Finally feeling tempted to return to YouTube, somewhat. This composition was a personal challenge for me to try to limit my sound sources to only one synthesizer, in this case, my Proteus/1XR with the rare Protologic board. Full disclosure: the presets were all virtualized by yours truly, but the raw sound is still there.
Hoping people will enjoy. Might consider making a whole original album again based on the idea, depending on how this fares.

It's finally out: the game I spent 3 1/2 years composing for, Brok: The InvestiGator, is finally available to the general public to play, and its music in the process! This celebratory upload is also my first upload of this length after all the years I've been here, admittedly, which goes to show how much music was made for this project.
That said, minor disclaimer: this isn't literally all of the music I ended up making for Brok, but it is the full release for most stores: a literally-complete score is exclusive Steam DLC.
Special thanks to CowCat Games for giving me this opportunity, and to Bryan Olson and Michael Kovak, voice actors for Brok and Graff, for their singing for "Forget With Time"
Finally decided to try to get around to compiling a short demo reel of my music portfolio for Twitter. Half of the pieces are admittedly from the same project (the upcoming Brok: The InvestiGator), but I'm content with it showing some of my capabilities all the same.
Also my first experiment with DaVinci Resolve, though I still used Shotcut for the VHS-style post-processing effect.
Belated upload of music for a game jam that happened last month: GeoJam 2022. Music and a small few SFW were yours truly. As short and limited as the game idea turned out to be (and it ending up in 61st place), it was still a good experience pushing myself to compose and sound design in a short amount of time.
Some original music I made a few months ago intended for a game mod. We'll see if I ever decide to finish that music mod, but enjoy this sampling of it in the meantime.
Decided to release another snippet of the many pieces I made for the game Brok: The InvestiGator. I realize it's been a while since I updated this channel, let alone about this project, but I'm happy to say the project is finally near completion.
New video, and just in time for what's admittedly my 30th birthday. This synthesizer demo covers a rarity I recently got my hands on: an E-mu Proteus 1XR expanded with the Protologic board by InVision Interactive, giving it 128 additional presets (a grand total of 512!) and additional samples that help get it close to the later General MIDI standard.
This video covers every preset from the second bank of 64 presets.
New video for the new year. This synthesizer demo covers a rarity I recently got my hands on: an E-mu Proteus 1XR expanded with the Protologic board by InVision Interactive, giving it 128 additional presets (a grand total of 512!) and additional samples that help get it close to the later General MIDI standard.
This video covers every preset from the first bank of 64 presets. If enough interest is given, I will cover the other half in a later video.
Finally decided to make another set of synthesizer demos. This one entails a recently acquired E-mu Proteus MPS Plus keyboard, best known as the synthesizer used in the music for Myst. To challenge myself, and to help inform others about the sound, I tried to perform as many of the unique presets as I could.
This last video of three covers the last unique ROM bank of presets, exclusive to the MPS Plus and based on the Proteus 2 instruments. With this, all of the unique presets should now be represented: the ROM 4 bank is a duplication of the RAM bank in the MPS Plus.

To challenge myself, and to help inform others about the sound, I tried to perform as many of the unique presets as I could.
This second video of three covers the one RAM bank of presets, also based very loosely on the Proteus 1 soundset. For anyone worried about losing these sounds via reinitialization, it turns out that the MPS Plus has this bank copied verbatim into ROM bank 4, similar to the Proteus XR modules.
Similarly, a heads-up: the final part will seemingly skip a bank number because bank 2 is meant exclusively for memory expansion cards, which, sadly, I don't have on me at this time.

