I highly, highly recommend reading this book. Don't be intimidated by the start: it's a rich and rewarding experience that is greater than the sum of its parts. A true gem that probably should have been nominated for the Booker Prize.

I don't consider anything in this review a spoiler, so I’ve marked it ‘spoiler-free’. But I'm not sure of people's tolerance for plot summaries so please tread carefully!
