FL Studio is a DAW - a Digital Audio Workstation. I try to explain the very basics in this video, from downloading the program to exporting your first mp3.

VIDEO SECTIONS:

INTRODUCTION:
0:00 - Intro
0:03 - My Introductory Statements (why am I doing this?)

DOWNLOADING:
1:02 - The FL Studio Website (http://www.image-line.com)
1:29 - First steps for downloading (download the demo!). You need to register an account on the website to download FL Studio.
1:51 - Versions of FL Studio (Fruity, Producer, Signature, All Bundles pack)
2:04 - Download the Registry Key! (to unlock your products)

FL STUDIO DIRECTORY/EXE INFORMATION:
2:52 - FL Studio and where it installs regularly
3:17 - Is there a 64-bit version of FL Studio? (other DAWs, like Ableton, have a 64-bit version)
3:42 - The two different .exe's. Here's a better explanation of what I was trying to say:

"Since FL 10.6, the regular exe is called "fl (compatible memory).exe" and the "extended memory" one is now just "fl.exe".

So the default option is now the extended memory one." - reflex, Image-line site admin.

OPENING THE PROGRAM:
3:58 - FL Studio Opening up (what the hell is this project that opens up)
4:12 - The first thing to do when opening up FL Studio
4:39 - What if FL Studio crashed on the first start-up? Also, where are those template projects stored?
5:03 - Associating .flp projects with FL Studio 11 (if you're upgrading from FL Studio 10 or earlier)

SOME VERY USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW:
5:31 - A useful feature (Closing all windows in FL Studio with F12 or Closing all unfocused windows with Ctrl+F12)
5:58 - ARRANGE windows to a default layout!
6:07 - HOW DO I MOVE THE FL STUDIO WINDOW AROUND?

MAKING THE MUSIC:
6:23 - Loading an instrument
6:49 - Placing notes with the piano roll
7:27 - Song mode
7:43 - The playlist (placing your patterns)

SAVING AND EXPORTING AUDIO:
8:17 - Save your project first!
8:43 - Exporting the mp3
8:51 - Export settings
9:01 - Dithering (earlevel.com/main/1996/10/20/what-is-dither and ethanwiner.com/dither.html)
9:14 - Bit rate (bits per unit time. Audio quality increases with bit rate)

FINDING AND PLAYING THE MP3/CLOSING STATEMENTS:
9:21 - Where did it export?
9:41 - Like, COMMENT, Subscribe please! Suggestions for future videos?

FAQ:

Q: What mic do you use?
A: I used a Blue Snowball microphone. There are better options out there (look up Shure), but this'll suffice. I then put the mic recording through a few processes to enhance the sound. The audio from FL Studio in the video (like the piano) is unprocessed.

Q: I want you to do a tutorial on *insert topic here*!
A: Leave a comment about what you want to see, and I may try to get to making a video about it. However, if there's any prior knowledge necessary, I'll be sure to cover other topics leading up to the desired one.

Q: How do I make Dubstep?
A: There's a lot to be done before diving into the genre of Dubstep. At the moment, I'm just trying to cover the very basics to get people started. The most basic "wub" sounds may be in a video in the near future if that's what people really want, based on the suggestions I receive.

Q: You didn't explain that part correctly!
A: Just leave a comment about it and, depending on the circumstance, I'll either correct myself with an annotation or reply to your comment with an explanation.

Q: Will you be covering other DAWs and plugins not part of FL Studio?
A: Eventually? Probably. I'm gonna try to create stuff with merely the tools that FL Studio and Image Line provide. If I do ever get in to explanations with Dubstep, I will probably rely on other plugins such as NI Massive.

Q: Where are the ponies?
A: I'm gonna try to keep these videos completely focused on the tutorials and teaching so that the information is clear. Later on, I may use audio samples of ponies.

Q: When are you gonna make your next song? When are you gonna sing again?
A: Not sure. Over the summer, I'll definitely have more time to make another vocal song. Release dates are completely unknown at this point, however.

Q: Where are other places that I can listen to your music?
A:
soundcloud.com/cypony
cypony.bandcamp.com

Q: When will you record more piano?
A: I'll be playing the keyboard for a Jazz band over the summer, so I'll definitely record a few piano tracks. Covers, and perhaps original songs, may be recorded.

Q: Will you ever do a "CyPony responds to comments" video? I want my voice to be heard!
A: Maybe, with enough comments.
