Carelessness or just a badly planned overtake? In any case this is yet another dangerous, pointless and pathetic overtake by a lousy driver. A "close pass" in cycling refers to a dangerous situation where a driver passes a cyclist at a dangerously close distance, potentially causing them to be struck by the vehicle or other objects. The Highway Code recommends leaving at least 1.5 meters of space when overtaking cyclists at speeds up to 30 mph, and more space at higher speeds.
