Charles Viva Jan Path 2020-03-15 | Meet Dr. Charles Viva, a remarkable plastic surgeon who has devoted years of his free time to helping deformed and damaged people from poor countries.The surgeon, who sports a trademark white moustache, has been on mercy missions to under-developed countries between 25 and 30 times. Part of a little-known charity called Interplast, the Teesside surgeon must have operated on literally thousands of patients who otherwise could not have afforded the treatment.He specialises in repairing cleft lips and palates, but has also helped patients suffering from horrendous burns.Since he retired from Middlesbrough General Hospital in 1999, Mr Viva has been able to devote more of his time to trips to places like Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Uganda.
