Neo Thunder FAST. 380 Sprite Version. Neo Geo Homebrew Phoenix Risen 2026-01-22 | I started a coding project to remove the slowdown from Sebastian Mihai's 2011 homebrew game Neo Thunder. This is just a test of using all 380 sprites (32 background tiles, 2 player ship sprites, 21 player bullets, 155 enemies, 170 enemy bullets). There is a slight jerk on the video, it's do with syncing issues (Neo Geo frame frate of 59.2hz to 60hz). It's smooth when running in MAME provided you select 1.03 or 1.02 MAME Emulation speed (to sync with a 60hz display).

Cosmic Tower - Neo Geo AES/MVS - Homebrew - Work In Progress Phoenix Risen 2014-03-01 | An early unfinished version of Cosmic Tower with rough graphics. Running in MAME32. "Can you climb to the top?" (It's not very hard at the moment. still to add enemies and hazards). It does run smoothly at 60fps, but FRAPS (the recording software) makes it look a bit jerky at times.The golden fountain uses a sprite for every particle, and sprite-scaling to make them grow in size.This is my first program using the Neo Geo Dev Kit (which is based on the NeoBitz dev tools by Jeff Kurtz).

Harry now explodes in a shower of blood and body parts when hit by a rocket. The video also shows how Harry's body can be still be 'trampled' by enemies after he has died. Just to add an element of fun to dying in the game.

Dynamite Dan Gameplay ZX Spectrum (1985) Phoenix Risen 2013-01-24 | Dan must collect 8 sticks of dynamtite and use them to blow up Dr Blitzen's safe and steal the secret plans inside.This is one of the best platform games on the Spectrum. It's clearly inspired by Jet Set Willy but is much more slick and is jammed full of screens and enemies. This was Rod Bowkett's first game, and he learnt Z80 assembly language especially to write this.Enjoy :)

Zarch (1987) Gameplay for BBC Acorn Archimedes High Quality Phoenix Risen 2012-11-29 | One of the most exclusive games ever - Zarch a very early game for the BBC Acorn Archimedes. It was written in only 3 months by Elite-author David Braben. Back in 1987 to play this would have cost you over £1000 that's over £2000 in todays money! Gameplay : The game runs in 256-colour mode (a lot of colours for 1987!) Plays very much like a 3D version of Defender. You have to stop the Blue + White 'Landers' spreading the red virus to the landscape and trees. Some of the airbourne enemies can become 'mutants' too. In case you wonder what i am doing at the end of the 2nd Wave - I am trying to get close to the bomber, it's really hard to get near enough to take a shot, so i just got it into view and used an energy bomb (you get 2 of these). Incidentally this game is *really* hard,Later converted to the other systems in slightly cut-down form under the name Virus. A sequel called V2000 was released in for Playstation and PC in 1998Played on Arculator.

Scythe Lazer Version 0.2 NEW! Phoenix Risen 2012-03-22 | *New* Version 0.2 of Scythe Lazer. Still in early form with temporary graphics, but this version includes:- 2 layer parallax scrolling and a multi-layer starfield. Currently the level just repeats every 2 screens but it can be any size or design I want.- Enemies can now fire at the player, includes homing projectiles and starbursts- Built-in language to describe the alien waves. This is used to describe how the aliens move, when they shoot, what type of projectile they shoot etc. It will make it much easier for me to make the levels with this approach.- more enemy types and their movement can now include acceleration/de-acceleration and curved paths- Sprite-scaling built into alien wave language (only used once in this video on the large yellow circular enemy at the end)- New ripple-missile weapon - looks much better in real life than it does appearing in the video.Still to Do :Collision detetcion not 100% yet, only 1 type of enemy can be shot - need to draw more death animations!Please note : what you see is not the game - just me developing the engine. Still needs a flash of inspiration before it can become a proper game.
