Warfire
Good RNG on first boss.
updated 6 years ago
This is one of my cleanest fights in a run that was on world record pace. Also, this parse would have been 99k if the last sphere was skipped, which would have been done easily if everyone was alive in execute. Considering that some buffs could have been slightly better (specifically PA, Empower and Major Courage), and the fact that I didn't have any Major Berserk from the atronach synergy, it's safe to say that over 100k ST DPS is possible on this boss.

As far as my role goes, I was the only healer except for Lokkestiiz while debuffing the boss with Elemental drain + Minor breach and Off balance and providing the damage dealers with Minor berserk and Major courage.

I was in a bow-bow setup because I had to kill Orbs and Creepers while the rest of the group focuses on killing the Z'Maja, Siroria and Relequen. There were 6 DDs in melee 2Hander setups (a lot of cleave damage and the usage of Brawler which diminished the number of RNG deaths significantly) and 2 DDs in bow-bow setups (for the reason I stated above). Every DD was a Stamina Necromancer.

Build: http://prntscr.com/nuizvv
This video is made to showcase the potential of a Stamina Dragonknight bow+bow build in Elsweyr.
I have used the Max stam + Max stam recovery food to showcase the DPS potential of having this amount of Stamina, because in most trial situations we are able to use the Max health + Max stam food (which has the same amount of Stam as the one I used in the video) and sustain perfectly fine, even without the recovery bonus. Of course, there are some situations where the fight is too long (it gets difficult to sustain after 2 minutes) and in those specific cases, I would use Dubious Camoran Throne/Artaeum Takeaway Broth, which will lower our overall DPS by a very small amount.
Why am I using 2 bows and not dual Wield+bow?
Even though I spent the entire time in melee, this build has the advantage of going in range at any given moment to execute mechanics that punish melee players; being able to use Lethal Arrow at any given time makes it especially desirable in content like vAS, vCR or vSS (it can be used anywhere, it's just that these 3 specific trials have a lot of movement involved).
Compared to a traditional dual wield+bow setup where we use Rapid Strikes as spammable instead of Lethal Arrow, in the exact same conditions, bow+bow performed about 1-2k worse than dual wield+bow. However, if someone in your group uses Morag Tong, then this setup will perform evenly compared to its dual wield counterpart (I am assuming Morag Tong benefits both the dual wield player as well as the bow one).
Rotation wise, the goal is to keep our DoTs up, keep the 3 stacks of Seething Fury permanently up and cast Lethal Arrow whenever you don't have to refresh anything. I have made a few rules that should make it easier to understand what I mean here:
- you can use 3 abilities inbetween refreshing the Seething Fury stacks (here I am referring to NON Ardent flame abilities, because using those would automatically refresh the stacks), however if you wish to cast Lethal Arrow, I found it impossible to do 3 consecutive casts of it and be able to refresh Seething Fury before it runs out, so you can do 2 Lethal Arrow casts maximum before refreshing the stacks, paired with another skill (like Rearming Trap)
- if all your DoTs are still running but you need to refresh Seething Fury, always use Noxious Breath as it has great initial damage and it performs very close to most spammables
- before going to the backbar, always refresh Seething Fury (so you can do your 3 backbar skills, come back to the frontbar and have time to refresh it again)
Because we are using Bloodthirsty on our jewelry, it is important to have our Standard of Might ready at 25% or below. For example, if your Standard is fully charged at 35% of boss' HP, do NOT use it until it reaches 25% (which should happen in relatively 10-20 seconds depending on the boss fight). Every boss has different HP so it all depends on the length of the fight, if you are to fight Saint Olms for example, it is perfectly fine to drop Standard at 35% as you will most likely get another one before it dies, thus being able to use your ultimate more frequently and have it up in execute as well.

