So I'm not dead, everyone! ...maybe this isn't the best video to upload to prove that point. Ah well. Please read the notes in the description - This song gets pretty complex.
First of all, for the story - I guess it can be kinda hard to get at first (Well, it was for me ^_^;). The boy writes in a diary - the "small container" is the diary, I think. He's written in it since he was a kid. One day, it falls open to an entry on a certain girl, and he remembers her. She was always bullied, yet even though he liked her, he would always run away when the bullying started. One day, after trying to raise a conversation with her, she gives him a cryptic message. The next day she disappears - no one in class knows where she went...
and I won't spoil the ending. I'll let you see how it turns out.

This song works with homophones - as you may know, "naku" can be written with two different characters - one (泣く) means cry as in "to weep" and another (鳴く) means cry as in "the sound an animal makes."(There is also a third one (無く) that means "not, without," but fortunately that one doesn't seem to come into play here.). It's a pun that works the same in English, but in this case the words are used for subtle connotations. At when the class is surrounding and tormenting the girl, the word is "nakigoe," "crying voice." But it uses the "animal sound naku." So it's trying to convey that both the cicadas are crying, the class is shouting like beasts, and the girl is crying like a wounded animal. In one word. Hence, the slightly awkward subtitle. Sorry.
Also, (I'm not so sure about this one, but what the hell...) "kuremasu" (呉れます) normally, 99% of the time means "to give." But there is another "kuremasu" ( 暮れます,) written with different kanji that means "to get dark, to end." This kanji is part of the word "yuugure" used in the title, so I don't think it's just a coincidence. (BTW, when the word is used in the lyrics, no kanji is used. It means "to give" based on the context, but if the second meaning was implied a little bit, I wouldn't be surprised..)
This song omits a lot of participles - in other words, most of the words just slam into one another, making it cryptically vague. I tried to preserve this throughout the song. And I like to be as word-for-word literal as I can, but sometimes it just wouldn't make as much sense, or would be a ridiculously long subtitle. This especially shows in the second-to-last stanza... oh dear. *gulp* Well, either I nailed that part or completely screwed it up... Take my words with a grain of salt. My Japanese kinda sucks.
"Deafeningly" - is used as in "painful to the ears." The original japanese word also implies discord - the tears clash with her expressionless face like a crunch note.
Please correct me if I'm wrong anywhere at all.
