Maelstrom: Itzikel Maelstrom Fiddlers 2016-06-18 | We originally learned "Itzikel" from the playing of Sligo fiddler Kevin Burke. He plays it very slowly as a lament. The tune is, at least in the Klezmer tradition, played as a freilach or dance tune. “Freilach” actually means something like “happy” or “merry.” In this video, from the televised We Are Takoma concert, we play both versions.
