Traditionally associated with European countries like France and Italy, truffle cultivation has found success in various regions across the United States. American farmers have been experimenting with different species of truffles, such as the highly prized black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) and the more adaptable and "easier-to-cultivate" Burgundy truffle (Tuber aestivum).
Truffle cultivation involves carefully selecting suitable truffle-friendly trees with various techniques for inoculation. The process requires patience, as truffles can take several years to mature.

William Padilla-Brown is a Multidisciplinary Citizen Scientist practicing social science, mycology, phycology, molecular biology, and additive manufacturing. William founded MycoSymbiotics in 2015, and has since developed it into the innovative practical applied biological science business it is today. William holds permaculture design certificates acquired through Susquehanna Permaculture and NGOZI, and a certificate from the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in algal culturing techniques. He has published the first English-language books on cultivating the cordyceps mushroom and regularly leads courses on their cultivation. William's research has been sponsored by several organizations and his work has been featured in multiple publications, including Fantastic Fungi and VICE. He also founded and manages MycoFest, an annual mushroom and arts festival, now on its ninth year!
More about the Masterclass
You'll learn how to cultivate fresh, healthy food in your own backyard, balcony or community garden, and gain valuable insights into the benefits of growing your own produce. You'll discover the power of small-scale composting techniques, which are essential for creating nutrient-rich soil that supports healthy plant growth.
You'll also learn about micro hoarding invertebrates, which play a crucial role in maintaining healthy soil and ecosystem balance. With William's guidance, you'll learn how to work with these tiny creatures to create a thriving urban farm. And if you're interested in growing your own superfoods, William will be sharing his insights into a range of nutrient-dense crops that are easy to grow in an urban environment.
In addition to these topics, William will cover mushroom cultivation and general coffee cultivation, which are essential components of any sustainable urban agricultural system. You'll learn how to incorporate these fascinating organisms into your garden or community farm, and discover the many benefits they offer. And with a focus on community engagement, you'll learn how to work collaboratively with your neighbors to create a thriving, sustainable urban farm.

Ramps, also known as wild leeks, are a popular and flavorful ingredient in many dishes, especially in the eastern regions of North America. However, their growing popularity has led to over-harvesting and a decline in their populations, which can have negative impacts on the surrounding ecosystems. To ensure the sustainability of ramp harvesting, it is important to follow certain guidelines and practices.
It's important to identify and harvest ramps in a responsible manner. One should never dig up the entire plant, as this can damage the root system and prevent future growth. Instead, only harvest a few leaves from each plant, leaving the rest intact to continue growing. Additionally, it is important to only harvest ramps in areas where they are abundant, and to avoid areas where their populations are low.
Consider the impact that harvesting ramps may have on other organisms in the ecosystem. Ramps provide food and habitat for a variety of animals, such as bears, deer, and rodents. Therefore, it is important to minimize disruption to the ecosystem by leaving enough ramps for these animals to feed on.
Many organizations and conservation groups work to monitor and protect the populations of ramps, and by supporting their efforts, we can ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy this delicious ingredient.
By following responsible harvesting practices, considering the impact on the ecosystem, and supporting conservation efforts, we can ensure the sustainability of ramp harvesting and preserve the delicate balance of our natural world.

While this morel cultivation experiment is still in its infancy, our experiment shows that it is possible to grow these prized mushrooms using a combination of laboratory techniques and natural cultivation methods. This opens up exciting possibilities for home gardeners and small-scale farmers who want to produce their own morels.
Growing morels is not without its challenges. Morels are notoriously difficult to cultivate and require specific environmental conditions to grow. But with further experimentation and research, we believe that morel cultivation could become a viable and sustainable industry in the future.

The intention of the film is to highlight the ethos of sustainable farming and dedication to quality sun-grown cannabis shared by Frenchy and his farmers. During filming, California’s cannabis industry experienced waves of change that negatively affected and threatened the livelihood of the small farmers Frenchy worked with. This maelstrom of bureaucracy and hypocrisy forms the context of the film in which Frenchy and the farmers' fight for quality — and survival — intensified. Unfortunately, the mistreatment of small cannabis farmers is still happening today, and, with the release of this documentary, we hope to bring awareness and change to the situation.” Jake Remington
To that end, 20% of proceeds from all screenings of the film both in theaters and eventually online will be donated to the Origins Council, a nonprofit advocacy association that serves 900 licensed small and independent cannabis businesses in six legacy-producing counties throughout California. Origins Council in turn will use the money to support their project with the Lost Coast Farmers’ Guild of Humboldt County to research and develop the Guild's petition to establish one of the first legally recognized cannabis appellations in the world.

This course is designed to teach participants the skills and techniques required for outdoor cultivation of gourmet mushrooms. We'll cover three main techniques: log plugging, spawn block beds, and low tech greenhouses.
The course will be held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and will include catered meals for all participants. Each student will leave the course with a spawn block and inoculated log to begin their own mushroom cultivation at home.
Throughout the course, participants will learn about the different types of mushrooms that can be grown outdoors and the ideal conditions for their growth. They will also learn about the different materials and tools required for each technique, as well as the proper care and maintenance of the growing area.
Overall, this course is ideal for anyone interested in outdoor mushroom cultivation, whether as a hobby or for commercial purposes. By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and skills required to start their own mushroom cultivation and produce their own mushrooms.
