Bettencourt as she “Dishes the Dirt” on how the agency is helping Stovall Farms, the oldest operating farm in Coahoma County, Mississippi get more crop per drop by installing a closed-loop water system to minimize water loss. NRCS provided financial and technical assistance to help Farm Manager Pete Hunter install a series of ditches and pipes to recirculate water, collecting it into a man-made reservoir for use in irrigating crops. This keeps water containing fertilizers from washing into the nearby Harris Bayou and the Mississippi River. It also allows the farm to reuse water, reducing the need to pull from underground water sources.
