A Gallant Gentlemen, the opening track from We Lost The Sea’s third and most adventurous record to date, is a slowly building piece that gives you a just a glimpse of the tumultuous journey to follow. This is the perfect gateway to the heart wrenching ‘Departure Songs.’ The tracks tells the story of Lawrence Oates, an army captain and explorer who walked off into the freezing Antarctic night on a expedition gone wrong, in an attempt to give his life to save the rest of his team. He knew he had become a burden on his friends. He knew their chances of survival would improve without him. So off he walked, alone, into oblivion. An opening track to a record that is steeped so much in the ideas of life, death and hope.
All music written and composed by We Lost The Sea. The title of this song is named after a painting by John Charles Dollman. Choir section composed and arranged by We Lost The Sea and the Mercy College Choir.

Tickets from http://welostthesea.comWe Lost The Sea - A Beautiful Collapse (Official Video)We Lost The Sea2019-08-16 | The second track on the album, A Beautiful Collapse, picks up at the very end of our human story. When we’ve failed for too long, and chosen to ignore science and the planet’s own desperate cries, we’ve hit the tipping point. The view of the universe who watches back in on itself as we appear and disappear as a tiny blip on the cosmic radar. Or maybe it’s from the viewpoint of a particularly nonchalant omnipotent being who watches from afar with a morbid curiosity as the last death throes of humanity shudder one last time. Destruction as a form of creation. A Beautiful Collapse.
The video for A Beautiful Collapse is really different for We Lost The Sea. I also think the song is quite different for us too, compared to our back catalogue. It seems to have ended up with us making a statement of some kind. It was interesting to see someone else's take on the theme for this song. It follows a loose narrative showing our colourful and safe past that then moves on to a bleak and violent future.
The use of archival footage to tell a story was a way of referencing our common past to talk about what we have or are leaving behind. Other people's stories stitched together to create a collective narrative about our history and possible future. Also it's free to use, so that helps!
The idea behind using quotes from writers and thinkers, most of whom are dead, ties back into that human story. It's like little flashes of truths told by great minds that we should learn from. Things that have already been said that already predict or sum up so many relevant and current elements. A collective story of us that runs along with the song that tells of a foreshadowing, a collapse. How beautiful the things we make that we leave behind.
Are we intentionally ignoring their beauty in order to feel ok about moving on? A swing set, a colourful front door, children's toys, books, decorative cutlery, machine engines, art or anything handmade. Look at what we've accomplished, it's utterly amazing when you think about it. Now look at it all fade "buried under the dust and crying in silence like the ghosts of history."

Triumph & Disaster is a post-apocalyptic view on the collapse of the world told like a children’s story and illustrated through the eyes of a mother and her son as they spend one last day on Earth. We’re beyond proud, excited and exhausted to present you the first track from it ’Towers’ which summarizes all of those emotions in one song. Representing the beginning and the end of everything, it is about giant oppressive forces and feelings, the towering juggernaut of power, failure, history and death.

This is a live recording of our first ever overseas show at Dunk!Fest in Zottegem, Belgium in June 2017 where we played Departure Songs in full. A show we almost missed after blowing out two tyres on our gear trailer somewhere on the side of a German motorway.
This is an energetic and visceral rendition of Departure Songs by a band who were excited to be in Europe on a big stage.
This 180gm double vinyl is being released through WLTS and Bird’s Robe Records (AUS/Asia) Dunk!Records (EU) and Translation Loss Records (US). Each label will have their own exclusive colour variant. Artwork by Error Design.

We finished up our tour in Paris on the 14th of June last year. Here’s a bunch of videos from our phones cut together over ‘Head Rush’ by Meniscus. Every time we hear this song it reminds us of these times and that we had to get ready to go on stage soon after. We spent a lot of time on a bus driving, sweating, drinking and laughing. We also met some amazing people, played some of the best shows of our lives and made friends for life. Hopefully we get to do this all over again soon.
Thanks to all our fans and brothers and sisters in Meniscus and Dumbsaint for making this an unforgettable experience.

