It is my great pleasure to present the new full length album from Dysthymia; the New England-based duo of multi-instrumentalist Ray King (Dzö-nga, Tengger Cavalry, Age of Embers Iblissian) and vocalist Grushenka Ødegård (Mourn the Stars, Dzö-nga).
Long-time followers of the channel will recognise these bands, and the previous Dysthymia releases, which I featured on the release of the self-titled album on Fólkvangr in 2021, and split with Saeva in 2024 which came out through Red Nebula. New full-length, The Morning Darkness, is released in collaboration between Red Nebula and Hypnotic Dirge and its depressive atmosphere is a great fit among several other similarly themed bands on the label.
It is an arresting, enveloping album of five long-form tracks of shivering grey rasping wintery fuzz, with piercing, anguished vocals like a grim pall over the turbulent rippling distorted tides of riffs, in a cold mist that washes over the listener instilling a sense of mournful elation and gloomy euphoria.
