The Dark Side was written around 8 years ago. This song is about my best friend’s older brother who struggled with addiction for the majority of his life and the story does not end how it was supposed to end. He dabbled in all types of substances but his main poison of choice was heroin. This is a f%cking tragic story of a beautiful person who was tortured by his addiction. I have never in my life seen someone fight so hard to be sober. I’m not sure the exact number but I’m pretty sure this guy self volunteered himself into some type of rehab program at least 10 times. He genuinely wanted to be sober. And you know what… After years and years of trying over and over… He f%cking did it!!! He got sober!!! There wasn’t anyone on the planet that I was rooting for more than him to get sober! Seeing him “Alive” again made me so stoked!! He was black and white. When he was using he was in a pit of hell. When he was sober, he was the absolute coolest most genuine loving HAPPY person you could ever meet. Micha made it one year without using… All of us around him could see it. He had changed. He was doing it. He was really fucking doing it. He was sober and his light was shining bright as the sun itself. I have 3 sisters. Micha was the closest thing I ever had to a big brother. He was older and bigger than me when I was little, and he would pick on me. But as time went on I grew and we were very much alike so we had our fair share of fist fights and arguments but that’s the point. No matter how many times shit got wild I always loved his crazy ass, and trust me he was a wild one. But as wild as his wild side was. His genuine loving heart shined through just as much. He was the guy you call when some serious shit was going down and you need someone to back you up. He’s gonna hop in the truck and be ready to brawl no questions asked. He was as loyal as they come. For the last year Micha had been sober. Truly sober. He was living his best life. He met a girl, they fell in love. She got pregnant with a baby boy. “Micha Jr.” who is now here with us 1 month after my brother Micha’s passing. He was so excited for his new life and couldn’t wait to be a father! And he would’ve been a damn good one! Unfortunately this is where the story ends. 😭 Micha’s battle with substance abuse took his life. 1 year sober. He had a rough night and decided he needed to ease his pain as has done so many times before. Unfortunately this would be his last. This was not supposed to happen. He was not supposed to die. He wanted to live. He was a good person with a bad drug addiction. This is honestly the most tragic loss I have experienced to this type of thing. I have lost other friends to drugs but Micha, he was my f%cking brother! I had so many many conversations about sobriety with him and I love him deeply. So this pains me in a different kinda way. I wanted to share his story because I think it’s important we make sure to do everything in our power to be there for the people in our lives who struggle with addiction. Their life can be over in an instant. One moment they are here and the next they are gone.
People who struggle with addiction can be assholes, they can be mean and they try their best to push “Help” away. We cannot give up on those people. Because behind all that anger and pain and hurt is a beautiful person that is struggling to feel okay within themselves. There is a soul that is crying out for help. We cannot let them sit there and suffer alone. We must reach out with an open hand and help them out of the fire.

LYRICS: All your cards laid face down on the table Let’s just see who has the last laugh now Go ahead live your lies tell your fables You ain’t nothing like a fairytale
Oh say goodbye to the old times when I hung my head down low Since you can’t catch me in your labyrinth well, I’ll watch you fold
You’re sinkin’ in muddy water Cold shoulder to drown the light You’re soakin’ in murky waters Careful where your looking what you seek you will find
Oh so sick you had me caught in your delusion I was rotting from the inside out Nevertheless I have come to the conclusion If you don’t know your lost then you’ll never be found
Say goodbye to the old times when I hung my head down low Since you can’t catch me in your labyrinth well, I’ll watch you fold
You’re sinkin’ in muddy water Cold shoulder to drown the light You’re soakin’ in murky waters Careful where your looking what you seek you will find
Ain’t got no time to waste on you Ain’t got no time to waste on you
You’re sinkin’ in muddy water Cold shoulder to drown the light You’re soakin’ in murky waters Careful where your looking what you seek you will find

LYRICS: I won’t lie I’ve made a lot A lot of mistakes I’ve been hidin’ in the shadows it’s all I could take
I was cold and I was restless when the walls caved in See birds don’t fly they ride the wind
Oh my darlin don’t you see Ain’t nothin in the world means more to me Oh my honey don't you know Wherever you are is where I call home
I was hanging by a thread when you caught my fall Scraped my body from the pavement and held me tall
I was cold and I was restless when the walls caved in See birds don’t fly they ride the wind
Oh my darlin don’t you see Ain’t nothin in the world means more to me Oh my honey don't you know Wherever you are is where I call home
Won’t you forgive me I’ve been goin kinda crazy I got all these fuckin' thoughts inside my head and I cant shake em well Please forgive me I’ve been goin kinda crazy I got all these fuckin' thoughts inside my head and I can’t shake em well
I was cold and I was restless when the walls caved in See birds don’t fly they ride the wind

