Denver is saying “I do” ... 42 times in a row, to be exact.
The Clerk and Recorder’s Office hosted its annual Marriage Marathon Friday the 13th, welcoming couples who lack superstition but are abundant with love and optimism. This year’s theme was “Fearlessly in Love,” playing on the Friday the 13th fear factor, but Denver’s Clerk and Recorder Paul López believes the day is a positive omen.
“Thirteen is a lucky number, so today is a lucky day,” López said. “To be a part of all these couples’ special day, to hear them say their vows, it is really cool. Probably the coolest part of my job.”
López, who married more than 100 couples at last year’s marriage marathon, said the most impactful part of the day is watching couples break down in front of each other.
“They come in all tough and think because it’s the clerk’s office they’re not going to cry,” López said. “But they do.”
