There Can Be Only One Device
updated
That’s not all...
Is that all you can do?
Can you read between the lines?
Can you handle being redesigned?
Tonal DNA: E Phrygian Dominant...... E, F, G#, A, B, C, D
This piece treats transliteration errors as prophets, metamorphasising lexicon without grammatical passports, rhythm becoming an unbound nervous system, identity peeled into editions, and meaning leaking out sideways through universal musical vibration.
Volca Bass, Volca Beats, Volca FM2, Roland voice processing, Boss ME-80, EQ, Mini Universe and basic FX are folded into cathedral undertow of dawless madness — where message is not the message, the line is not the line, and the truer signal lives in the luminous choreography inbetween the chaos of existence. This isn't a postmodern-surreal trance fragment about accepting redesign, resisting perspective-shift, and being gently mugged by interdimensional possibility!
"Wonder why..."
"Everyone lies..."
"Don't you cry..."
The journey begins beneath a sky filled with stars that should not be visible in daylight. A city reflects itself into infinity. A doorway appears among the clouds. A lighthouse waits where no lighthouse should exist. People walk beyond the edge of certainty. Beneath the ocean, new forms of intelligence inherit the ruins. Somewhere beyond all explanation, the staircase continues into the stars.
Perhaps the song is about deception. Perhaps it is about civilisation, transformation, and the strange things that survive us. Or perhaps it is simply four notes asking a question that never wanted an answer.

"The lighthouse was never the destination."
After a week that seemed to accelerate beyond its own momentum, Wagoo's Panda four-box challenge arrived at precisely the right moment. Built entirely from the Korg Volca Bass, Volca Beats, Volca FM2 and Roland E-4, *Dizzying* explores luck, momentum, probability and the subtle realisation that the wheel may be turning us far more than we are turning it.
At 72 BPM, fractured vocal loops, shifting formants and evolving sequences spiral through a landscape suspended somewhere between dream logic, cautionary tale and an unusually honest conversation with oneself at the edge of midnight.
*"Oh, it's so dizzying..."*
Thanks for another challenge that imposed order upon an otherwise spinning weekend.

No clock.
No sequence.
No plan.
Just live manipulation on the Behringer TD-3-MO, primitive percussion, and vocals through the Zoom V3 until the phrase emerged:
“Like a laser beam through my heart…
this world can tear us apart…”
Scale / mode:
F♯ Hungarian Minor
Primary live note cluster:
F♯ – A – C – C♯ – F
No fixed tempo.
Only recurring emotional gravity.
#DAWless #AcidJam #TD3MO #DarkAmbient #ExperimentalMusic #ZoomV3
No DAW.
No clock.
No sequencer.
No safety net.
Just a black cloak, live acid lines on the Behringer TD-3-MO, hand-played Korg Volca Beats hits, voice through the Zoom V3, and whatever pattern decided to emerge from the static.
Challenge themes:
• Morphogenesis
• Linear drumming
• “Look Mum No Computer” theatrical chaos
Lyrics included:
“Oh can you feel it coming at you like a fright train…”
“Help me find Jonathan’s Panda…”
“To save me from this Graceful Griffin…”
I maintain the controversial legal position that:
ANY sequencer is technically a DAW wearing a smaller hat.
Therefore:
if your entry used a sequence, drone, clock, arpeggiator, synced toaster, or emotionally stabilised BPM…
you are respectfully disqualified by the ancient Hardware Jam tribunal.
May Jonathan, Panda, and Grace judge us fairly in the sacred circuitry beyond Basel.

