Do you stop at coarse, or use every fine grit available?
You don’t have to use every grit to get a sharp edge. In fact, jumping from 320 straight to ceramic can leave you with a toothy, aggressive edge that chews through rope, cardboard, and tough materials like a beast. (Just be sure to remove the burr!)
But if you want more slice, less tear—refining through the grits gives you a smoother, more controlled cut.
🪓 Coarse: 100–320
🛠 Medium: 400–800
🍴 Fine: Ceramic, leather, strop (1,000+)
💡 The real trick? Match the finish to the job. Experiment and find your favorite edge feel.
