Winner of the 2025 European Digital Connectivity Award for Bridging the Digital Divide in Rural and Remote Areas, Cyta’s nationwide FTTH rollout brings very high-capacity networks to Cyprus’s most remote and mountainous regions, including the Troodos area. Co-funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, the project aims to achieve universal FTTH coverage by 2026, ensuring all communities - even those previously considered commercially unviable - have access to high-speed, reliable broadband.
The initiative connects households, schools, hospitals and municipal buildings with fibre or, where necessary, fixed-wireless access via Cyta’s 5G network. Designed as wholesale-ready infrastructure open to all operators, it fosters competition, accelerates digital inclusion and supports Cyprus’s goal to deactivate all copper networks by 2029.
