We couldn't wait to go shopping after lockdown, so we decided to film a shop with us vlog so that you can tag along as we shop the high street.We are so lucky to live near a quaint English market town, full of small businesses who really need our support right now. With non-essential shops having been closed for the majority of the past year, we took the first available opportunity to head to our nearest high street to shop local. On our shopping trip we visited charity shops, gift shops, homeware stores, pet shops, the butchers and the bakery - buying cards, socks, clothes, jewellery, cakes and much more.Some people still feel nervous about taking a local shopping trip, but we felt that everyone was well prepared for covid safe shopping. Sewing Raincoats Pattern Review | Coat Sewing Inspiration | Waterproof Coat Sewing Patterns The Stitch Sisters 2021-03-20 | In this video we share with you our coat sewing inspiration and review our choices of waterproof coat sewing patterns. We both needed to make a practical coat which would be used mainly as a dog walking coat and we both had a few coat making ideas. Due to all the rain we get here in the UK, we also needed to make sure that we sew a waterproof coat.So we looked online at all the coat sewing patterns, especially any practical coat sewing patterns, and decided on two very different projects.Nikki was sure that sewing a raincoat was what she wanted, so she decided on the Lara Sanner Truffle coat. If you are interested in making a waterproof coat, this option is a great choice. She chose to use a bright yellow fabric to create that traditional raincoat anorak look.Rachel knew she wanted to make a quilted coat, so she decided on doing a bomber jacket hack of McCalls 7637. It is not a traditional quilted coat sewing pattern, but there were elements of the pattern that could be adapted so she could sew a quilted coat but still create the oversized cocoon shape she was looking for.If you are looking for practical coat ideas or coat sewing inspo, we hope this video gives you some inspiration. And, if you want more sewing Christmas decoration ideas, remember to subscribe to our channel so you never miss a video!Written Instructions:To make a Christmas Present Cushion for an 18" cushion pad, you will need: - One 17" square for the front of your cushion - Two 12" wide by 17" long rectangles for the back of your cushion - For your bow, you will need several 3" wide strips of a contrast fabric. Two pieces that are 32" long, one piece that is 4" long, and two pieces that are 17" long.Take your 17" long strips and press a small hem on both of the long edges. Do this for both pieces. Do the same on the long edges of the small piece.Grab your cushion front and lay one of the 17" strips down the centre. Pin through the middle of the strip, leaving the edges free for stitching. At your sewing machine, topstitch close to the folded edge on both sides. Lay your second strip in the opposite direction to form a cross. Stitch in place as before. With your smaller piece, simply stitch the hems in place. Once you've hemmed both sides, fold the short edges to meet, with the right side of the fabric on the inside, and stitch using a 1/4" seam allowance. Turn your tube though to the right side, position the seam on the back and the put to one side.For the rest of your bow, take the two 32" long strips and lay them right sides together. Sew both of the long edges with a 1/4" seam allowance. Once stitched, turn your tube through to the right side. It's a small hole so this may take a few minutes. Once it's turned through, use your iron to give it a good press and then topstitch along each side to match your other pieces.To finish the ends of your bow, either sew straight across the short edge and then use pinking shears to neaten. Or create a decorative end by stitching a V-shape and then pinking. To create your bow, fold the two ends of your fabric in half to find the centre. Measure 6" in from the folded end and mark with a line. Sew along this line through all of the layers. Open the ends so that they are going in opposite directions. Then find the fold, and flatten it on top of the seam you have just sewn. Take your small piece and feed it over one end of the bow until it is in the centre. You may need to fold your bow to get it through. Squish the centre together to make it look more like a knot. And then pull the bow loops out on each side. Once you are happy with the shape of your bow, place it in the centre of your cross. Fold the tails of your bow underneath and position them wherever you like them best. Then grab a needle and thread and hand stitch the bow to the centre of the cross. To create the back of the cushion, you will need to hem one side of each piece. On the long edge, turn under a small amount once and then twice, before stitching it in place. Repeat that on just one edge of the second piece. If you are using a directional fabric, make sure that your pattern is the same way up on both sides and that your hems are opposite each other.Take the first back piece and lay it right sides together, so that the right side of the back is on the right side of the cushion, and your hem is facing into the middle. Match the other 3 sides with the front of the cushion. Take your second back piece, and again making sure it is right sides together, lay that over the top. You should have your second hem overlapping the first hem and the sides should all be matched. Now pin that all in place and sew all the way around with a 1/2" seam allowance. Now you are nearly done but, before we turn the cushion through, we need to trim the corners close to but not through the stitches. Now reach inside and open the two layers of your envelope back to reveal the front of your cushion. Turn it all the way through to the right side, poking out your corners. Re-adjust your bow to make sure everything is looking nice and now all it needs is a cushion pad.