LYRICS: Making my way to the coast to a place I’ve never known Runnin from the baggage that I’ve carried all along Grippin my fist to the sky should I live or should I die Actin like a savage didn’t do me any right Well I can’t find the strength you see these ups and downs are a part of me
Well the sun don’t shine everyday There’s fire in the sky open your mind look the other way Well it ain’t so bright each and everyday At the end of the line look at your life there’s another way
All this malice took a toll it’s a never ending hole Reaching for the surface I can’t do this all alone Well I can’t find the strength you see these ups and downs are a part of me
Well the sun don’t shine everyday There’s fire in the sky open your mind look the other way Well it ain’t so bright each and everyday At the end of the line look at your life there’s another way

LYRICS: Oh,. I’ve been losing sleep I can't make sense of this And I can’t bare the thought he left me here Oh I’ve been thinking of all the things he taught me when he was near Took time he showed me where to walk and what to fear
Oh, He was a good man Oh, He was a good man Won't someone tell me how to fill this void I’m stuck in his empty space He told tales of a better place
Wipe my walls their filled with sin You always caught me in a tale spin All your wisdom in the ground
I can feel his spirit blowing in the wind It’s the only thing I have right now Hope someday soon i'll learn to toughen up my chin So maybe I can cope with this somehow
Oh, He was a good man Oh, he was a good man Won't someone tell me how to fill this void I’m stuck in his empty space He told tales of a better place
Wipe my walls their filled with sin You always caught me in a tale spin All your wisdom in the ground
I lost a part of me, your body withering Well I hope I made you proud You set your spirit free won't you come back for me I feel your guidance from the clouds
Wipe my walls their filled with sin You always caught me in a tale spin All your wisdom in the ground

LYRICS: So take me to the farthest valley lead me somewhere I belong So Take me to the tallest mountain lead me somewhere I’ll be strong
And if I fall here don’t come runnin Sometimes you have to lose it all
I was tied to a hospital bed Wonderin if I passed would you even miss me I won’t lie to a broken life I’ve been taken by the darkness that surrounds me oh it surrounds me
So take me across the ocean Lead me far as I see
Well if I fall here don’t come runnin Sometimes you have to lose it all
I was tied to a hospital bed Wonderin if I passed would you even miss me I won’t lie to a broken life I’ve been taken by the darkness that surrounds me oh it surrounds me

LYRICS: Well I met a man in Kansas City, his face was worn, language gritty He sold his crack and he spoke of the men he murdered. Twenty seven years old he was sworn to the bloods His brother was a Crip, got killed in cold blood His body lay in the back of a piss stained alley Oh oh The scars he wore was proof of the time he was shot in the slum His own mother’s gun, she was high on pills and drunk as fuck on whiskey Well he stumbled away with a bullet in his leg adrenaline pumpin, didn’t feel a thing Oh oh
Oh Kansas City Ohh don’t fuck with me
Limitless created fire and a black abyss Don’t you ever wonder how society has come to this Wait hold up, hit the blunt twice Take a step back remove the fucking blindfold from your eyes A preconceived illusion of a soon to come apocalypse it’s monotonous Ain’t nobody stopping it Well I refuse to be a puppet on a string isn’t this supposed to be the land of the free
Well it was 100 foot tree coming from a seed that we could plant in everyone’s mind It’s a spiderweb effect from here So tell me are we livin’ just to die my dear Cause we’ve been treading water for a while and now it’s time to sink or swim We got the choice to make it what we want and what it’s always been Why’s it always harder when the rain comes down
Well the sunshine it meets my eye as we walk along this abandon island And these dollar bills keep it in a hole in my pocket And I don’t mean to lose my way but it’s easier said than done they say The hardest part is facing our self destruction Oh the hardest part is facing my self-destruction
Oh Kansas City Ohh don’t fuck with me Oh Kansas City Ohh don’t fuck with me

LYRICS: Trouble by the silence of the thoughts that I keep Well my hands are tired and my knees are weak In a world so cruel fought to turn my cheek but my mind is gone and my heart it weeps
I had a long harsh cry and I swore that I’d get better On a lonely drive I found myself in the desert Oh how my life’s been weathered Now I’m torn not tethered
Take me away so I can find myself I’m sick of this evil but I’m caught where it dwells I’ve been at war with my ego, I’m just so sick of all these people Oh so sick of all these people
Tortured by the solace of the words I can’t speak Like a cancer I cannot defeat Well you took your time with words so bleak Now I’ll turn the page, it’s life I seek
I had a long harsh cry and I swore that I’d get better On a lonely drive I found myself in the desert Oh how my life’s been weathered Now I’m torn not tethered
Take me away so I can find myself Well I’m sick of this evil but I’m caught where it dwells I’ve been at war with my ego, I’m just so sick of all these people Oh so sick of all these people
