A narrow gauge steam legend returns to Colorado for the first time in 75 years! Denver and Rio Grande Western number 340 is a C-19 class locomotive built in 1881. In 1952, it was sold to Knott's Berry Farm and has been running around the theme park ever since. After years of continuous use, the locomotive was ready for a complete overhaul, so Knott's contracted the Durango and Silverton in 2024 to completely rebuild the engine. Following the rebuild, locomotive 340 operated briefly over its home rails in June of 2026 prior to returning to Southern California. Come along as we explore the history of the locomotive and then see it in action as it pulls its first revenue trains in Colorado since 1951. We'll see the locomotive pass by multiple locations and then climb aboard as it pulls a special photography train up the steep grades of the San Juan Mountains.
