A scheme launched eight years ago to help tackle domestic abuse has seen more than 11,500 disclosures made to tell people of their partner’s abusive past.
Our Disclosure Scheme for Domestic Abuse in Scotland (DSDAS) was launched on 1 October 2015, and since then has received over 20,000 requests to ask about the background of a partner.
Of the 20,005 requests received, 11,599 disclosures (58 per cent) have been made to tell individuals their current partner has a violent or abusive past.
