Sir Kenneth MacMillan mounted 'The Burrow' in 1958 on the Royal Ballet Touring Company. The music for the ballet was by Frank Martin (Concerto for seven wind instruments, kettledrums and strings, 1949) and the designer was Nicholas Georgiadis.
The original cast included Anne Heaton, Donald Britton, Lynn Seymour, Donald MacLeary, Edward Miller, Noreen Sopwith.
The ballet derives from Franz Kafka's 'The Burrow' where rabbits are chased underground - a metaphor for human beings being persecuted during World War Two.
The talking heads in order here are Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Lynn Seymour and the ballet critic Clive Barnes.
The footage here is of some ensemble work with Lynn Seymour.
The work was recreated by Kenneth MacMillan in 1992 for Birmingham Royal Ballet.