The purpose of this video is to showcase two things: gameplay and build of a stamina character used in vAS HM and, at the same time, to debunk the "theory" that if you are a stamina character, you will die frequently or pull lower DPS, in comparison to your Magblade DDs.
1) What I used:
Build: http://prntscr.com/lz3zmj (Hundings/WM instead of VO; Leviathan on frontbar should be better than AY)
Combat metrics: http://prntscr.com/lz3zvd
Obviously, I had different occasions within the fight where I did a few bad Incaps, I've been hit by quite a lot of maims that resulted in 13% maim uptime (which reduces your damage by 50% for ~12 seconds, a huge DPS debuff that you get from any of Felms' attacks). Further to this, my DPS dropped in execute because the boss got shielded on less than 1% HP and in general, you can always do better. My point here is, it's safe to say that, comparing stamblade to magblade, if someone can play them equally good, the difference between them is probably somewhere around 1-3k DPS, which is really minimal and should not affect the people that this video is aimed at (that is again, players who only wish for clears of AS HM or even attempting to get Immortal Redeemer).
2) So besides DPS, how do I manage survivability as a stamina DD?
I didn't have much time to experiment, if you check out my video back from April (youtube.com/watch?v=7sbcXw0pFm0), there are quite a few differences. Truth is, in that video I picked some abilities that I thought would work out in the best way, which was not the case. I had around 1 hour time to test different combinations of abilities now and the skill bars that I used here were the most effective. First of all, Bone Shield was removed because even though a shield has its perks, I found it to drain a lot of resources and not give back much benefit in comparison to the cost.
Deadly Cloak is the preferred ability to obtain Major Evasion from because it gives you a few more hundreds of DPS on the boss. I simply chose to use Mirage because I wanted to showcase a safer version. This is because Mirage last longer compared to Deadly Cloak so you need to cast it less than Deadly Cloak to maintain Major Evasion and it also provides a small resistance buff. Either Mirage or Deadly Cloak alongside Vigor is a must setup for survivability. If you watch the entire gameplay, this combination was enough to save me from any kind of mechanics or even worse, stacking mechanics.
For example, if you look at 6:28 in this video, I had one of the worst mechanical situations that can happen to a player in vAS HM. I had the Cone mechanic on me during the Storm mechanic, as a result I had to be careful to not move the Cone at all sideways and just move within its length while surviving both mechanics at the same time without a shield. Looking back, I even forgot to recast Mirage before the Storm and casted it while I was taking damage, even then It was not enough to kill me.
The Jump mechanic that Olms does at 90%, 75%, 50% and 25% was hardly dealing any damage when I was blocking with Mirage active, so a cast of Vigor during the Jump would always keep me at a very high % of my health. I'm certain that even if I had a Cone during the Jumps, I would have been able to survive them with Mirage+Vigor active while blocking.
I would say that the only combinations of mechanics that can kill you is the Fire mechanic (from Olms, in execute) combined with the Cone mechanic (from Llothis) - however, that highly depends to where you are positioned when the Fire happens, so prepositioning yourself in a place where the Fire deals a minimum amount of damage plays an important part. This combination happens pretty rarely and you can consider yourself unlucky if you are in a bad spot when the Cone targets you during fire. Keep in mind that this is not a stamina exclusive problem, a Magicka DD's shield would 100% not be enough to absorb the damage from both the Fire and the Cone, depending on which position of fire you stand in, so it's a general issue on both of setups that you need to be aware of.
In conclusion, if you are a raid leader, try to assess the skill level of everyone, let them play on a stamina DD for a few raids if they wish to - if their survivability and DPS are comparably way worse to someone who plays a Magicka DD, then it's in the best interest of the group for them to swap to a meta vAS setup, Magicka Nightblade.

Really unlucky Pinnacle factotum fight, a lot of RNG made us move in and out and lost quite a lot of DPS on him, extending the fight time by aprox. 12 seconds than our average time.

To be honest it was a pretty sloppy fight compared to others that I had, a lot of light attack missed, AoEs placed badly and a lot of safe play (block casts for nearly every cone as well as not reapplying AoEs on CD in storm) but it turned out to be a pretty good parse and fight overall.

What ultimate do I use if my bear keeps dying?
In that case, use Ballista on the backbar while having slotted Flawless Dawnbreaker on the frontbar for the wpn dmg passive.
What weapon combination should I use?
The best weapon combination will always be, for all stamina classes, 2 daggers. Acuity was an exception because by having 100% crit chance when it was active, the crit bonus from your daggers was nullified. As long as we are under 85-90% crit chance, 2 daggers will always outperform other weapon combinations.
What traits should I use for jewelry?
I tried all the possible combinations between Robust-Infused-Bloodthirsty and I found that having 3 bloodthirsty is the best combination currently; 3 infused was not far in terms of numbers, and the combination of 2 infused+1 bloodthirsty had the same results as 3 infused.
What other combinations can I use if I don't have Relequen?
Advancing Yokeda frontbar + Hundings on body is a good combination. Also, if the group lacks penetration (lack of Alkosh, crusher enchantment etc) then Advancing Yokeda frontbar + Twice Fanged Serpent body is another good combination.
Notes:
-CP is optimised for trials where Alkosh is used and there is Torugs-Infused Crusher enchantment and Minor fracture is applied (Power of the light from a templar, Sunderflame set or alchemical poisons)
-Lover mundus stone is now needed to reach the penetration cap
-Redguard is still the best race, though I'd say Khajit is closer now since Acuity is no longer used and the crit chance from Khajit is useful again

