Better late than never perhaps, although had a game of this quality hit the system back in '87 or '88, I think it easily would have helped sell a few 7800s. How Powerful Was The Atari Panther? IratA Non Grata 2025-06-28 | Among the game consoles that Atari never finished and never released, the Panther is perhaps the most infamous of them all. If it wasn't for this system however, the Jaguar wouldn't have existed and the Lynx would have been their last system on the market.H/T to @ctrlaltrees Lost Dragon, and Vince Miazzano for the info; as well as to Curt Vendel (RIP) for all of the work he'd put into revealing details on the system back when he was alive. I meant to post this on June 27th, but editing took too long. All of the music/sounds come from Taito arcade games which used the same sound chip as the Panther would've used, giving you an idea of how it would've sounded in the hands of a capable musician.Graphics wise though, it seems like it wasn't a huge jump up from the Lynx and it certainly lagged behind the Jaguar.

Exploring The Demos Of The Livewire Archival Project IratA Non Grata 2025-04-30 | Livewire is an incomplete, never-released shoot 'em up game for the Atari Jaguar. Had it been finished, it would have been released in 1996 (assuming that the Jaguar had survived that long). The source code was unfortunately lost years ago, but fortuantely @REBOOTPushthebutton has worked with the original author, Doug Little, to present all of the demos that exist for the game with the Livewire Archival Project. Had the game been released, it may have ended up as a fantastic Jaguar exclusive, although it would have needed to land in '94 to have helped keep the Jaguar going a little longer, IMO. #atarijaguar #prototype #videogames

There are a few fun horror games that are found on Atari systems, although one of the best ones is the 7800 exclusive Midnight Mutants. Released on October 31st 1990, this was the last commercial release for the Atari 7800 ProSystem in North America. This is the closest that the system ever got to having a game that is in the vein of the Legend of Zelda or Haunted House, but is not a copy of those games. While I do mention that a music hack of it would be nice, I should have mentioned that this does have the best TIA sound of any commercial 7800 release. Predator, by Rebellion. This was a great game for 1994, although it would soon be surpassed by other games that were fully 3D. DOOM Running On A DVD Player From 2001 (Samsung NUON N-501) IratA Non Grata 2024-09-23 | Coders have shown that DOOM can run on pretty much anything with a screen, and that is no different for a DVD player - although in this case, the DVD player *was* made to play video games. NUON-Enhanced DVD players never caught on, but before they were released, the creators of the NUON chip (VM Labs) created some tech demos to show what the hardware could do. The shareware version of DOOM was ported, not to show off any graphics prowess, but to showcase that PC games could be ported very quickly. What you see here was done over a weekend, which for the late '90s was impressive. That said, it would be great to see someone port the game but actually optimize it for the NUON so that it doesn't run slightly better than MYST does. #doom #nuon #videogames

Exploring The Atari Cosmos [Audio Fixed] IratA Non Grata 2024-09-01 | While it wasn't a game console in the same sense as the Atari 2600, the Atari Cosmos was an interesting attempt by Al Alcorn to compete against Mattel in the handheld LED game space. The advantage that the Cosmos was supposed to have - holograms.
