Bye Bye Power Hack G4 Quicksilver ItsMyNaturalColour 2020-07-08 | 3 months ago, I decided to stop using the Hackintosh as my main machine in order to work on upgrading and updating it. My plan was to purchase a new GPU, new SSDs and install Catalina. I've been experimenting with a spare SSD, OpenCore and Catalina, and haven't managed to get a stable machine up and running. I can install the OS just fine, but there's always some little hiccup in the system. While this has been going on, I've been successfully using my Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro as my main machine for all of my tasks, including video editing some fairly heavy projects for IMNC. It's opened my eyes to the fact that I can happily continue to do this, and that I don't need to put any further money into the Hackintosh. By selling Power Hack G4, I can get a good chunk of money in to improve the channel in some other way. I'm currently looking at upgrading my main camera and audio solution. I can continue to use my rMBP for the time being, until the Apple Silicon Macs are revealed and released. I'm planning on purchasing an Apple Silicon desktop Mac fairly soon after they're released. It's very difficult to say goodbye to this machine, because it is a truly unique and one of a kind system, that I put my heart and soul into back in 2015. I see Power Hack G4 as a huge achievement, and one of the biggest and coolest projects we've ever completed on IMNC... but... it makes more sense to move on than it does to try and keep it around. Network Rack Cooling Upgrade ItsMyNaturalColour 2020-07-04 | We've been having some quite warm weather recently, and the temperature of both my office and network rack has been pretty toasty. After the cooling upgrades installed during Part 7 of the networking series, I'm now able to close my network cabinet door, but I wanted to add a little extra cooling capacity for those very hot days. I decided to install a 1U temperature controlled fan unit to work alongside the additional cooling when extra airflow is needed. The panels are:"712477 Intellinet 19IN CABLE ENTRY PANEL"I purchased mine via an eBay listing, but a Google of that model will reveal several websites selling the same product. For the blanking plates, I searched 'grey 1U blank' on eBay and bought the cheapest ones.*NO THE COLOUR IS NOT THE SAME* - UniFi gear is relatively shiny aluminium, these panels are painted flat grey steel, specifically RAL 7035. Setting Up Our Home Network (Part 7) - Bringing It All Together ItsMyNaturalColour 2020-05-23 | After 4 years of gradually building up my home network, it's finally time to bring it all together and finish it off. Things worked fine, but it turns out the LED strip I ordered wasn't true white. It was simply an RGB strip with all colours set to max, giving a nasty purplish / blueish off white. CEX is generally cheaper than eBay, but the major advantage with an eBay auction is the ability to see photos of the exact game you're getting, making judging the condition of the box very easy. Fan Replacement - Showtec 1W RGB LED PAR64 Long Nose ItsMyNaturalColour 2020-01-11 | These were the first ever LED lighting fixtures I used. All 12 units that were originally purchased approximately 12 years ago are still fully functioning and used every single day at our venue. A little while ago, one of the units started to make a growling sound. I knew that the fans in all of these would be about toast, so I've begun the mission to swap the fans and clean all 12 fixtures. The one in this video is completely done and comfortably back on the rig. Another, shown at the end of the video, is now awaiting treatment. Apple TV HD 32GB Unboxing, Setup & Logitech Harmony Config ItsMyNaturalColour 2019-11-09 | For a little while we've been lacking a good central hub for all of our media needs. We've been using our 2nd generation Apple TV less and less due to lack of support and increased use of the Xbox One has been fine but not ideal. With some birthday money, I treaded myself to the Apple TV HD 32GB (4th gen Apple TV). This will now be a central hub for music, movies and TV in our living room.
