Bisch Basch Bosch | DIY Wood Wax Finish Made With Soy Wax ...Quite Cheap And Vegan! @BischBaschBosch | Uploaded September 2022 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
The go to for wood wax finishes or pastes is bees wax. Turns out Soy wax, a common wax for candles, makes an equally good wood finish, offers good £ savings if making bulk and is a vegan recipe. This should give woodworkers that like to finish their wares in wax an option to supply people who request it, a non animal based wax finish and of course, gives vegan or veggie woodworkers another finishing option.
Soy wax sets slightly different from bees wax and I found the best ratio to be 1:1 (1 part wax, 1 part oil).
The finish doesn't mind being reheated again and again so if you start with 1:1 and want it softer, reheat and add more oil. Want it more solid, reheat and add more wax.
Keep a note of the weights you're adding each time to land on your perfect recipe.
