Hey guys! Last week I showed you how to add texture to your work using 7mm string and tying overhand knots. Please see the description for a link to that tutorial if you’re interested.

This week I’ll be showing you another way to add texture to you work. We will be using cotton frizz, chiffon and sari silk ribbons to add texture. Let’s get started.

My piece is about 4 inches (10cm) wide. I’ll be cutting my ribbons about 20 inches (50cm) long to add them to this piece.

We are going to add the ribbons using a simple weaving method - behind, in front, behind, in front each of the filler cords. I’ll add a cotton frizz ribbon just above the bottom row of double half hitch knots (DHHKs).

I’ll add two rows of cotton frizz ribbon in between the two rows of overhand knots. You can either use two 20 inches pieces of ribbon to create individual rows or one 40 inch piece of ribbon to create two rows are that connected on one side.

Make sure you weave is loose not tight to show more texture/colour and to prevent warping on the sides of your work.

Move the top row of overhand knots down so that we can add ribbon above it.

Pull out the ribbon a bit more if you’d like to see more of the texture/colour. Feel free to leave the extra ribbon on the sides hanging or tuck it into the back of your work and cut off the access.

Use the chiffon ribbon and add two rows using the same sample weave method.

Add two more rows of simple weave using polka dot sari silk ribbon.

Thanks for watching!
