In this tutorial video Maxx shows us how to make Hardtack (aka Brewis, pilot bread, sheet iron, ship's biscuit or worm castles) which is a simple ancient type of biscuit or cracker.

It has many names because it has existed for so long, and in so many different areas of the world. After you make this simple food for your larp, make up a catchy name for it like Iron Bread or Golem Skin, or just use one of the existing names.

This food is suitable for all genres of larp, and historical reenactment including civil war reenactment. The type of flour will vary, but the process is the same, so everyone can use this simple, cheap survival food for immersion at their events.

Here is what you'll need:

3 Cups (375g) All Purpose Flour
1 Cup (240ml)Water
1 Teaspoon (5g) Salt

And from there it's quite simple, mix small amounts of water with the flour until just reaches a workable consistency. You can adjust amounts to make what you need. If you want salt, add it in. Then roll it out to approx. 3/8 inch (.95 cm) thick. Trim edges to form a square and slice into smaller sqaures. Use a fork to push holes in the dough to prevent rising. Cook in an oven at 375F (190C or Setting 5) for 30 minutes, flip it over and cook for an additional 30 minutes.

There are as many recipes for this food as there are names, so feel free to experiment for your needs/game and make it a common immersive item for you.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and you watched me make it with a knife and a screwdriver, so I'm sure anyone can pull this together, even on site during a game.

If you use this recipe, let me know how it works for you and if you made any adjustments to shape, size, spices, in the comments below.