ROTATION:
LA=Light attack
HA=Heavy attack
1)Burst rotation
(Prebuff with Flames of Oblivion)
Trap --- BARSWAP --- LA - Endless hail - LA - Razor caltrops - LA - Poison injection --- BARSWAP --- LA - Venomous claw - LA - Noxious breath - LA - Blood craze - LA - Crushing weapon (until Endless hail reaches 1s, then LA-Trap ---BARSWAP and restart again)
Notes:
- use Standard whenever you have it (I use the first one in the second rotation so I get back some resources)
- if your stamina drops below 40% and you have a long cooldown on the potion, then start doing 1 or 2 HA per rotation until you get the potion
- you can use Flames of Oblivion for every backbar rotation, i prefered to always swap back to my backbar during my frontbar rotation and recast it, then switch back to frontbar and continue from where I left so I don't overlap Flames of Oblivion uptime, though the difference is really minimal
2)Sustainable rotation
(Prebuff with Molten armaments and Flames of oblivion)
Trap --- BARSWAP --- Endless hail - Razor caltrops - Poison injection ---BARSWAP --- LA - Venomous claw - LA - Noxious breath - LA - Blood craze - LA - Trap - LA - Deadly cloak ---BARSWAP--- LA - Endless hail - LA - Razor Caltrops - LA - Poison injection - LA - Flames of Oblivion - LA - Standard ---BARSWAP--- LA - Venomous claw - LA - Noxious - LA - Blood craze - HA - Trap - HA - Deadly ---BARSWAP
Notes:
-this is a much easier rotation, using always Flames of Oblivion on every rotation
-the first rotation has only LA so we can apply dots and then use Standard, empowering both our backbar dots and our frontbar dots
-the amount of LAs and HAs done in a frontbar rotation here depends fully on what you do on the backbar; a very easy way to understand it and do it ideally is this: if on the backbar you will only do 4 skills, then in that rotation on the frontbar you will do 2 LAs and 3 HAs, if on the backbar you use 5 skills then in that rotation on the frontbar you will do 3 LAs and 2HAs, and if on the backbar you use all 6 skills, the on the frontbar you will do 4 LAs and 1HA (make sure to always LA before Venomous claw since it is by far the best DoT in your rotation and you want to make sure it is ticking as much as possible)
-use Molten armaments everytime after it expired
Why are there 2 different rotations?
The first rotation is the one with the highest potential DPS, which is only beneficial in fights that would take around 2 minutes at maximum; it is more effective when you can sustain a rotation where you apply your frontbar dots and then you can just spam light attacks and Crushing Weapon. If the fight would take longer (for example Rakkhat from Maw of Lorkhaj, The Mage from Aetherian Archive etc), then the second rotation is better to use, as you will have more banners (ultimate) to use, which increase your DPS gradually; also, the second rotation uses quite a lot of heavy attacks, which makes it impossible to remain out of stamina.

Song: Lana Del Rey - Flipside (Illenium Remix)
Why no Acuity?
Mechanical Acuity set became very unreliable to use after it got nerfed to proc only from direct damage sources, making it impossible to sync your ultimate and your Acuity. Instead, we are going to be using Advancing Yokeda, a set that gives crit chance permanently as long as you keep its stacks up, which is fairly easily to do.
Why use trap frontbar?
Simply to have only 3 skills used on the backbar instead of 4 so we guarantee that the stacks of Advancing Yokeda don't fall off; you will only use 4 skills when you want to use Leeching strikes/Incapacitating strike.
What weapon combination should I use?
The best weapon combination will always be, for all stamina classes, 2 daggers. What other combinations can I use?
Ravager frontbar + Relequen on body seems to be a combination that is very close to this one, ~1000 DPS less at most. Also, Briarheart frontbar + Relequen on body is another strong combination.
What do I do against specific encounters, like Assembly general in vHoF or Twins in vMoL?
I am not 100% sure yet since I haven't been there on PTS to test, but most likely we will have to switch Relequen for War Machine on body, since we won't be able to keep Relequen up.
Why Selene and not Velidreth?
At the moment, Selene is procing more because of Relequen, making it more DPS overall. If this will be changed or if you are fighting one of the bosses that have a big hitbox (Mantikora, Stonebreaker, Stone Atronach, Varlariel, Ra Kotu) then Velidreth will be the best choice.
Notes:
-CP is optimised for trials where Alkosh is used and there is Torugs-Infused Crusher enchantment and Minor fracture is applied (Power of the light from a templar, Sunderflame set or alchemical poisons)
-If you can't sustain a full light attack rotation start using Leeching strikes every time you get below 60% of your Max stamina; if that is not enough, use Stormfist
-Lover mundus stone is now needed to reach the penetration cap
-Redguard is still the best race, though I'd say Khajit is closer now since Acuity is no longer used and the crit chance from Khajit is useful again
-Blue food (Max health+Max stamina) is sustainable with enough casts of Leeching strikes and a few orbs from your healer to do a full Light attack rotation, do not use dubious as you'll decrease your Max stamina stat and every attack that you do will scale down
