Sato was a pioneering keyboardist in the Japanese “city pop” soft rock and jazz fusion movements during the 70s and 80s. Ultraflex’s sound is a nod to their ancestors in the historical lineage of spectacular electronic music, like Sato’s, resulting in a catchy, contemporary whirlwind of dance floor weirdness. The duo’s material is both kitsch and high concept; pushed through a contemporary pop culture filter, Ultraflex creates their own brand-new potion carefully tailored to your needs.Ultraflex discovered Sato’s original 'Say Goodbye' while partying at Ohm in Berlin some years ago. Kari declared that it would be the perfect (and incredibly inappropriate) song to have played at her funeral, with the line “hope you won’t be lonely” being directed towards her partner, Ådne Meisfjord, who co-produced the cover. Since then, the song has been a favorite of theirs and a big inspiration in terms of production, especially the epic vocoder sound in the verses and fantastic synth soundscape throughout the song.“One of our first dreams together as a band was to travel to Japan.
