The Dakar Rally is a test of endurance, skill, and teamwork, and Guy Botterill has shown what it truly means to be a team player. Despite facing a challenging week with a broken differential and a tough marathon stage, Guy has stepped up to support his teammates and keep the team’s goals alive.
Starting strong with a top-five position, Guy’s race took a turn when his car’s rear diff broke, leaving him with only front-wheel drive in the dunes. But true to his fighting spirit, he and co-driver Dennis Murphy dug deep (literally!) to get the car back on track. Though they lost significant time, Guy’s determination and resilience shone through.
Now, with the focus shifted to supporting Hank and the team, Guy has embraced his role as the “fastest water boy in South Africa” – ensuring the team has the spares and support needed to keep pushing for victory. 🛠️
Key Highlights:
Overtaking 100 vehicles in a single stage after starting 147th – a true display of skill and grit.
Patching four tires during the marathon stage to help teammates Saood and Giniel reach the finish.
Keeping the team spirit high, even while shopping for cool drinks and sweets in the service park! 🛒🍫
Guy’s positive attitude and commitment to the team’s success are truly inspiring. As he says, “One day someone might be doing it for me, and that’s what teamwork is all about.”
South Africa, let’s rally behind Guy and the entire team! 🇿🇦 They’re making us proud on the world stage, and every bit of support counts.
