncomfortable to place your arm on it. I found these replacement armrest covers on Amazon, sold by Richmond Auto Upholstery, and I was surprised at how easy they were to replace. If this is an upgrade you want to attempt, make sure to place them in the sun for a couple hours or heat them with a hair dryer to make them a little more flexible. You definitely want to use a dry plastic grocery bag to make the cover slip on much easier.Though they are listed as drivers side and passenger side, the armrest covers are the same and can fit on either side. DIY Bike Rack / Gooseneck Hitch Bike Rack The Furrminator 2022-08-08 | We recently purchased a new travel trailer with less storage and I needed a little extra room to carry camping gear and the bikes the bed of my pickup. This truck had a gooseneck hitch in it when I purchased it but I’ve never had a need to use it. After making some measurements, I really thought I’d get the bikes up high enough to give me about 20” or so underneath the largest bike but I was pleasantly surprised when the bikes were completely above the side rails of the bed. The bike rack is made from one 54” piece of 2.5” square tubing, two 12” pieces of 2.5” square tubing, and two 47” pieces of 1” square tubing. (The 2.5” tubing is about 1/4” thick metal and the 1” square tubing is 1/8” thick)The total cost of metal was $130.00. I used my side grinder with a 24 grit grinding disc to grind the base of the rack ( bottom 4.5 inches ) so that it would fit inside the gooseneck hitch. I drilled the hole for the hitch pin with a step drill bit which worked great. After welding it all like I wanted it, I painted the rack with a can of black primer / paint combo. After it was all dry I used zip ties to attach pipe insulation to the 1” square tubing. Golf Cart Converted to Hunting Buggy Walk Around The Furrminator 2021-06-10 | In an attempt to get to my hunting spots a little quieter and with less odor, I decided to get an electric hunting cart or hunting buggy. DIY Electric Stabilizer Jack Motor Repair The Furrminator 2020-02-04 | The electric motor that operates the rear stabilizer jack on our travel trailer stopped working. I put off trying to repair it for a couple months because I’m just not that familiar with the inner workings of an electric motor. I was able to use the jack attachment with my drill to raise and lower the stabilizer jacks but I really wanted to repair the original motor. I finally worked up the nerve to give it a shot and it turned out to be a very minor repair. I’m sure I didn’t repair it like a professional would have, especially when I cut a part in half in order to remove it, but the repairs worked and it was extremely inexpensive.

Easier, Cleaner Way To Empty Your Black Water Tank The Furrminator 2019-04-30 | I have used the standard, large sewer hose on our travel trailer for a while now. I grew up using the same type of hose back in the late 70’s and 80’s while helping my Dad empty the black water tank on his travel trailer. After using the Sewer Solution once, I knew that, with the exception of dry camping, I would never go back to the old big sewer hose. This video shows how easy and how well the Sewer Solution works but it doesn’t do it justice, you just have to try it to see how much better this system is compared to using the standard big bulky hose. Harbor Freight Trailer Tongue Box Install The Furrminator 2019-04-19 | After looking at a wide variety of metal boxes that I could have utilized on my travel trailer as a battery box, I decided on the Harbor Freight Trailer Tongue Box. This is a metal box and it fit just right on my travel trailer. The final cost of this box was $77.21 after using the 20% off coupon which was a lot less expensive than most of the boxes that I looked at. I removed the old battery tray that was welded between the frame on the trailer tongue and re-purposed it as a brace under my new battery box. I attached the battery box to the tongue of the trailer with four self tapping screws which held it very securely in place. How To Store The Trailer Hitch On Your Travel Trailer The Furrminator 2019-04-05 | After moving things around in the storage compartment, to make room for the trailer hitch every time we go camping, I decided that I wanted to find a way to store the trailer hitch securely without taking up lots of room. Mud-skipper Twister Lite Build on a Harbor Freight Predator The Furrminator 2019-03-28 | I have been working on my Water Quest 10.2 which is actually a Bass Tender 10.2. After making several modifications and only having a trolling motor to rely on to get me from point A to point B, I decided to shop around for a small boat motor. The Bass Tender is rated for a 7.5 HP motor and all the boat motors of that size seem to be very pricey. After watching several reviews on Mud Motors, I decided that was the way I wanted to go, still a little pricey but a cool option for this boat. I finally decided on the Mud-skipper Twister Lite, made lighter for a smaller boat and more in my price range. All I needed was a motor to attach it to and Harbor Freight had the perfect motor. First, I bought the Harbor Freight Predator 212 which is rated at 6.5 HP, then I ordered the Mud-skipper Twister Lite.
