Do I need all this Gear? 100 Things I Do 2023-06-06 | Ok, again the title is a little clicky.. sorry about that.. and sorry if you thought there was going to be a fire sale of cheap Fairlights over at Studio Mike :DI had a question in the comments the other week which was basically "How can you ever learn to get the most from that gear when you have so much". The answer is I have built the studio over many many years and spend a huge amount of time with most instruments up front when they first come into the studio. All of this gave me the idea... lets see what I can do if I turned all the synths off and tried to use a simple sign wave on the Mac. I hope you found this an interesting experiment and the clicky nature of the thumbnail did not let you down. Synclavier Q&A and Patch Creation 100 Things I Do 2023-05-16 | The Syncalvier clips are some of the most popular on the channel. As I started making these quite a few years ago I feel its good to revisit and try and improve on the information and production quality. I think the main camera which I used for the 'talking head' shots is starting to show its age and might be due for replacement soon. AKAI MPC 60 - Its all about Swing! 100 Things I Do 2022-04-03 | A quick video this week looking at the original 2.12 AKAI firmware for the MPC 60 with a focus on Roger Linns Swing which it was famed for. I remember looking at the MPC60 with awe when it was released but also not understanding what it actually did. MPC 2500 - Quick Restore 100 Things I Do 2022-03-21 | Normally when I do restorations I try and get the instrument as close as possible to mint. There is nothing nicer than it looking pretty much factory fresh in the studio. I thought with this sligthtly tired 2500 I would go another route. Fix it up so its not a eye sore but not make it perfect, just get it to a point to enjoy and use it and see how things go from there. Intended to replace the MiniMoog Model D when it was released, Moog music made some interesting decisions of what to add and what to leave out. The very early days of Digital being added to Analog Synths leaves some amazing yet questionable features :D

The Lost Floppies - Ensoniq EPS Samples lost for 20 years 100 Things I Do 2021-02-07 | I have been sorting out some old boxes for the last few days and in between that and working on some Mastering jobs for people I found some Ensoniq format floppies I have not used in 20 years since I sold my original EPS! I thought I would record and share my first time loading up these disc's and we could see whats on them and what sounds I was using and creating in the year 2000! Quantum Noodling - Quick patch creation fun! 100 Things I Do 2020-12-19 | One of the great things about the Quantum is the speed at which you can create sounds. I thought I would share a quick Noodle that starts from the blank INIT patch and ends up in a beautiful Solina style patch. The fun in patch creation is all about the Journey and exploration, I hope to kick off a series of Videos early next year called "Throw out the Preset". I get a huge amount of comments asking for me to sell patches and sounds but I would prefer I inspired you to make your own :D

Interesting and Unique - OB-Mx 100 Things I Do 2020-10-26 | I thought we would take a further look at the OB-Mx today. As I mention in the video when this synth was released the reviews on the whole were so bad I almost never bothered to play one. The OB-Mx is a very unique sounding synth and with its unusual feature set (at least at the time) makes for an amazing box of ambient exploration :D My first video for a while, I've switched things up a bit moving to Davinci Resolve (thanks to the person that suggested this a few years ago) and changing the cameras around and general structure of the content. A long way to go to make things smooth but the foundation should be more solid and allow more improvements than I could get from iMovie.Mike