We have used white felt but you can use brown or any colour you like for your reindeer.Cut out one reindeer for the front using our template. Cut out another piece of felt for the back which is just slightly larger than the template.You will also need a pair of scissors, a needle and thread, a small piece of twine, a button, stuffing and a sharpie.Take a length of thread, doubled over and knotted and sew the button nose onto the front of the reindeer, choosing your favourite position for his nose. To make the reindeer eyes, we are keeping it super simple and using a sharpie. This is great if you are making these with children. As an alternative, you could use a french knot, some toy eyes, or even just add buttons.Decide where you want your eyes and add them now using your preferred method. Next is the hanger. We are using a small piece of twine but you could also use ribbon. To sew on your hanger, turn your reindeer to the back. Join the ends of the twine and place them on his head between his antlers. Use a couple of hand stitches to secure the hanger in place on the felt.Lay your reindeer front on top of the back, right sides up. To stitch in place, make sure you leave a gap for stuffing the width of your finger at the bottom of the reindeer's face. Stitch him to the back just using a running stitch and a matching thread, following the outline all the way around the antlers and the head.Once stitched, cut the back away from the front following the outline. Stuff him and close his hole.He is all done and so cute. Why not make him some friends and hang them on your Christmas tree?

To make your pudding door stop, you will need the templates provided on our website. Cut yourself 8 pieces of brown felt for the pudding body, 6 pieces of white felt for the icingand 2 pieces of green holly. You will also need 3 red pom-poms, some stuffing and a bag of rice, pennies or sand to weigh your door stop downStart by taking your brown body pieces and divide them into 4 pairs. Using matching thread in your sewing machine, sew one of the long edges of each pair to join them together.Take one sewn pair and open it out. Now place another sewn pair on top of it, right sides together. Make sure your seams are on the outside. Now, making sure your seams are going in the opposite direction, lay them together and sew another single edge.Repeat that for your other two pairs.Now we have two halves of our pudding, we need to put them right sides together. The easiest way to do this is to turn one half with the seams on the inside, and then lay the other half on top. All of the seams should be on the outside.This time you need to sew both edges, making sure that your seams are matched in the middle. Now the body of your pudding is complete. We just need to turn it to the right side. The top is left open to make sure there is lots of room for you to add the stuffing. If you are making a weighted door stop, grab your weight and place it at the bottom of the pudding. Then you can start adding your stuffing. Stuff until you are happy with the shape and fullness of your pudding. Then put to one side, and we’ll start making the top.You’ll need to sew the icing pieces together in the same way, except there are only 6. Divide them into 3 pairs, and then sew one side on each pair. You may also wish to change your thread to white to match.Take two of the pairs and, just like we did before, lay them right sides together and then sew them on one of the long edges.Now, open out your set of 4, and take your final pair and lay it on top. This is designed to curve around the top of the pudding, so they won’t fit when you lay them flat. But if you match one side first and sew it, you’ll then be able to pull the other side over and sew that too.Next you need to add some shape to the lower edge of the icing. This will help it look more like gooey icing dripping down the pudding. Grab some scissors and then cut some curved lines along the bottom edge. Try not to cut too deep as this may expose the stuffing inside. Grab your pudding and place your icing on the top. Check if you have a nice fit. You can always add more stuffing it it needs more shape.Then either use some fabric glue around the edges to secure it in place. Or, grab yourself a needle and thread, and then hand stitch at the base of each seam to anchor it in place.Now your icing is attached and your pudding is very nearly done. It just needs one final touch. Just hand sew or glue on your holly and berries to complete your pudding.