The idea: technology steals time, identity dissolves into feeds, and the old country ways become a buried wisdom signal under nuclear static.
Acoustic guitar opens the human side: road, dust, church bell, longing.
Then the machines answer: TR-8S clock, TD-3-MO fission-bass, Opsix FM bells, Zoom V3 vocal colour.
Not polished. Not quite right. The sounds were there; the mix became muddied. My auditory apology: this needed proper multitrack capture, not a single collapsing stereo compromise. I have known for a while I need a recorder-mixer that lets the hardware breathe separately.
Still, this is the point of hardware jamming: real hands, real boxes, real errors, real voltage.
A DAW can perfect the corpse; hardware lets the animal sing.
Rebuild notes
Theme: acid techno × country ballad × nuclear fusion/fission metaphor
Tempo: slow guitar intro, then around 126–128 BPM
Harmony: C / Am / F / G, with F tension underneath
Image-world: broken reactor chapel, cowboy, church bell, nuclear rain, old wisdom versus technological fission
Opsix rack
Dreamy FM bell / glass chapel sound.
Pattern:
C5 C5 G5 C5 | A5 A5 E5 A5 | F5 F5 C5 F5 | G5 G5 D5 G5
Use delay/reverb, slight modulation, occasional distortion or filter movement. Keep it high so vocals and TD-3-MO have space.
TD-3-MO
Sparse bassline, more wounded animal than lead.
Current pattern:
F2 rest F3 slide | rest rest rest rest | F1 accent rest F3 slide | rest rest rest rest
Nuance: keep the rests. They create the ache. Use F2 as anchor, F1 accent as weight, F3 slide as flare. Maybe add a rare C or Eb pickup every fourth loop.
TR-8S
Country-machine stomp.
Suggested simple pattern:
Kick: 1, 7, 9, 11, 13
Snare/rim: 5, 13
Closed hat: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15
Open hat: 12 or 16
Low tom/fill: 16 every second or fourth bar
Kit: dusty 606/707/909 hybrid; not too club-clean.
Guitar
Slow acoustic opening over:
Am – F – C – G
Then put guitar down, turn the tempo up, let the machines take over like technology interrupting the campfire.
Lyric fragments / future song notes
“I lost you like a church bell in the nuclear rain,”
“Kept looking for you but won’t let love drive me insane,”
“I kept my soul on the road where fusion hides,”
“Dust remembers every star in sight,”
“Gumtrees singing in the distant flames,”
“Pulling me to new horizons calling out my name,”
“Forget the hidden wisdom of old country ways,”
“And we ignite fission, destroying our culture,”
“If the world splits open, let the light leak through,”
“Half acid, half altar, all heart,”
“The reactor choir is humming my name,”
“Even the machine wants mercy,”
“Fusion makes the sun, but longing makes the song,”
“When the atoms disagree, they still make light.”
The lyric began as a live jam — “like a falling star, I wonder where you are” — then mutated into a mythic signal: gates falling, lost lights returning, black suns burning, droids in the doorway, broken planets weeping. Underneath the sci-fi ruin, the song is simpler: wanting someone near the end of things, without knowing whether you are saving them, following them, or being summoned by them.
One more life.
One lost light.
Found in sound.
Built live:
– TD-3-MO: modulated acid line, flange drift = cognitive distortion shimmer
– Hologram Microcosm: granular diffusion, time-stretched memory fragments
– Zoom V3 Vocal Processor: harmonic doubling = internal parts dialogue
– Looper: percussive mouth architecture (clicks, breath-snare, transient sweeps)
Lyrical schema (recursive cognition loop):
“I think I’m dying n crying…
tired of all the lying…
you wake up crying…
but all you need is to start trying…”
Interpretation vector:
Perceived collapse ≠ terminal state; it is a mislabelled transition phase—liminal threshold where affect floods before integration. The mind catastrophises (dying), the body discharges (crying), the system recalibrates (trying).
Musical architecture:
Bb major centre → consonant scaffold
Melodic phrasing → suspended resolution (tonic avoidance micro-delays)
Flange + granular smear → temporal instability (memory distortion analogue)
Visual motif:
Candle = attentional singularity
Flame flicker = neural oscillation under load
Wax melt = entropy made visible
Use case:
Loop it. Sit with it. Track internal shifts without intervention. Let repetition metabolise the signal.

TD-3-MO threads the anomaly (G♯) through granular fracture via Hologram Electronics Microcosm, turning acid articulation into tessellated light.
Behringer Crave holds a low-D pedal—somatic anchor—while slow reverb diffuses temporal edges into a nocturnal wash.
Vocal line constrained by pitch correction to D-centric space: narrative coherence over spectral drift.
Lyrical fragments behave as iterative probes rather than linear story—questions looping until the environment answers:
“oh yea what can you see,
will you come out to see,
we should be free,
will you set me free…
if you were lost at sea…
this is the place to be…”
Theme: liberation without departure—freedom discovered within the field rather than by exiting it.
The raised fourth functions like a lighthouse that never resolves—orientation without arrival.
Signal chain (concise):
RC-505 → summing → monitors/interface; TD-3-MO → Microcosm (mosaic/granular); Crave → slow reverb; voice → pitch-locked D.
Headphones recommended.
This Hardware Jams entry leans into the brief: two sound sources, diametrically opposed, yet somehow completing each other. Instead of forcing harmony, the piece lets tension persist until it behaves like unity.
Think ink in milk—contrast doesn’t cancel; it reveals pattern.
- Discrete vs continuous
- Sharp vs flat worlds
- Control vs surrender
The centre isn’t compromise—it’s a third state you can feel before you can name
Rig / Build
- TD-3-MO → Microcosm → sloer reverb (D major domain: fluid drift)
- Behringer Crave (A♭, analogue rigid, stepped, crystalline)
- Voice → Zoom V3 (G-centred pitch constraint)
- Beatbox → RC-600 looper (time binding / pulse)
Each voice speaks into the silence of the other—until silence disappears.
- D Major: D E F♯ G A B C♯
- A♭ Major: A♭ B♭ C D♭ E♭ F G
- Shared attractor: G
Two tonal gravities, almost no overlap. The vocal refuses to choose—and that’s where the piece lives.
Lyrics that emerged from the tone.....
Never shall we meet,
in pitch-corrected beats,
is it important to greet,
a broken filter sweep,
break the shape of me,
for you I’ll be the freak,
so you dream of sleep,
in shattered glass we weep,
lost in rhythms deep,
it’s broken hearts we keep
Why........
If it feels like the parts are arguing… wait.
If it feels like they’re the same thing… you’re there.

