It takes heavy influence from Picopop and Shibuya-kei, mainly on acts such as Capsule and COPTER4016882.I was conceptualizing this idea as early as 2020 with my dear friend Luok, guy behind beepbox classic Dr. Worm (soundcloud.com/lukeke_song/dr-worm-mmc5). Our idea was a café themed album where each hour corresponded to an hour of the day. I started making songs for this in mid to late 2020, during my Shibuya-kei obsession peak, with its lounge inspired compositions and toy-like instrumentation. In 2021 Devious and I started working on a little jazz song. It eventually reached (nearly) 7 minutes in lenght and became my longest song (for a while, disconsidering the megalovania remix). This song became the album's titular song. Holidays, summer and the imminent Christmas party all bring me excitement and something to look foward to. With the idea of Christmas specials of random things in my mind, I thought: why not make a quick festive extended play? My idea wasn't that it would turn out to be the most polished project ever, and I aimed for maybe 3 tracks at first. However, the Christmas spirit possessed my body in the form of a temporary inhuman ability to create music under the condition that it had to sound completely jolly. The result were 24 minutes of sweet tunes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!In some of the tracks (1, 2, 3, 4) I decided to return to JummBox, which means no usage of recorded samples, only digital synthesis! I used a mixture of additive, FM and spectrum synthesis. This forced me to focus on using the textures provided by the tools available in ways that resulted in a full-sounding mix. It was very fun, if challenging at times. Turns out BeepBox's default tools are still quite powerful. Being invested in synthesis and having a background of working with electronics, he was quick to pick up on new technologies as they came out, being one of the first owners of the Roland MC-8. His favourite fungi is Matsutake. He would often work in collaboration with David Wojciechowski and Victor Fritzsche as computer and synth programmer, even participating in a band with all three.Leopold Põldma (b. 24 October 1945), is a pine marten, composer, guitarrist and bassist from Estonia. During the mid-60s, he worked creating easy listening songs, but eventually found his love on modular synths, tape recorders and early sample-based music, which rendered his works from this period as ahead of its time. In the late 70s his music would start to mixture experimental elements with pop and funk. His favourite soup is cabbage. It's unknown what the songs mean in relation to the art exhibit, but the most important part was answered. When asked, they said that they had fun making it and then ran away laughing.

Unlike the likes of Gato, it features heavy use of digital samplers and synthesizers and sequencers, notably being one of the first uses of the iconic metal pipe sound ever. It features guitars from Victor Fritzsche and Leopold Põldma—also known as Loopy Leopold—and the programming help from electronic musician Torahiko Inoue. It was recorded through the year of 1986. The idea for this album came during a trip to Japan in June 1985. David bought a vinyl from a shop of I REIN FOR REIN's Plastic Generation and was enchanted by its melancholic, cold, digital synth sounds, as well as its metal pipe samples. He came back to the UK and started playing around with the stupid expensive synthesizers that he impulsively accumulated over the years. Among the gear that is used on the album are the Roland CR78, TR-707, TR-808 and Linn 9000 drum machines, the Roland MC-500 sequencer, a couple of analog synths, a metal pipe and a wonderful computer with software capable of anything the musician’s mind desired. It's a pretty Roland heavy record and the album stands out on how it heavily uses MIDI and programmed lines, making it deliberately feel much more robotic. David says this is either what music might sound like in 2000 years, or maybe just 2020.He needed help from a few friends. Leopold Loop is a pine weasel from Estonia and composer who specialized in easy listening and orchestral pieces who eventually found his love in guitars, modular synths, tape samplers and avant garde music. Torahiko is a tiger from Japan, long friend of Leo and electronic musician who has been working with synthesizers before David, and has a lot of expertise on the technical side. People keep making jokes about him and calling him "Terry the Tiger" which makes his life very miserable. Both of them have even partaken in a band with David and Victor in the mid-80s. The album was released by Blockyeen Records on 1 November 1986. To clarify, Blockyeen is an entertainment company from the UK. The logo from the beginning comes from Blockyeen's television channel during the mid-80s and may look horribly 80s to some. Victor Fritzsche - Heatwave nobonoko 2024-10-19 | Victor Fritzsche - Heatwave (1976)Released in October 1976 under BLOCKYEEN Records, this is notable for being the first time Victor Fritzsche and David Wojciechowski collaborated in a song. Victor's main gig was working on making music and sounds for television and radio, eventually working for BLOCKYEEN Entretainment and creating library music, as well as other things. In parallel, David was studying music composition in the UK, but he had his eye on synthesizers. His love for the electronic would blossom as he experimented with modular and semi-modular gear such as the Roland 100M.One faithful day, at some café near the WC2 area