As a Baptist pastor, Ken Hensley held to the idea of "sola Scriptura," that the Bible alone was the sole and sufficient rule of faith in the Christian life.

But as he reflected on the early Church, he began to wonder: if this was the mindset of the first Christians, why weren't they scrambling to get into writing as much material from the apostles as possible while they were still alive?
