During this competition, husbands have to carry their wives along the track with various obstacles.The track is 250 m long and features several obstacles on land and a 1-m deep water pool. According to the rules, the participants can carry their wives or the neighbours.The wife should be at least 17 years old and weight minimum 49 kilos. If the wife is lighter, she should carry an additional rucksack. There are different types of carrying: piggyback, over the shoulder, or Estonian-style when a wife hangs upside-down with the legs around her husband's shoulders and holds his waist.The only equipment is a helmet and a belt. Cheese Rolling Explainer 😃 Mr Lowe + 2024-02-03 | What is Cheese Rolling ? Cheese-Rolling is an annual event held on the Spring Bank Holiday at Cooper's Hill, near Gloucester in England. Participants race down the 200-yard or 180 meter long hill after a round of Double Gloucester cheese is sent rolling down it. This ceremony originally took place each Whit Monday, but was later moved to the Spring Bank Holiday. The first written evidence of cheese rolling is found in a message written to the Gloucester town crier in 1826 even then it was apparent that the event was an old tradition, and it is believed to be at least six hundred years old. The cheese currently used in the event is 9 pound or 4-kilogram Double Gloucester, a hard cheese traditionally made in a circular shape. Each is protected for the rolling by a wooden casing round the side, and is decorated with ribbons at the start of the race. Formerly, three cheeses were presented by parishioners, and the cheeses were usually rolled by them. A collection is usually made now to purchase them, as well as sweets, and also to provide prize money. Due to the steepness and uneven surface of Cooper's Hill, there are usually a number of injuries each year. A first aid service is provided by the local Saint John Ambulance from the Gloucester Divisions at the bottom of the hill. Members of the local rugby club volunteer their services by acting as catchers for any participants who lose their balance and also are on hand to carry down any casualties requiring first aid who do not reach the bottom. The Champ Chris Anderson is a groundworker and a British Army veteran, best known for winning the annual cheeserolling at Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire a record 23 times. Anderson first competed in the annual cheese rolling in 2004 at the age of 17 and came second. He won his first race in 2005 and beat the record. Anderson believes that the secret to winning the cheese rolling is to stay on your feet and not fall over. The objective is for the male to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time. The sport was first introduced at Sonkajärvi, Finland.Eukonkanto originated in Finland. Tales have been passed down of a man named Herkko Rosvo-Ronkainen (aka Ronkainen the Robber. This man was thought to be a robber in the late 1800s who lived in a forest. He supposedly ran around with his gang of thieves causing harm to villagers. From what has been found, there are three ideas as to why/how this sport was invented. Firstly, that Rosvo-Ronkainen and his thieves were accused of stealing food and abducting women from villages in the area he lived in, then carrying these women on their backs as they ran away (hence the "wife" or woman carrying). The second suggestion is that young men would go to neighbouring villages, and abduct women to forcibly marry, often women who were already married. These wives were also carried on the backs of the young men; this was referred to as “the practice of wife stealing". Lastly, is the idea that Rosvo-Ronkainen trained his thieves to be "faster and stronger" by carrying big, heavy sacks on their backs, from which this sport evolved. He comes from Brockworth, the village in Gloucestershire at the foot of Cooper's Hill, venue for the cheese rolling races.Anderson first competed in the annual cheese rolling in 2004 at the age of 17 and came second. He won his first race in 2005 and beat the record, held by Stephen Gyde, in 2018. In his 14 years of competition he has suffered a broken ankle, concussion, a torn calf muscle and bruised kidneys.Despite taking home 23 Double Gloucester cheeses, he only likes cheddar. Most competitors enter for the entertainment value, and the flying machines rarely fly at all.The format was originally invented in Selsey, a small seaside town in the south of England under the name "Birdman Rally" in 1971. The first Red Bull Flugtag competition was held in 1991 in Vienna, Austria. It was such a success that it has been held every year since and in over 35 cities all over the world. Anyone is eligible to compete in the Flugtag event. To participate, each team must submit an application and their contraption must meet the criteria set forth by Red Bull. The criteria vary with location. In the United States each flying machine must have a maximum wingspan of 30 feet (9.1 m) and a maximum weight (including pilot) of 450 pounds (200 kg). In Australian Flugtags the wingspan is limited to 8 metres (26 ft) and the weight (not including pilot) to 180 kilograms (400 lb). The craft must be powered by muscle, gravity, and imagination. Because the aircraft will ultimately end up in the water, it must be unsinkable and constructed entirely of environmentally friendly materials. Best Of Death Diving ( Døds Championship Denmark ) Mr Lowe + 2022-05-11 | Døds Challenge Aarhus Death Diving, or Døds in Norwegian, is an amateur diving belly flop jumping competition managed by Det Internasjonale Dødseforbundet (The International Døds Federation). The World Championship is performed from a platform of 10-14 meters in height. There are separate competitions for Classic and Freestyle. In the Classic event, competitors are to fly horizontally with their arms and legs extended until they hit the water. The current world record in the Classic event for women is at 20,4 meters set by Norwegian Asbjørg Nesje. Competitors curl into a fetal position just before entering the water, landing first with their feet and hands or knees and elbows to avoid serious injury; dives are judged on how long the diver holds the original pose. In Freestyle Døds, the competitors do various tricks during the air travel, hence the name. The sport is not registered as a discipline in the Norwegian Swimming Federation.