in London, David and Victor, who were only 19 and 22 at the time, met up by chance. David recieved his rather tasteless croissaint and it somehow triggered a conversation relevant to music. Victor was in need of a spicy and otherworldly sound for a song he was tasked to produce, and David brought up his knowledge synthesizers...and that is how David was invited to help with synth work for this very song, starting a bond that would last several decades. They have some really interesting and cool-looking videos and art. I was especially fascinated by the doodles they made with the Sony HB-B7000 and Apple Fantavision. Those gave me the idea of making art under some kind of limitation. This was basically a proof-of-concept for myself, to show that I can still create something cool with BORING software.The visual assets were made in a 256x224 canvas and then assembled with a gif converter and Sony Vegas. I mainly tried to use pre-made tiles, with some occasional free-hand lines to craft the visuals. nobonoko - Looney Tunes Telephone Line [MV] nobonoko 2024-06-27 | To make up for the lack of uploads this past week, I decided to dig this from my other, half-working computer. A silly music video for an unorthodox song made by mashing clips together playing around with effects.I don't remember how I came up with this song, but I think at the time I was listening to a few songs from Tom & Jerry (4hero). They were a duo that made sample-heavy Jungle music in the mid-90s. Compared to my usual songs, this one is more fast paced, less cutesy and has more focus on the rhythm than the harmony. It's overall not a very sample-heavy song. The bass and analog sounding arpeggios are an FM synth with a filter that opens and closes. The chords are done with the Roland-D50 Fantasia preset. The drumbeat is some break chopped evenly for a very punchy and minimal sound.The visuals were done by putting together clips from various places with random images I had on my computer and some of Sony Vegas sickest visual effects. I included clips from a 1970s Schwäbisch Hall ad featuring Bausparfuchs, The Moxy Show and gameplay from the videogame Alley Cat (1984). In fact, David still owns his drum machine and uses it to this day. He says it’s a great way of coming up with new ideas due to its flexibility and programmability (you can pitch bend everything!). It was fall of 1985 and David was taking a visit o Japan to discover its many beauties, which too expanded well into music. During this visit was when he decided to collect many vinyls and cassetes he found to take home. He kept on collecting many treasures wrapped behind eyecatching jackets, some of which were from acts he had already heard of while some were new to him. Yellow Magic Orchestra, Noriko Miyamoto, Toshiki Kadomatsu, Logic System, Akiko Yano, great artists left and right, big and small. But one of the vinyls really called for his attention. The artwork was simply a gray, metallic texture with a couple of graphics on top. I RÉIN FOR RÉIN - Plastic Generation. He had never heard of it, but he couldn't stop staring at the cover.When he finally gave the album a listen, he was confronted with beautiful soundscapes of harsh and cold digital synths, sampled iron pipes, echo-y guitars and melancholic melodies. It sounded to majestic that it compulsed David to write a song about it, which later turned into an album by the following year.On this picture Wojciechowski stands like a badass in front of synths he barely used on this song. He used that stuff behind him on the atonal arpeggio near the end.Victor played guitars in this. David and him have been doing pretty fine since they moved together. It's usually Victor who cooks, but he is slowly teaching his mate how to cook dishes by himself. Silly Expression nobonoko 2024-04-30 | A little music video I threw together in one night.On the past couple of days I've been making a lot of music. Many short and simple songs so I can then have a mini collection of music, and as a way of practicing creating music fast. I came up with a technique where I write down different components for a song, like percussion, chords and bass, giving each one a list of instruments or general themes. This is a way to come up with music faster and with less chance of getting stuck in creative loops by giving myself prompts to build my song around.This song is the result of this experiment. My goal was to have it finished first and foremost. Personally, I think the end result is nice. It's partially inspired by COPTER4016882 in some places.I got the idea of posting it and adding some random visualizer. I got increasingly more ambitious and it became a mini-music video thing. I tried to roughly replicate the look of an LCD screen, similar to Game and Watch. I wanted to pair it with some sort of dancing figure. To mix things up I added random graphics, such as a house, my old logo and a weather panel that I spent more time than I'd like on. I threw everything together in an editing program drawing new graphics along the way and this is the result!If you're interested on the effect, it's a simple thick outlined drawing with a dark shade of gray, set to shade. The drawing is copied in a layer below with lower opacity and a little below the original. If there are multiple drawings, this layer has all of them at once. Then a third copy is made, with a bunch of gaussian blur and with 20% opacity. Then I add some noise. In a nutshell, that's it.I plan on releasing this and other similar songs on a mini-album.Song made on UltraBox.
