Using your graphics card (GPU) to process audio was deemed impossible until recently. Whilst they may be great for gaming, analysing ultrasound pics or mining Bitcoins, their inherent latency and the serial nature of digital audio meant that these amazing bits of kit were of little use to the humble musician.
All that has now changed, with tech-savvy industry disruptors GPU Audio exploding onto the scene, sharing a fully working beta release of their new platform and a series of 'proof' plugins that's frankly knocked us all sideways. The ability to offload so much processing to a single card already available in so many music computers breathes new life into old kit and takes our newer systems into another dimension.