Dm Em A7 G7
This piece leans into a D Lydian shimmer that never quite resolves—bright on the surface, but subtly detuned underneath—like warmth slipping out of phase. The groove sits deliberately restrained while the tonal centre drifts, giving way to an autumnal pull that creeps in without announcement.
Everything here was performed live on hardware:
- Volca Bass carrying the contour (with octave displacement for separation)
- Volca Beats holding a minimal pulse
- Behringer Crave shaping seasonal textures through modulation
- Hologram Microcosm adding granular decay and spatial smear
- Boss / NUX chain for tone shaping and ambience
- No DAW rescue. Just signal, drift, and decisions.
The idea...... Spring doesn’t end—it misaligns,
and by the time you notice, you’re already in autumn.
Detuning, phase shifts, and space are doing the storytelling more than melody—letting the sound feel like it’s remembering something slightly wrong.
Part of the HWJ Challenge – April ’26
If you’ve ever felt a season slip past without closure, this is that moment stretched out and looped.

Live chain: Boss RC-600 anchors the loop architecture, Boss ME-80 shapes core tone and dynamics, Zoom V3 Vocal Processor introduces formant drift and harmonic doubling, and the Hologram Microcosm dissolves time into granular afterimages.
No drums—only implied pulse. Breath, consonant, and resonance become rhythm. The piece sits in a tensioned modal field (Phrygian-dominant inflection) where resolution is deferred; attraction and dissonance co-orbit rather than collapse.
Lyrical seed (looped/varied):
It was the shape I was in, when I met you that day,
could it have turned out any other way,
was gonna get lost in my mind, it was about time,
living within, stuck in my sins,
could it have turned out any other way
Headphones recommended. Let the loops reconfigure the edges.

Vocals and guitar were layered over the top, with the hardware textures carrying most of the movement: FM shimmer, analogue bass throb, tape-space echoes, and atmospheric pedal overlays throughout the video. In hindsight, a soft clap or percussive transient may have helped separate the synthetic heartbeat from the Crave’s low-end pulse, and the mix does get unintentionally dense in places — part of the charm of a live hardware jam.
I’d rather *synth & send it* than let ideas die on a hard drive. Jams are meant to breathe, drift, and occasionally blur at the edges.
Hardware in this session includes Behringer Crave paired with Hologram Microcosm, Korg Volca FM paired with M-Vave mini universe, P90 modded Les Paul with NUXX Tape Echo, vocal FX chain was Zoom V3 with Walrus audio Sloer reverb, all that tempo sync'd with the Roland TR-8S except the Crave whose sequencer I polyrhthymn ear matched to the rest.
This version blends:
Hologram Microcosm on vocals for pitch-shifted textures and spatial movement
TR-8S rhythm and tape echo ambience
Volca Bass for the main acid-inspired riff
layered vocal harmonies and octave-shift textures
slow atmospheric reverb pads via MIDI
The visuals use transparent video overlays of the performance setup, synths, and evening bushland driving footage to create a dream-state atmosphere at dusk.
Headphones recommended for the vocal movement and low-end bass detail.

Can't be without your sound
Dm A7 F G7
“You’re My Lost Page” drifts through the static of longing — built from sampled error tones, broken dial-up ghosts, voicemail fragments, breath, footsteps, and voice textures bent through pitch, tape echo, granular reverb, and analogue synth haze.
What begins as a 404 becomes something stranger:
a connection that refuses to die.
Fax screams.
Windows fault chimes.
A redial tone that sounds almost like hope.
A voice message left too late.
Waves folding over the shoreline like corrupted data trying to rewrite itself.
This piece lives in the space between glitch and desire, where technology starts sounding almost human and memory loops like a machine that cannot let go.
Headphones recommended.
Best experienced at dusk.
