HIllsboro Oregon 3/27/2023 Racial - Homophobic Slurs Dirk Knudsen 2023-03-28 | Someone, seems to be young men, went by our home, yelled racial and homophobic slurs, and threw something at our house. This follows ove 1000 firecrackers being thrown at our home two weeks ago off camera. If anyone knows this car, who these horrible humans are, or anything about this, I will pay a finders fee for their information to turn over to authorities for a Hate Crime. Hillsboro Pharmacy In Hillsboro Oregon Video History Lesson Dirk Knudsen 2023-01-18 | Dirk Knudsen, the roving Historian, takes on the Hillsboro Pharmacy in March of 2020 during the COVID 19 Pandemic to document the place and the times. Hillsboro, Oregon is home to the Hillsboro Pharmacy which was founded by pioneer hero Doctor F.A. Bailey in 1873. That is Francis Alonzo Bailey more formally. The Pharmacy moved over the decades but remains a force in the community as a central hub and is trying to come back from the Weils Fire of 2022 which damaged the Pharmacy building. Thanks to Mr Bob Herb for being a great owner and steward of the building and for his hard work to repair the building and make sure the Pharmacy can return!

Fire Takes Down Historic Weils Buildings In Hillsboro, Oregon on January 2nd, 2022 Dirk Knudsen 2022-01-02 | Here is some footage from mid-morning on Main Street in Hillsboro, Oregon after fire broke out about 3:45 AM on Jan 2nd, 2022. No human life was lost, the building is lost. It was built over 100 years ago and has been one of the Mainstays of the historic downtown Hillsboro skyline. Businesses Lucia Isabell Collection (dress and gown shop) and Weichert Realty are among the businesses lost. Fire crews from Hillsboro, Cornelius, Banks, and Forest Grove, Oregon joined forces to put out the blaze which burned most of the day. The block on Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues will be closed for a while so the damage and soundness of the building can be evaluated. Hillsboro's historic Venetian Theater and Hillsboro Pharmacy, beloved icons, have survived this fire. The roof and mid-story floors collapsed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A spirited group of citizens turned out to have their testimony and ideas heard. The meeting was continued for at least one additional hearing. There are many layers to this particular matter and this decision will affect a lot of people.
How to Say the word Atfalati by linguist Henry Zenk Dirk Knudsen 2020-10-08 | With the recent announcement that the Hillsboro School District, with the support of the Grand Ronde Tribe, has named their newest elementary school Atfalati Ridge (the native People of the Tualatin Valley) we want to make sure everyone knows how to say their name! The tribe is unknown to most modern-day citizens of the Tualatin Valley yet their time here existed for tens of thousands of years until the late 1800's and 1900's. Here is a highly respected tribal linguist and teacher of Chinook Wawa, PhD Henry Zenk, properly saying the name and the various versions of the name. Henry Zenk has contributed to several books and manuscripts and has a listing at Oregon State University- all credit is given to Mr Zenk for this Video and its contents were authored by him.

Happy Memorial Day 2020 from Hillsboro, Oregon where the Wells & Nevling Men Are Remembered Dirk Knudsen 2020-05-26 | See a few minutes of Hillsboro History where I talk about June Wells Nevling, her Grandmother's connection to the Revolutionary War (Note I was wrong in the Video- here great-great Grandfather was a Captain in the Revolution). I also speak about the Wells boys, several of whom fought in wars, young June, and her meeting with Captain Gilbert Nevling of Pennsylvania. Later he became a Lieutenant Colonel. I researched the information some more and he was not in WW1 as he was a child during the Great War; bad info had been given to me. He was, however, a pilot in WWII and pilot and navigator in the Korean War where his Bomber unit accomplished 10,000 sorties! Gil as he was known, died in an P-80 Jet while flying from Langley AFB as a test pilot- he was a very trusted and accomplished pilot and he is credited with making evasive maneuvers to keep the jet form hitting people and houses and inflicting death! Gilbert is in Arlington National Cemetary and will be remembered!