Join us as we finish up the year with a small run of shows to celebrate the 5th anniversary of our second record The Quietest Place on Earth. We’ve had a pretty massive year and have returned back from our first European tour inspired and motivated to get to work on album number 4. Before we do, we’re going to wrap up 2017 with some shows in honour of this record that really helped define us as a band and our sound. And of course to celebrate Chris, whose influence on this album was huge and a stark reminder of the talent that was lost. We rarely play these songs so it’s going to be a emotional but awesome time to be playing these for you (and us)
We’ll be joined by longtime friend, Jarrod Krafczyk on vocal duties and Brendon Warner will be back on 3rd guitar for this tour and we’ll be playing a mix of songs from all our records, which seems fitting. These will be our last shows for the year before we go into hiding and working on the next album, hopefully to be released next year.
Thanks for your support. It’s a been a massive 2 years since we released Departure Songs, and we’re about to start it all over again. We couldn’t do it without you.

Jumping fences and 5am finishes, spiders, leeches, warehouses and an email word count of pleases and thank yous that will remain unspoken. The We Lost The Sea Barkhan Charge video is finally finished. A very large thank to everyone involved. This is dedicated to Chris Torpy, rest in peace brother.

Lyrics --------
HERE WE ARE. WE GIANTS SWIM, BETWEEN THE EYES OF THE DEEP. OUR SPIRITS COLLIDE, INTERTWINED. HIS RIGHT-HAND MAN, AN EMPTY VESSEL. A TROOPER IN COMMAND, KNOW NOTHING BUT TO SERVE. A TEN THOUSAND YEAR MARCH. WHERE WILL WE SLEEP, WHEN WILL WE SLEEP? IN THE SOIL WE LIE. DENSE, WITH FEAR. IN THE SOIL WE LIE. IN THE SOIL WE LIE, NUMB AND DEPRIVED, NO STRUCTURE BINDS US. AWAITING THE SMILE OF A KING, A PASSING GLIMPSE OF NIGHT AND DAY, GIVES US A SIGN, WE MUST PREVAIL. HOLDING ON. NO MAN OR BEAST WILL SLOW US ON OUR CLIMB, HOLDING ON. ONWARD AWAY FROM VIOLENT BIRTH, INTO ANOTHER REALM. MOVING ON. (I GUESS I'M MOVING ON)A tribute to Chris TorpyWe Lost The Sea2013-04-01 | In early March 2013, our brother, singer and best friend, Chris Torpy, took his own life. We cannot adequately express the loss, and the hurt we felt. And in no way ever presume to understand what his family are going through right now.
Chris was the soul of the band from the very begin, he was a true artist, an amazing lyricist and the best vocalist I have ever seen. He was genuine and loved his friends, he was a better friend to any of us than we deserved, and he was always the first to reach out to people who were hurting. He struggled with his demons for a long time, he used music as a way to exorcise them, sometimes we could really hear the pain and fury in his voice at practise or at a show. He always lived life to the fullest and pushed the boundaries of his own existence. These words feel cheap, and don't in anyway do his remarkable, although short, life justice. He will be missed by many, but never forgotten. We Lost The Sea are blessed to have his talent and his voice recorded for us to always remember him as he was, for who he was.
If anyone is struggling with life, or everything just seems too much. Please reach out to someone. Contact Beyond Blue, talk to a friend, talk to a parent, TALK TO US. Please don't think that you are alone.
We'd like to thank everyone for the support and love we have received already. It means a lot to us. If anyone has anything the would like us to pass on to his family, please email us at welostthesea@gmail.com.
This is a message from his family:
To our wonderful family and friends. To Chris' extended family of friends and his band of brothers that are WLTS. To friends in the music community and to all of you that have known and loved Chris and have reached out to us from all over the world with your messages of love and support.......Thank you.
We cannot begin to put into words how crushed we are at the loss of our beautiful son and brother and really do not know where to begin to go on. Your thoughtful messages and acts of kindness are giving us the strength to put one foot in front of the other and at the moment this is all we can hope to do.
Matt Harvey of WLTS has made a beautiful montage in memory of Chris which was viewed at the service. We would like to share these memories with those of you that we're unable to see this at the ceremony.
With love and appreciation, Rick and Maree Torpy and Family