Nokia Cat [Ultrabox, Abyssbox] nobonoko 2024-04-15 | I apologize for the playback gets out of sync with the music. My machine isn't very powerful anymore and my browser was lagging a lot while recording this.This song uses mostly weird samples for the instruments. Many of them come from the Skype call music, as well as random videos from my video playlist. The snare is sampled from Scurrow slamming a phone from the Festive Fender video with heavy EQ, bitcrush, chorus and a bit of reverb. It was a more difficult sound to craft than I thought it would be. Many of the other instrument sources were McDonald's related, such as some of the square beeps and hi-hat sounds. The square beeps is literally the sound of a McDonald's fry as that is what they're supposed to sound. The hi-hat and noise sweeps are sampled from short clips of people going 'ssss'. It creates an interesting texture you don't usually get from real hats or pure noise. The bright tingly pad sounds are from some roblox video where someone shows an Obama themed map and it plays the Nyan Cat theme in real life. One note was sampled, but towards the end, that tingly sparkly sound is actually the entire Nyan Cat song being played back in a higher pitch. I love coopertom's video This song was made on UltraBox but I ported it to AbyssBox (mod of UltraBox) so I could try out the Frutiger Aero theme by choptop84. Very pretty. I added little icons and a translucent glass on top to look pretty. It is so cool to make translucent glass effects. It is so good. They were really good friends.The photo was taken in 1985 by photographer Jackal H. Golden, depicting a moment where David makes a beast pose. This song was made for a beepbox-made music tournament. Our task was to create a mascot for our team. I came up with Plinky, the Sergal (any pronouns). A triangle wave-themed pink Sergal who loves breakcore, acid, fake chiptune and the Crazy Bus theme.She's was the least popular mascot from all three teams but I still love her.The first round consisted on creating a theme for one of the characters. I made one for Plinky. It's some kind of Chiptune-fusion with a little bit of break beat, acid and, of course, triangle waves.What is Plinky's gender? Odd. Around the 1970's, both musicians had a background of working primarily on production music for television and commercial use under the BLOCKYEEN label.David is a classically trained pianist, keyboardist and electronic music pioneer. His early works often drew inspiration from Latin jazz, blues and easy listening and frequently combined the usage of synthesizers. Victor is a producer and multi instrumentalist from a funk background. Through the 1970's, he mainly worked on scoring themes for TV shows and films. With him also being an electronic music pioneer, his scores would heavily feature the use of synthesizers, with some soundtracks being completely arranged on electronic instruments.As the story goes, David and Victor met in a café in downtown London. David allegedly got a rotten croissant. "I've got a rotten croissant!", exclaimed David. The two then saw moderate success on their carreers and frequently collaborated in music.Gato was the first full album produced by the two musicians. Their goal was achieving a haunting, slightly dark yet serene atmosphere. It was inspired by David's sight of a cat when walking to his studio at night. Such cat was later confirmed to not be a cat, but rather a lambecabra, a smaller, feline-like variant of the chupacabra.
