Metal Fort I - F-Zero Expanded Soundtrack
updated
For a good few years, I was stuck with pocket edition, which didn't have in-game music at the time. It wouldn't be until my 9th birthday that I'd get a taste of C418's works via Minecraft Wii U Edition, which had even more than I'd previously known I was missing out on. Years later, the game would contribute to me forming my first long-distance friendship with a person who went by the NNID of "xKevinx2010", who was one of the few people I'd sent friend requests to after playing a session of Mario Kart 8 online. I still remember the times I'd hide under a bunch of blankets to play with them late at night since they were (presumably) in a far-off time zone.
And now, around 6(?) years after my first taste of the internet, I run a niche YouTube channel where I upload music and other random stuff that I make. I've got less than a week before I become an "adult", so as a tribute/sendoff to my childhood, I decided to make my own little C418-style music disc, since they were one of my favourite parts of the game. Even today, I still listen to them outside of the game pretty often.
Have you ever been asked if you can picture an apple in your head and spin it around? I sure have, and it was accompanied by tracker music... maybe a little more Protracker-ish than this, though.
Had to reupload with a wider thumbnail due to the original being banished to Shorts purgatory, screw that.

0.9.0 existed for about an hour before I ended up having to roll out a hotfix, so this is a trailer for 0.9.1 instead! (...and it uses footage from 0.9.0)
Special thanks to Fizz1ed, UnSunny, MattLikesMath, and Lemoncake for helping me with filming footage for this trailer :3

I actually started working on this remix almost a year ago, but I never uploaded it simply because I didn't know what to do for the thumbnail (which happens pretty often). Heck, if it weren't for the poorly-timed power outage as I was uploading it today, it probably could've came out a few hours earlier.
Hexagon Force has always been one of my favourite songs/levels in GD, the first time I saw it was waaay back in 2016 when I was browsing YouTube in my school's computer lab and came across a video featuring a fanmade concept for a multiplayer mode. I only had the lite version of the game (it only had Stereo Madness up to xStep at the time) and had absolutely no idea what the levels in the full game looked like. Needless to say, it absolutely blew my mind. And here we are now, nearly a decade later, with 2.2[06] out AND some type of versus mode confirmed to be included in the base game in a later update.
Realized too late (as I was typing this description) that I forgot to render an oscilloscope visualizer to use as an overlay... oh well, too late now lol
This is Brickracerz, a game I've been working on since February of this year that aims to bring life back to the genre of janky old Roblox racing games while mixing in some subtle concepts that would've been near-impossible to pull off back in the day. I figured I'd make a trailer for the game since a lot of people seem to think that it isn't out yet (even though I've posted most of the game's OST already), and I wanna bring a bit more attention to it.
Special thanks to all the people who joined in to help record some of the footage for this trailer :D
I've been playing MKWorld for a little while now, and one of the first earworms I've gotten from it is this theme in particular. After hearing it a couple times online, I started to imagine what it'd sound in some other MK styles, one of them being DS. After I started trying to build it myself, I had to take a while to re-familiarize myself with MKDS's soundfont since it naturally sounds a lot more empty than what I'm used to, and there are many places where you can't really avoid having awkward silent gaps in an arrangement.
This is probably the first Mario Kart title that I've picked up on its launch day, and I'm honestly really glad I did, because it is a BLAST. They twisted the original formula even more than I expected, and it's packed with enough stuff that you probably wouldn't get through the whole game in just an afternoon alone even if you tried. I HIGHLY recommend that you experience the game blind if you haven't played or seen gameplay of it yet.
The world is scary right now, but you're not alone β *we're* not alone. Take care out there, y'all. β€οΈπ§‘ππππ
BS F-Zero's version of Port Town has always been one of my favourite themes in the entire series, it's the only arrangement in BSFZGP that isn't based on an existing remix (the rest were either ripped directly from the SFC Game Music Album or were sequenced arrangements based on tracks from the F-Zero Jazz Album... or were Sand Storm) and it kicks ass in every single way.
Huge shoutout to Tony Thai (AKA MIDIMan) for providing the X drum samples, as well as some other stuff (mainly the synth brass sample I used in this remix): youtube.com/watch?v=_ICOH2BLjEg

A couple days ago I had a dream that F-Zero 99 got a huge update that added an entirely original league that had two tracks from a new venue called "Salvaged Scrapyard". SScI was the first track in the league, and SScII (the one I recreated) was second to last. I don't remember anything about the other 3 tracks unfortunately, but maybe someday I'll dream about it again and fill in more details.
There were also a good few other details that weren't attached to the new league, which I jotted down at 4:30 in the morning (around a couple minutes after I woke up from it), if you want to read the rest of what I remembered, I posted all of my notes on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/cosmictailz.bsky.social/post/3loy74uphck2k
Not gonna recreate the rest of the game's soundtrack like this, but I might do one or two more songs that I think would fit with this soundfont.