This first video of three covers the first ROM bank of presets, standard for all MPS keyboards to my knowledge. A small few presets are based directly on the Proteus 1, but a large chunk of the presets are unique, in part because the MPS also has internal effect support.
In retrospect, it's mildly similar to my prior upload in theme, but all the same, last week saw a published animation by Brandon Zalar with my music in it! This is the isolated music score from the animation, which can be viewed here:
More filler music while I try to get back into the swing of music making. This particular arrangement I'm proud of in that I added some embellishments instead of simply making it 99% like the original, which I had only found as a piano piece from Bungie's old website. The intro is 100% myself.
First of all, apologies for no uploads for a bit: lack of original musical ideas combined with a strain of my back (which is still on the road to recovery) have prevented me from doing much. As a consolation, enjoy this recreation of music from the second Riddle of the Sphinx game.
Out of desperation for musical ideas (been a bit slow the past month), I rearranged more music from Undertale. All from a single recording of a Kurweil K2000RS.
More original fan music inspired by Myst. In retrospect, the area this was inspired by did have a somewhat-musical ambience already, but I wanted to make it moreso.
While Brok: The InvestiGator is taking off, I decided to break things up by uploading fan music inspired by the first Myst game. Made using recreations of two of the Emu Proteus sounds used in the actual game. Biggest timesink was actually enlarging the screenshots to look adequate quality.
A while back I was exploring the presets of the Korg M1 VST and realized there were quite a few sounds that were used in Thief: The Dark Project, so I felt it best to demonstrate some of them at last for Thief fans.
Per a request to make more Gary Numan covers, I ended up deciding on this for the time being. Might work on more later, but undecided. In the meantime, enjoy this, and early Happy Holidays to all!
A cover version of music from a newer game I recently discovered and enjoyed. I was tempted to resort to my usual retro synth twist, but I decided in the end it would take away from the original intended mood, so I settled for a compromise by using various 90s ROMpler sounds for this arrangement.
It's here: the culmination of nearly two years of my own involvement is finally upon us. This is the music for a just-released trailer for a game I've had the pleasure to make the music for: Brok The InvestiGator! Specific information about the game itself can be found on the official website, but in a nutshell, I'm making the music for a unique hybrid of video game genres: classic Adventure meets Beat 'Em Up!
Ended up deciding to go to a back-to-basics approach with my YouTube uploads and resume making synthesizer demos. These are selected presets from the first non-GM program bank of the Korg X5DR, which I was deeply motivated to acquire recently.
Motivated to make videos for select pieces from a recent album I made rearranging various game music using a specific synthesizer. This particular arrangement was realized using Fairlight CMI samples. Feel free to buy the track below:
A friend who’s big on animation convinced me to try to recreate the theme song from the show that began the Simpsons. It was interesting finding more LinnDrum sounds to use alongside Fairlight samples.
Another cover song. This one saw me experiment a bit with 8Dio's new tenor saxophone sample library toward the end. Singing attempt is available exclusively on my Patreon page.
Motivated to experiment a little more with the Korg Wavestation VST in light of its recent update: everything except a subtle M1 piano/choir sound and the drums are courtesy of the Wavestation.
Ended up discovering a really obscure 80s band recently. Technically, I heard their song "Experiment" before, but only recently have I listened to what there is of the rest of their catalog. This arrangement is partially meant for the fans of the band who, like me, are frustrated by how hard it is to find digital versions of their music in high quality. While this is obviously not the original, hopefully it's close enough for them.
Back to synthesizer demos for me. This new VST that came out from Korg is somewhat special to me in that it's based on my first ever professional synthesizer: the Korg Triton Extreme. My personal review of it can be found on my website: python-blue.com/blog/vst-review-korg-triton
As for the video itself, to save time, I limited the demos to some favorites of the combinations from the internal banks, specifically from the "Pads", "Motion Synth", and "Complex & SE" categories. Kudos to anyone who can recognize sounds and melodies from the adventure game Schizm.Myst III: Exile OST - Atrus Study (Lite Recreation)Python Blue2019-12-25 | Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/Python_Blue Follow me on Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/pythonblue Listen to me on Bandcamp: http://python-blue.bandcamp.com Support me on Patreon: patreon.com/PythonBlue
This video is in many ways, an experiment. On the audio side, it's a partial recreation of one of the pieces for the third Myst game. On the visual side, I decided to try to find ways to make it both interesting and a bit more engaging by adding both an audio visualizer (courtesy of a new video editing program I discovered) and a VHS-like effect. Special thanks to all of my Patreon supporters for giving input as to what they feel would work.
Also included in the video are notes what sounds and samples were used where in the piece. Only a limiter was used for additional effect processing.
Unusual music to rearrange for me: the slightly jazzy twist aside, it's from a really obscure fangame very few are likely to remember, based on the Myst games. And of course, couldn't resist an even more dated twist with the use of an electric grand and a LinnDrum. Also my first experiment with Logic Pro's humanizing functions, so hopefully it sounds marginally more natural insofar as the notes.
Unusual music for me, I know, but I suppose it's good to experiment: a metal-tinged recreation of the theme for MotorCity, as requested by a good friend of mine, with additional extensions based very loosely on the source material.
I had actually finished this piece a while ago: it was intended for a Pixel Mixers compilation for the franchise that, sadly, seems to have since fallen apart, with those who contributed already free to do what they saw fit with their submissions. Naturally, since I haven't uploaded anything here in a while...
