At this time Pietro Mascagni was already seventy-five years old and this was the last occasion Mascagni conducted his own work outside his home-country Italy. Besides two years earlier than the studio-recording from 1940 for His Masters Voice with Beniamino Gigli and the same Lina Bruna Rasa. Lina Buna Rasa(1907-1984) is without doubt the most striking singer in this recording. Her carreer ended very tragic: About 1940 a colleague remembered: “Her marvelous voice came to life as soon as she began her scenes. This happened only onstage. We were all very affectionate toward her, but when not on the stage, she was passive, apathetic, would not speak and remained doggedly clinging to her handbag." On 20 July 1942, she sang in Cavalleria Rusticana at the outdoor arena in Pesaro. It was to be her final performance in a staged opera. Boyschoir the Regensburger Domspatzen sings Stabat Mater by Pergolesi (rec.1955) Wim 2016-10-23 | The "Regensburger Domspatzen" (Regensburg Cathedral Choir) is the boyschoir for liturgical music in the St. Peter's Cathedral in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany. The choir trace their origins back to the year 975 when bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg founded a cathedral-school that instructed boys to sing in the liturgy. The choir has seen various ups and downs during its more than 1,000-year history. In the 20th century, however, the Domspatzen became world-famous, especially through the achievement of the two directors who were to shape them over the course of 70 years: Domkapellmeister Theobald Schrems (1924–1964) and Georg Ratzinger (1964–1994).Schrems laid the foundations that enabled the choir’s success by giving the Domspatzen their current institutional makeup: a boarding school for boys aged 10–19, a private secondary school with emphasis on musical education, and the choir at the center of the structure. Growing older, most of those children are not able to continue their sucesses. Not so Willy Alberti (whose real name was Willy Verbruggen). In 1948,Willy Alberti was just 22 y.o. he made his first record, two songs in his beloved Italian language : La Spagnola and Chi sse ne scorda cchiu. Why italian songs ? Willy admired singers such as Tito Schipa, Beniamino Gigli and Claudio Villa. With his voice he was able to create the same atmosphere of bleu skys, red wine, beautiful girls and a golden sun. However his greatest success he obtained with Dutch songs, of witch he made hunderds of records , in the second half of his carreer together with his gifted daughter Willeke. Yet, sometimes he followed his heart and recorded again some light Italian songs.About 1974 his hopes were realized: he made two LP's with operafragments and classical italian songs: CNR 655.062 and CNR 655.064.Here are his opera aria's of this two LP's, all famous and well known. The duets are sung with the contralto Anke Borkstra and with the tenor/bariton Len del Ferro.

With the help of a formel lover, arrived from Vienna, she escapes out of the Chinese court and turns back to her beloved home-land. Leaving behind the prince in sadness. (As opposed to most of the other operettas this one has a sad ending).In the autumn of 1966 Guiseppe di Stefano sang for de first time in the "Theater Des Westens" in Berlin an operettarole: Prince Sou-Chong in the Land of Smiles. The records here are green HMV's.The interpreters:Margherita Bevignani, soprano (1887 - 1921).In the beginning of her carreer she appeared in a number of Italian citys. She recorded this La Traviata in Milano in 1915. In that year she came to the Netherlands and she scored great success with her interpretation of La Traviata. As a result of WW 1 the borders were closed and she could not return. She stayed in the Netherlands during the rest of the war and gave many concerts. In 1918, just at the end of the war she felt ill: Spanish influenza, who took tenthousands of victems in the Netherlands. She died in 1921 in Milano. Franco Tumminello, tenor (1880 - ?)There is little known about this tenor. He made his debut in 1911 and appeared in Jesi, Torino and Roma. Anyway, he was the Tiruddi in the first recording of the complete Cavalleria Rusticana, also in 1915.Ernesto Badini, bariton (1876 – 1937)This world-famous bariton was guest in all the great theatres of Italy and de rest of Europe, as well in South America. He participated in some Opera-premieres, so as Piccolo Marat (Mascagni), La cena delle Beffe (Giordano) and Sly (Wolf-Ferrari).
