Friend at Hand Girona Gold review #274 with The Whiskey Novice Whiskey Novice 2025-04-16 | To tie in the fact that, the Friend at Hand's Girona Gold is a sherry cask finish, and therefore using barrels from Jerez, Spain...the bottle was named after one of the Spanish Armada (The Girona) which, sank off our Northern coast in 1588. When divers went down to the wreck of the Girona in the late 1960s, they discovered gold within the wreck and, recovered it. That collection is now housed at the Ulster museum in Belfast.Among that collection was, a salamander broach (pictured on the label of the bottle.) That broach was to contain 9 rubies. However...6 of the rubies are missing, thought to be at the bottom of the ocean.So, our whiskey, in this case, is called The Girona Gold and The Missing Rubies. Hinch Warehouse 3 Peated Malt review #260 with The Whiskey Novice Whiskey Novice 2025-01-08 | Anyone who watches my reviews regularly, will know that I tend to lean more towards Scotch whisky than any other. There's a reason for that. I prefer Scotch whisky! Irish whiskey has been around a long, long time but...it practically disappeared in the 20th Century. Although it is rebuilding, it'll take time before it re-establishes itself on the world market (outside of your Midleton and Bushmills products obviously!) What might seem like a small gesture from Hinch distillery, may go a long, long way towards cementing it's future as one of the brands to watch in that new establishment!