Prior to 1.6, I decided to give each of my machines a name and personality, since I've always viewed them as little self-sustaining beings rather than just vehicles.
CHERRY (Cherry Thunder):
The leader of the squad. Always determined to push herself to the limit and beyond, and is very passionate about racing.
TIA (Rainbow Fox):
An aspiring musical producer with a strong attitude. Likes to drift around a lot, and is the fastest of the four, with her only drawback being her stamina.
XAVIER (Mirror Swan):
A Murder Geese exile, who was kicked out for "being a wuss". Driving about in the open wilderness for months made their body reflect the colours of the sky, hence their machine name.
SORA (Frozen Tsunami):
The most capable of the four, only held back by his own clumsiness and inability to control himself at his top speed. Despite his flaws, he can persevere in even the direst of situations.
After playing up to level 21, the theme had gotten stuck in my head, and as usual with songs that end up that way, I decided to make a remix of it! Obviously it's not 100% faithful to original GB/GBC hardware due to how many channels I used (and the fact that I used sampled drums), but I still stuck with square/sawtooth waves for most of the instruments.
If you're in the same situation that I was in (or just want a neat-looking oscilloscope program), you can download it here:

For those who're curious or confused, The Ancient Aqua is a scrapped venue that was seen in an early F-Zero Maximum Velocity prototype shown in an internal NOA VHS (which is where the image in the video comes from). In said prototype, a couple songs that were left in the release version's SFX bank could be heard on the title screen and during the short gameplay showcase. The track itself was re-used in the final game as Cloud Carpet - Icarus Circuit.
For whatever reason, when this song was found unused in the final version of F-Zero Maximum Velocity, people thought it was the theme used on Silence, the single playable track in single-pak multiplayer mode, despite it not having any music at all in-game.

A much more refined version of one of my first Maximum Velocity remixes/HQRs, focusing a bit more on sounding decent than being faithful to GBA sound hardware limits (which I've rarely ever actually followed).
This was initially going to have two separate loops, but I ended up scrapping the idea because I couldn't figure out how to make it sound good. Rather than deleting it though, I separated it from the rest of the patterns in the file, so it still exists, but it doesn't play in the song.
Like the first four leagues, the original game requires an activation signal that would've been received via the Satellaview broadcasting service in order to somewhat synchronize every system running the game at the time. Without it, the game will get stuck on the initial starting screen. This can be bypassed with a simple patch to the ROM, and the game can continue as normal without the need for expensive hardware to simulate said signal.

I do not claim ownership of any of the songs listed here (apart from ones from the F-Zero Expanded Soundtrack), they're used in this video to remain faithful to the original broadcasts (or as close as possible, as some songs were composed in-house by Nintendo and/or St.GIGA and have not been released officially).

While I was digging around for songs to throw into my "unreleased" folder, I was reminded of some of the music I made for a romhack that I ultimately never finished, particularly this one. FZES Metal Fort is, in my opinion, one of the best compositions I've ever made, and there was no way I was gonna let this one rot on my flash drive. Thus, I threw it in with all of my other miscellaneous remixes.

We're really getting into the juicy stuff now. Only thing missing from this is a central bass channel to even out the width, and of course, the non-fucked snare drum sample (seriously, why does GBAMR rip it like that???)

I TOLD YALL
I honestly don't remember what compelled me to make this, but I personally think it's both hilarious and badass at the same time lmao
I released the game a while ago and am still actively working on it along with a couple others who're making maps for the game, here's the game link if you'd like to give it a try!

Aaaaand we're starting off 2024 with another case of "I kinda hate it but I'm gonna upload it anyway", I'm not really too fond of this one since the last half of the song is pretty much just a copy and pasted drum loop that slowly gets harder to follow as it goes on.
This won't be the last you see of Forest, by the way.
Some videos are also cut short because there's not much going on in them apart from a static image with background music

This arrangement was largely experimental, and marked the beginning of a transition into a new era for my GPL/CX remixes. I started using proper vibrato effects (Hxy effect commands instead of sequential Exx/Fxx, or portamento down/up), and began experimenting with stereo width by playing a different guitar instrument in each ear using X00 and XFF commands. It sounds pretty lopsided here though, since I used the all-high distorted guitar paired with the lead guitar instead of the all-low distorted guitar that I use nowadays.

Only took nearly 2 years lmao, started working on this pretty much immediately after uploading Death Wind (and didn't finish it until nearly the end of the same year cuz I'm lazy)
For me this one is kinda half-n-half, the organ chords sound really nice but as soon as the second half hits, it HITS. And it hits HARD. TOO hard, even.
Brickracerz is a little game I'm developing on Roblox, you can play it here:

Another old-but-gold mix, I'm not too fond of some parts but overall it's still nice to listen to. For those who were waiting for an extended version of Dream Chaser from Mach 1 Orchestra, here ya go (kinda)
I was || β this close to accidentally reuploading a song that I actually did end up releasing a while back, thankfully though I ended up finding out a couple days ago. (For anybody curious, it was this one: youtube.com/watch?v=qz2zlz_ouHM)
Canvas is one of my personal favourite venues from F-Zero 55, it gives off a similar feel to Mute City in terms of where it's placed in both leagues and overall just looks and sounds amazing :]

Another one that I think still holds up pretty well, though the melody and bassline are noticeably off in a few parts. This one I remember being pretty hard to make due to how different Port Town and Toad's Turnpike are, and I ended up having to make a good few compromises.
