(even in the hospital!) 🙋♀️After Isaac's leukemia diagnosis last fall, we had to dramatically simplify our homeschool plan for the year.One of the areas of study that got cut down to barebones was our history plan. So I was incredibly grateful for the Hands-on History World Cultures projects from @sonlight that Isaac was still able to enjoy this year, even during his hospitalizations!I seriously nearly cried earlier this year watching Isaac enjoying several of the Hands-on History: World Cultures projects this year both in our living room and during a lengthy hospitalization.For my project-loving son it was just another way to keep his hands and mind occupied in the midst of chemo. But as a homeschool mom? I knew that he was also learning history along the way.While the hands-on history activities kits are excellent for anyone using Sonlight’s history curriculum, they're really an amazing open-and-go enrichment kit for any homeschool family. This has been brought home to me in a unique way this homeschool year in the midst of my youngest son’s medical crisis.Homeschooling in the midst of this challenging season has required flexibility on the part of each member of the family. Our homeschool goals and priorities, however, have remained the same.My girls have had to take on a lot more independence in their learning this year. I found a quiet corner and recited “My Shadow” (one of my FAVORITE poems, by the way) to my mom. That poem helped me feel happier, and I went back to playing. Because another thing about me you should know? I LOVE climbing REALLY HIGH on things like trees and playgrounds and anywhere else it might be kind of dangerous but also really fun. You’ll sit beside your child and lead them through each section before they work independently on the additional review problems in the workbook.Student TextbookThe full-color student textbook is designed to be consumable, just like the workbook. As your child progresses through the lesson, there are blue boxes and blank spaces for them to write in the textbook and engage with the math concepts.Student WorkbookEach lesson has additional review available in the student workbooks. Many exercises are divided into Basics, Practice, Check, and Challenge sections. You can probably skip the “basics” if your child breezed through the lesson topic.Instructor’s Printouts (optional)The Home Instructor’s Guide references a variety of printouts to be used throughout the course of study. They’re available for free as a pdf download from the Singapore Math website, but I’m always a fan of making it easy! I like that you can purchase the complete set of activity sheets already printed out and ready to go.Dimensions Math test books (optional)If you want additional practice or if you need more formal assessment in your homeschool, the test books correspond with the lessons in each semester of Dimensions Math. The tests can be removed from the book and handed out to your child.
