Typical Books of Terror | Exploring the Depths of Fear: A Talk on Degrees of Horror in Fiction @typicalbooks | Uploaded March 2021 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
What is horror? Explore methods of defining horror novels and find some ideas on where to market, learn, network, or perhaps find your next book to read in this workshop-style video.

To categorize horror, we often look to film or our favourite genres. Here is a quick workshop deriving into the types of horror and how they rank in scares against one another. There may be aspects of books you read or write that are not horror but have these elements!

This is based on a presentation for a local writer's circle on horror subgenres. Being a writer or a reader of fiction we see the focus of a work does not always link to how 'scary' it is. Taking some popular methods of defining horror, I express them as degrees of horror and show how most horror subgenres are linked to a measure of how terrifying they can be.

Helpful for writing horror, or writers of any genre who like #authortube or #horrortube videos to add to the toolbox.

Most links in my video descriptions are affiliate links where I earn somehow when you use the services I do to make videos or for reading and relaxation ~ The opinions expressed herein are my own. If there are #horror books out there that you think I ought to read, let me know. I talk scary books, extreme horror, classic, gothic, and everything in between. Helping you find the next best horror book to read is the goal, and sharing new and old horror from my #booktube shelves and new releases is how! Horror, nonfiction and even true crime can be found here as I find that human beings are the scariest thing of all.
