This digital model of Eta Carinae was created from hydrodynamic simulations performed on a NASA supercomputer. The gray area shows the dense wind of the primary star. The gold region shows the high-temperature region where the opposing stellar winds interact. The system is shown when the stars are at closest approach (periastron).
